Police being laughed at by grateful media, Jinky medal comes onto the market

973

Strathclyde Police seem unprepared to decommission the loose cannon that is providing the regular leaks of largely inaccurate information about Celtic fans to the press.  The country’s largest police force have become a regular source of material and hilarity for our media, perhaps best illustrated by their unattributed comment to the Scotland on Sunday, suggesting they plan to “smash the Irish Republican, Marxist, Green Brigade”.

While the police officially claim “these comments do not reflect the view of the Force” the damage is already done.  The stage is set for an inevitable confrontation by a group of supporters who now believe they are being unfairly picked upon (for being Marxist, good grief, I thought they all shaved and suited-up under Tony, including the men!), and a police force, which employs someone who has told the press they are picking on the Green Brigade and which is asked by the Government to challenge pro-IRA chanting.

All political chanting must stop, of course, but I don’t fancy being an officer on the ground who has to pick up the pieces after a very loose tongue has set a scene for confrontation.

Make no mistake, the police are being laughed at by grateful recipients of their media comments, who cannot believe the utter naivety of the Pitt St operation, I have heard this laughter first hand from more than one journo, but the consequences of such dire behaviour will be severe.

I would like to thank everyone who bid on the ebay auction for the Jimmy Johnstone medal. I’m really pleased to let you know that the medal has been withdrawn from sale. Thanks again and sorry if you had already bid.

We are not short of history at Celtic, but there are very few occasions a unique memento of the Greatest Ever Celt becomes available.  The medal is a 47-year-old slice of Celtic folklore, check it out on ebay.

    BTRH.

Good thinking and you can count me in.

This idea has to taken on board by the club in some form. As you say, we live in the world of e-commerce and CFC would be missing out big time if it didnt tap into its captive global market. I think its fair to say we have a fan base (inc diaspora) which is top ten in the world.

I say move with the times Celtic and grasp the opportunity.

    ‘Ernie Lynch,

I just caught your quick reply to me on the last thread about the away support singing the black watch. I myself have never heard of it so therefore never sung it but it affects my position zero. Like I stated,,and its just my humble opinion,,I myself want nothing to do with anything british.’

The reality is that we play in a British league. We always have.

I feel we’d be better treated in the EPL than in the SPL.

Certainly my experience is that we get a better reception at most English grounds than we do at Scottish ones.

And for some reason English fans didn’t seem to have a Pavlovian hatred for Neil Lennon like Scottish fans do.

As I don,t read the chip wrappers (other than the Grauniad) I didn’t see that article.

I’m not sure that confirms that Henrik recommended Bangura however I accept hat he has made positive noises although you would hardly expect him to say the lad is pish.

I try and avoid hunguffery but I cannot avoid what I have seen of Bangura from my seat in the stand and it hasn’t looked pretty.

Hopefully he will come good but he signs to date are not promising.

Below is an extract from Wikipedia setting out the alleged extent of the Celtic fan base as at 2003 and below is the link to the Scotsman article which supposedly sets out the 9 Million figure although I can’t see how or where it justifies such a comment.

The number actually doesn’t matter although obviously the greater number of fans the bigger the sum of money generated. Do the maths at say 300,000 or 500,000 or whatever.

In 2003 Celtic were estimated to have a fan base of nine million people, including one million in the USA and Canada.[8] There are over 160 Celtic Supporters Clubs in over 20 countries around the world.[48] In 2009 marketing agency, Sports Revolution estimated that there were 7 million Celtic fans in Japan, mainly due to the influence of Shunsuke Nakamura.[49]

I’ve just come across your post and I really can’t let this travesty go without comment.

I’m afraid you’re way off the mark when you say that Britain and George Osborne were the only ones to stand up for Ireland. You’ve gone too far in trying to portray George Osborne as the saviour of Ireland in your overt attempt to demonise Europe.

You may not be aware but Osborne is the heir to the Osborne baronetcy in Co. Tipperary who where the protestant ascendancy that ruled Tipperary/Waterford, so don’t give me any of your nonsense about him being a saviour of Ireland.

For every £ 1 he lent Ireland in its hour of need he was asking for £1.20 back, his English banks were up to their necks ($150bn) in the Irish banking crisis and he was looking after his banker friends interest and as Ireland is a major importer of UK he knew the money he lend Ireland would be used to buy UK product.

No, as I said earlier Osborne was no more a friend of Ireland than the IMF, the EMF or any banking mechanism that was forced on the Irish.

If you’re looking for the culprits then along with the bankers you can include the corrupt politicians and political system that festers in Ireland.

I posted the below on CQN March 30th 2010 and mentioned what you now mention.

It only elicited attacks for posting PL’s salary

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I already have $10k worth of shares at Celtic ( well me and my “conglomerate” do). I am not buying anymore till these Judases are gone!

    9 million..here…

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celtic_F.C.

even the credit card business knows the enormity of the global Glasgow Celtic fan base.

The criteria for board membership should be

    1. ARE YOU A CELTIC FAN ?

    2. ARE YOU WILLING TO TAKE A FIXED SALARY AND ONLY BENEFIT IF CELTIC BENEFITS? Yes or No?

As much as I could gleam quickly from 2 annual reports (2005+2008) Peter Lawwell’s

total Salary + Bonus in the years since joining Celtic “plc” excluding shares are as follows (in pounds):

    2004 165,961

    2005 298,961

    2007 393,236

    2008 550,120

    2009 738,987

2009 is I bet much more (couldn’t find it) and 2010 is probably greater still.

and he’s is just one of them.

  14. Why do people phone Snyde? They are sectarian scum.

Just now a gentleman, in a very mannerly way, tried to explain the difference between Celtic supporters “illicit chanting” and Hunnish sectarianism only to be cut off after Keevins stating that they are both the same.

That weasle should not be allowed into Paradise.

The club should act in our defence as it is an ORCherstrated ploy by Snyde to portray us in as poor a light a possible.

    Right on all counts.

Celtic’s unique selling point in a world bereft of ethics is the Celtic ethos which is based on charity/love which we are assured never fails.

This point based on belonging to that ethos has been put to those dealing with the Membership Scheme and it will be put again and again until it permeates everything the scheme will be about, well it wil as long as I stay indefatigable.

There is so much scope so much potential, all that is needed is courage and encouragement.

    Keevins at his worst tonight.

He is more anti- Celtic than Jackson, waddell or traynor. And all to keep his job.

I’ve dumped snyde for good now.

I wish the club would do the same to keevins. He’s trouble and is also part of the press posse who kick started the demonisation of Neil Lennon. And that could have ended in tragedy.

    Shameless spineless irresponsible gutter media.
