Police being laughed at by grateful media, Jinky medal comes onto the market

973

Strathclyde Police seem unprepared to decommission the loose cannon that is providing the regular leaks of largely inaccurate information about Celtic fans to the press.  The country’s largest police force have become a regular source of material and hilarity for our media, perhaps best illustrated by their unattributed comment to the Scotland on Sunday, suggesting they plan to “smash the Irish Republican, Marxist, Green Brigade”.

While the police officially claim “these comments do not reflect the view of the Force” the damage is already done.  The stage is set for an inevitable confrontation by a group of supporters who now believe they are being unfairly picked upon (for being Marxist, good grief, I thought they all shaved and suited-up under Tony, including the men!), and a police force, which employs someone who has told the press they are picking on the Green Brigade and which is asked by the Government to challenge pro-IRA chanting.

All political chanting must stop, of course, but I don’t fancy being an officer on the ground who has to pick up the pieces after a very loose tongue has set a scene for confrontation.

Make no mistake, the police are being laughed at by grateful recipients of their media comments, who cannot believe the utter naivety of the Pitt St operation, I have heard this laughter first hand from more than one journo, but the consequences of such dire behaviour will be severe.

I would like to thank everyone who bid on the ebay auction for the Jimmy Johnstone medal. I’m really pleased to let you know that the medal has been withdrawn from sale. Thanks again and sorry if you had already bid.

We are not short of history at Celtic, but there are very few occasions a unique memento of the Greatest Ever Celt becomes available.  The medal is a 47-year-old slice of Celtic folklore, check it out on ebay.

    There is no doubt that Wayne Rooney had a real bad spell at the beginning of last season before the S. African World Cup.

    He has come back to good form since the WC though. I was watching a lot of the man U game tonight and I still saw an enthusiastic competitive player who was chasing back to midfield to get the ball in the final minutes.

    Wayne Rooney will do for me as a footballer. I’d play him as a no. 10 or, in the modern parlance, “in the hole”, as he is best coming on to the ball rather than with back to goal.

    Nearly collapsed reading that post about Sammy Kilpatrick. This discussion about Sammy has been held here in the past.

    The current intimidation of the GB members by Strathclyde Police, funded by our tax payments (you listening Canamalar?!), is very sinister indeed. We only have to look at the treatment handed out to that 17 year-old lad who was eventually freed due to the intervention of the Lord Advocate.

    Our MPs and MSPs need to be asking serious questions about the motivation and costs involved with this police campaign.

    If the Europa League could get a financial shot in the arm – this might just be the season for UEFA.

    Should the 2 Manchester teams avoid one another and meet in the final – what a massive PR injection – and possible subsequent cash injection by UEFA.

    Let’s face it – our European participation is more likely to be in this tournament for some years to come. With decent fianancial injection by UEFA (and sponsors) – it could be a lucrative market where we could have a more than reasonable chance of competing (at our level) after Christmas.

    And again I agree that I shouldn’t have posted what I posted, but if someone is prepared to take what I say out of context, they should be prepared for any reply they get.

    I live in a very different world, a world where racisism is quite bad toward Africans and Roma gypsies, these people make up more of my friends here than white people, they do not have the agenda of the white folks, they are hard working, they are honest, they will help you without seeking any reward, they are friends, the white folk here are parasites, they only want for themselfs, am I being racist by saying they are white scum ?

    Just like the songs debate, this will never be resolved, but I know there is not a racist bone in my body that sees the colour of a persons skin a problem, unless they are white, so if that makes me racist, so be it.

    Hail Mary Pass!

    Believe the term comes from American football – where the 1/4 back (3rd and down – as the clock had run-down) launched a pass from deep in his own half to a forward who scored a last minute winning touch-down.

    The term ‘Hail Mary Pass’ may have been attributed to a Notre Dame (Fighting Irish) player by an American Radio Commentator (can’t remember his name).

    Sure Wiki or the USA NFL can elaborate!

    I was reading the stories last night about the old days in your part of the world, and remember Peter Watters telling me all about Sammy, and at times he had us weeing ourselfs, amazing stuff.

    My point was that back in them days calling Sammy what he was called wasn’t racist.

    As I have said, I would be anti white folks way before I would have a problem with anyone who has darker skin than I have.

    Pete isn’t keeping as well these days, he had a mini stroke a few months back, and had bowel problems, but he will be in the bar having his few pints as we speak.

    He was over in Dumbarton a few weeks back, he took in the Udinese game, and he loved it, nearly had a major stroke when they were awarded a pen at the end mind you.

  22. Good Evening one and all.

    Have been watching from afar over this whole persecution of the green brigade. What is clear is that the GB through no fault of their own have been made out to be a lightning rod, or whipping boy, for Police and politicians looking to cash in.

    Not that they are likely to listen to me, but if they were, i’d urge them to keep doing everything they’re doing but dont leave them with ammunition to hit you with. The PIRA is a no no in our society and rightly so. They are indefensible in my view. But pro PIRA chants are the last branch the establishment are clinging too to equalise years of intolerance from the terraces to Hampden to Holyrood.

    The GB are extremely adept at public displays. How about, as 2011 draws to a close, highlighting that in the year when

    – multiple instances of bullets and bombs to celtic employees and supporters;

    – when the world witnesses an assault which an edinburgh jury cant prove;

    – UEFA charge Rangers FC with ‘sectarian and racist behaviour’

    – Neil Lennon alone is the sole offender for the game of shame(handling refs and inciting behaviour inclusive)

    – the grave a Celtic hero, 80 years dead, is vandalised in blue paint;

    – prominent civil servants laud the atmosphere at the LC final, no pope of rome and famine song booming from the ‘home’ end

    – dubious quotes and alleged beliefs attached to the justice chair Christine Graham

    – arrest and conviction records over sectarian offences dissapear??????

    that the conclusion drawn by Scotland’s lawmakers that Celtic FC and its supporters are the problem.

    As was once famously said, ‘im not going to give them hell, i’ll give them the truth and theyre going to think its hell’.

  30. The Exiled Tim

    Why? We’ll get to that later.

    You enjoy the company of your friends and they enjoy your company – sounds good to me.

    Anyone from Glasgow, or the vicinity, has grown up with wind-up humour and is more intent on a quick and witty reply than taking offence where none was meant, or even perceived.

    That someone outwith your circle “chooses” to take offence at something which has nothing to do with them because of misguided political correctness or even unpleasent previous personal experience, totally unrelated to you and your friends, leads me back to WHY?

    Why do you bother?

    Whether I, or anyone else, agrees or disagrees with how you and your mates interact is immaterial.

    I have used the same sort of patter with friends and colleagues from England, Ireland, U.S.A., Belgium, Holland and Poland, amongst others. The result was always the same. Good friends laughed together – but they were quick to hit back with the usual stereotype Scots comments. No harm done, no offence taken – because we were all just ordinary people enjoying each other’s company.

    Had a friend (and colleague) pulled up at a meeting in California a few years ago. To answer a question he deferred to his colleague from London office with the words “Bimbo can explain better than I can”.

    He was hauled outside (this was not a junior person) and told he must not call a female colleague Bimbo.

    His defence? Go in and ask her to present herself. She had decided years ago that Brits couldn’t pronounce her name properly and had shortened it to something easy for everyone. Her choice!

    Certain there are many more on here who can confirm similar experiences.

    When you offend someone you should apologise (unless you meant to).

    If someone with an agenda chooses to take offence, despite the issue having nothing to do with them, I can only repeat – why bother?

    Cheers

    Alex
