Police being laughed at by grateful media, Jinky medal comes onto the market

973

Strathclyde Police seem unprepared to decommission the loose cannon that is providing the regular leaks of largely inaccurate information about Celtic fans to the press.  The country’s largest police force have become a regular source of material and hilarity for our media, perhaps best illustrated by their unattributed comment to the Scotland on Sunday, suggesting they plan to “smash the Irish Republican, Marxist, Green Brigade”.

While the police officially claim “these comments do not reflect the view of the Force” the damage is already done.  The stage is set for an inevitable confrontation by a group of supporters who now believe they are being unfairly picked upon (for being Marxist, good grief, I thought they all shaved and suited-up under Tony, including the men!), and a police force, which employs someone who has told the press they are picking on the Green Brigade and which is asked by the Government to challenge pro-IRA chanting.

All political chanting must stop, of course, but I don’t fancy being an officer on the ground who has to pick up the pieces after a very loose tongue has set a scene for confrontation.

Make no mistake, the police are being laughed at by grateful recipients of their media comments, who cannot believe the utter naivety of the Pitt St operation, I have heard this laughter first hand from more than one journo, but the consequences of such dire behaviour will be severe.

I would like to thank everyone who bid on the ebay auction for the Jimmy Johnstone medal. I’m really pleased to let you know that the medal has been withdrawn from sale. Thanks again and sorry if you had already bid.

We are not short of history at Celtic, but there are very few occasions a unique memento of the Greatest Ever Celt becomes available.  The medal is a 47-year-old slice of Celtic folklore, check it out on ebay.

Thank you for that, ( made me look it up ) hope you are still into your music (⊙_⊙)

A Hail Mary pass or Hail Mary route in American football refers to any very long forward pass made in desperation with only a small chance of success, especially at or near the end of a half.

Although the expression had been used before, it was made famous when it was used to describe the game-winning touchdown pass by Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach to Drew Pearson in a December 28, 1975, NFL playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings. Afterwards, it was reported that Staubach (a Roman Catholic) said, “I closed my eyes and said a Hail Mary.” [1] An early print appearance of the term was an Associated Press story about the upcoming 1941 Orange Bowl, appearing in several newspapers (the 31 December 1940 Daytona Beach Morning Journal, for one: “Orange Bowl: [Georgetown] Hoyas Put Faith in “Hail Mary” Pass”). As the article explained, “A ‘hail Mary’ pass, in the talk of the Washington eleven, is one that is thrown with a prayer because the odds against completion are big.”

I didnt call you a racist but you are ignorant in respect of the language of racism. The FACT is that the VAST MAJORITY of BLACK PEOPLE regard the use of the terms ‘darkie’ and ‘nigger’ as offensive when used by white people because of the history of negative connotations those words have. ‘Nigger’ in particular is widely known as an insulting term to demean black people when used by white people and you will be called a racist if you use it to describe any black person. Try saying the word on a radio show and watch what happens. In fact, you may have broken the law although the context in which you referred to the words would be a defence I would imagine.

Knowing use of racist terms to refer to other black people is employed by some black people and is known as reclaiming the language. The idea behind this is that use of racist terms by black people is supposed to reduce their power. It is not a practice I would recommed that white people use because it is highly likely that it will be interpreted by a black person as racist.

Do you regard as offensive the terms ‘paki’ or ‘yid’ or ‘poof’ or ‘thick paddy’ or ‘catholic paedo’?

I’m afraid ignorance is no defence. It’s obviously up to you to decide if you wish to educate yourself on this important topic.

  3. that EPL; best league in the world apparently……. :)

oh what delight to hear the bitterness in the ITV commentators voice after Basel scored their second; such breath taking arrogance even when their top two sides are sent packing into the previously “worthless” (now much coveted no doubt) europa league

mon celtic, get udinese pumped then we’ll slay Manchester lol!!! :P

I could see us selling one or two midfielders and promote this young man. Reminded me of a young Billy Bremner / Archie Gemmill

Sorry fell asleep!! I’ll discuss this with you another time.

It does my head in when people refer to Scotland as some protestant backwater. I stood with thousands of others in Dundee on Sunday and on the previous Wednesday I was there with many thousand others.

We were there because an Irish marist brother gave us a cause to which we could belong 123 years previously. I will not be oppressed by anyone.

    No Excuses,

agreed, tax ditribution is important, to me and you and most honorable British tax payers, essential services to the domestic population is a higher priority than the British corporate protection fund being used to destablise foregn economies.

Tax distribution not supporting in order of most indifference, the NHS, Social Services (eg home help, fire brigade), home security (polis).

The British corporate protection fund is another matter altogether.

Huns accept all the essential serices as collateral damage, but deny their possibility that their corporate protection liabilty.

That liability is a matter of life and death to its operatives.

Sorry pal I dont remember them singing too many Quaker hymns, do you ??

So, with that in mind, is rangers fiscal policy compromising the lives of British soldiers in active duty ??

Nearly collapsed reading that post about Sammy Kilpatrick. This discussion about Sammy has been held here in the past.

My dad I think knew Sammy well and he had no problem with being talked about in that way.

Anyway I reckon it was wrong but times have changed thankfully.

*my da was at school with Sammy, wee St Pats aka McLean Place

He lived up Castlehill where my in-laws resided

Coming hame from a reserve gemme one Friday night he got on with the bingo mob at Partick Hill

Wisnae long on when a sing song started

Sammy as black as coal sung “my parents they were Irish and they died for an Irish cause”

You see Sammy’s parents were Irish and his siblings were white

He was what was known then as a throwback

He had lovely daughters and one was at school with my wife

And yes he was always known as Sammy the Darkie.

Yeah the big fella at the back is a strapping lad, he has along way to go, thought our Fraser and even their other centre half were better.

Did you see the second sending off? was it a hand/arm/elbow something to the upper body/face?

Some great football played, would put some of the first teamers to shame, without me naming names….. a real joy and a freebie with the 3 match package.

Do you know if the U19 are usually available for public spectators? I wouldn’t mind seeing them develop without waiting till next year.
