Pot 4, decline of the Spanish empire

1020

A cursory look at our fellow pot 4 Champions League teams shows the extent of the challenge.  Six of the eight teams lost: Steaua Bucharest (3-0), Austrian Vienna (0-1), Celtic (2-0), Real Sociedad (0-2), Plzen (0-3), Anderlecht (2-0).

Copenhagen got one of the better results of the night, a 1-1 draw at home to Italian champions, Juventus, while Napoli, who split Juve and Milan in the Italian league last season, but are still a pot 4 team, recorded the only bottom tier win, a 2-1 victory over last season’s finalists, Borussia Dortmund.

Napoli are in a different category than the rest but Celtic are in with a decent chance of out-performing others from pot 4.

Sociedad’s home reversal to Shakhter Donetsk, who are going through a rebuilding process was a shock, but Valencia’s 0-3 Europa League defeat to Swansea indicates a worrying scenario for Spanish football below the uber-indebted Barca and Real Madrid.  As a general rule, anything which undermines one of the economically powerful football nations should be welcomed by those disenfranchised by the size of their TV market (that’s us).

Shakhtar Karagandy put in a credible performance before going down 2-1 in Greece, a far better showing than Elfsborg’s 4-0 collapse in Salzburg.  Best of luck to the Kazaks.

I’ve been going to the football long enough to remember black players being booed whenever they touched the ball.  The phenomenon seemed to arrive here in the late 70s and faded around a decade later, although such is human nature I don’t think complacency is appropriate.  Homophobia is a different matter.

‘Out’ gay footballers are so rare I don’t know what the reaction would be at a match but the crowd-bullying phenomenon which can exist in the game makes any minority vulnerable.  The first step is to explain to the hard-of-thinking what they are doing, and the error of their ways.

Can rainbow coloured laces change the world?  Stonewall have distributed rainbow coloured laces to every player in the UK, asking them to wear them this weekend.  We’ll not see the WAGs acronym become WAGSABAH overnight but it feels like an appropriate, colourful, first step.

Keep reaching for that rainbow, Celtic.

    Or a careful orchestrated swindle, which was my gut feeling at the time and to-date, that remains at best unproven and at weakest, most likely. If you have evidence to support that is wasn’t all the parties agreed to it individually but expressed their concerns then tell us.

    There has no satisfactory penalty dished of as far as I or many Scottish supporters can accept. I see no reason why Celtic could not be honest with their support and explain what they thought and why.

    What is best for Celtic would be to not condone cheating from their rival and governing body. Surely?

    Celtic may only have one vote but they have a huge percentage of the paying support and that carries a lot of weight. If they spoke out about wrong-doing, it would have a massive impact.

    The evidence to me and the Celtic board does not support trusting those governing Scottish football.

    Apathy rules. That is a very sad fact. I’ll remember that forever. Every moan from the apathetic Celtic support will fall on my soon to be deaf ears. I understand the underclass klan doing nothing but I’ll never understand the apathy from the Celtic support. I am tempted to repost a post from Maggie McGill about shafting. How I wish she was wrong but the posts on CQN and other Celtic websites only support it. I’ve seen very little action to confirm otherwise. For example. Three people in total with try and get enough signatures tomorrow for canamalars resolution to get to the AGM. From such a huge support, I’m not really interested in peoples excuses for not being willing and able. They could do it by themesleves, it it really was important to them.

    Months of post and chat all over the Celtic world. Nobody cares (except a handful). If tickets went on sale tomorrow for Celtic v The The Rangers. 10’s of thousand will be giving their credit card details tomorrow. Shame on you.

    Those who think they are gone are going to be given a massive slap in the face soon. PLEASE don’t moan about it when it happens.

    The old firm is alive and well and the apathetic Celtic support are to be given credit for that, which suits the short-sighted clubs ambitions. Their motivation is money. What’s yours?

    I was really surprised that nobody on-line and only one person off-line took up my offer to get them European Championship League tickets. I fully expected to have to say sorry to people as I was limited to 12. When the doors opened, I bought just 3.

    I suspect there were even people in the queue that I could have and would have helped. It was a weird feeling. Maybe my boring posts were to blame.

    If you want to really make your mark here, be a wee bit controversial and suggest a wee bit of chilled avocado on your chees and toast. Trust me, there’ll be polls, there’ll be disgust; there’ll be uproar; there’ll be letters to parliament; there’ll be riots; there’ll be posters with medals of honour from their eyebrows to their ingrowing toenails calling you a hun; but ne’r despair, I like a wee bit of chilled avocado on my cheese and toast.

    Arrested for Preaching the Gospel!

    —————————————–

    Wednesday – 18 September 2013

    The past few months have been rather intense in the open-air preaching community. I have had numerous friends arrested for preaching Jesus in public, and I often wondered if my day would come. Personally, I never want to be arrested for preaching. I respect the Police, and think they do a hard job. However, today, God in His Sovereignty allowed me to be arrested for preaching the Gospel in Perth, Scotland.

    It was a beautiful autumn day in Perth. The sky was clear, and the sun shone. It was so nice that I thought it’d be good to have lunch with my family in the town before I began to the outreach. After some family time, I began to hand out Gospel tracts and talk to people about Jesus. The tracts went out rather quickly, and people seemed more open to talking today.

    At 11:45am, I stood up to preach in the open-air. My text for today was John 8:31-36 –

    “Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?” Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

    My emphasis was one: Truth, Slavery, and Freedom. I spoke about how Christ is true, and we can trust His Words. I preached on how we are all enslaved to sin, and how it is only by Jesus Christ that we can be free.

    While I was preaching a staff member from EE came out and began to swear at me. He yelled some abuse and then walked away. A group of teenage girls also gathered and began to mock the Gospel. I warned them that God is not mocked, what they sow, they will reap.

    After preaching for a few more minutes a crowd began to gather. It was then that a window opened up behind me and a man hung out and began to scream at me in foul language. He told me not to politely to shut up and go away. During this time the police drove past and ignored me.

    I kept preaching, and spoke about how Christ offers freedom from sins. At this stage a man asked the question, “Why would a good God allow suffering?” I answered his objection, and pointed out that the concept of a good God should terrify him, as God’s goodness demands that sin must be punished.

    It was around this time I noticed the police van coming back around. It drove into the area where the crowd gathered, and the officer turned off the engine. I was expecting him do say something, but he didn’t say a word. So, I kept preaching. This drew attention, people everywhere began to stop to see why a police van was blocking the preacher. Praise the Lord that He allowed the Gospel to go out further!

    After a few minutes the police officer finally spoke. He told me to stop, as I was breaking the law. I asked him what law I was breaking, and he replied that I was in breach of the peace. When I asked him to explain, he pointed to my mp3 recorder and said I was too loud. I pointed out to the officer that I wasn’t using amplification, but just my natural voice. I then asked him what a reasonable sound level would be. The police officer replied that the noise level isn’t the issue, but rather that a complaint had been made. I tried to reason with the officer, explaining that such argumentation is subjective as anyone can claim anything is too loud.

    During this time a man who had been listening to the open-air began to protest the police stopping me. One of the officers didn’t like this, so he began to push this man telling him to go away. I pointed out that the officer was assaulting the man and he shouldn’t be doing that.

    The man then turned to the crowd and began to address them about freedoms and civil liberties. The police at this stage left me and went to the man. I was behind the van and couldn’t see what happened, but my wife said the police were very physically rough with this man.

    After dealing with him the police came back to me. The officer said I wasn’t allowed to preach. I tried explaining that I wasn’t breaking the law, and that I would continue to preach. At this the officer said, “If you do that I’ll arrest you.” My answer was, “I guess you had better arrest me then, as I’m not breaking the law.” With this the police officer placed me under arrest for breach of the peace.

    By this stage a second police van had arrived. It was called in for prisoner transport. What was interesting was that it was called in before I was arrested. It almost makes me assume that the police had planned from the beginning to arrest me.

    The crowd was still present at this time, and they watched me be arrested. During this same time the man who was protesting was also arrested for breach of the peace. Again the police were rough with him. One officer pushed him while another man forcibly removed the mans wallet to search for ID.

    It was around this time I spoke to another officer who told me that I was being arrested. Again, I asked what law I had broken. It was at this point she told me that the content of my message was illegal. I found this amazing, since I was only preaching the Gospel. She also said people had accused me of swearing at those in the crowd. I pointed out that was a lie, and that I have an mp3 recording of the whole open-air.

    After a few more minutes I was placed in the back of a police van. Behind me was the protesting man.

    We were driven through the city centre of Perth to the police station. On arrival I was told to sit and wait. The police nicely left my Bible with me, so I was able to read from Psalm 37 as I waited.

    They first dealt with the protest man, and then they took me into an interview room. The police began to speak, but I interrupted and asked that the interview be recorded and that I have my legal representative. They refused to allow this. As a result I used my right to silence.

    Towards the end of my interview the officer said to me, “You seem reasonable. Why don’t you just stop preaching?” I replied by saying, “Let me ask you a question, is it better to obey man or God?”

    With that the interview was over, and I was given a caution. The police also told me that if I preach again then we will go through the process all over again.

    Praise God the Gospel went forth despite the opposition.

    Please pray for us!

    Soli Deo Gloria!

    As I said I don’t know. What I do know is that material that supported the integrity argument was used by Celtic to get the message out there.

    Not the action of folk backing the commercial debate.

    As I said I would like a bit more evidence on the UEFA licence and LNS issues to emerge to move me into knowing, but if that never happens and nothing changes I’ll know for sure who to trust. At the moment I’m giving the guys in charge the benefit of my doubt.

  8. Morrissey the 23rd:

    If I was a ‘shareholder’ I’d have been the first to back Canamalar, but I do find it intriguing why so many who defend the board, which is nice and is their god given right, resort to ad hominem innuendo to discredit Canamalar’s ethical concerns.

    Now don’t let me be one to judge but I’m going to puke a wee opinion, those ad hominem innuendo attacks on the silently good guy that is Canamalar… well they say everything you need to ever know about those who penned them.

    Some say if you don’t judge then how do you measure morals and ethics? Now that is a hard one.

    A wee dangling wonder for all those so opposed to ever watching Rangers ever again. (although I am amazed at how many, who never want to see them play again, go onto their sites, and watch their games, and comment on them on here. All this wondering is not good for you.)

    Morrissey, I got a reply back from canamalar on my question regarding the numbers supporting the resolution.

    mid 70’s.

    I find it unbelievable that posters on this site who obviously despise the huns and what they’ve done to our game will not support a method of outing the SFA that has no come back on our club.

    The poster the other night who decided he wouldn’t support it because of who raised the resolution may wish he had when the huns are running the show again. That was a pathetic read back.

    FFS, I had 520 requests for a daft ring tone, but our support will not question the SFA, I find that heartbreaking.

    It’s not too late. If you want a good broker give these guys a call and by a hundred quid’s worth and sign up to the hun skelpers resolution.

  13. The Frankfurt School and the War on the West

    By Bill Muehlenberg on May 11th, 2009.

    The cultural and ideological battles raging around us do not exist in a vacuum, nor have they happened by accident. There are those who hate the West and want to destroy it and make it into their own image. Many groups and individuals are actively at work in this assault on the West.

    Many movements and groups can be mentioned, but here I wish to focus on just one. It has been hugely influential in undermining the West and bringing about cultural Marxism. Even though Marxism as a political force is greatly diminished, it is still alive and well in its cultural form. I refer to the Frankfurt School.

    Much has been written on this revolutionary movement, and all that can be done here is to offer a brief summary of it and its influence. And given that very good write-ups already exist, I will not reinvent the wheel here. Instead I will draw upon a helpful recent summary article by Timothy Matthews.

    Just what exactly is the Frankfurt School? “Well, in the days following the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia, it was believed that workers’ revolution would sweep into Europe and, eventually, into the United States. But it did not do so. Towards the end of 1922 the Communist International (Comintern) began to consider what were the reasons. On Lenin’s initiative a meeting was organised at the Marx-Engels Institute in Moscow.

    “The aim of the meeting was to clarify the concept of, and give concrete effect to, a Marxist cultural revolution. Amongst those present were Georg Lukacs (a Hungarian Marxist theoretician he developed the idea of ‘Revolution and Eros’ – sexual instinct used as an instrument of destruction) and Willi Munzenberg (whose proposed solution was to ‘organise the intellectuals and use them to make Western civilisation stink. Only then, after they have corrupted all its values and made life impossible, can we impose the dictatorship of the proletariat’)”

    The ‘School’ was started at the University of Frankfurt in 1923. “When Hitler came to power, the Institut was closed and its members, by various routes, fled to the United States and migrated to major US universities – Columbia, Princeton, Brandeis, and California at Berkeley.”

    Many important names are associated with the School: “The School included among its members the 1960s guru of the New Left Herbert Marcuse, Max Horkheimer, Theodor Adorno, the popular writer Erich Fromm, Leo Lowenthal, and Jurgen Habermas – possibly the School’s most influential representative.”

    So what was the aim of these men? “Basically, the Frankfurt School believed that as long as an individual had the belief – or even the hope of belief – that his divine gift of reason could solve the problems facing society, then that society would never reach the state of hopelessness and alienation that they considered necessary to provoke socialist revolution. Their task, therefore, was as swiftly as possible to undermine the Judaeo-Christian legacy. To do this they called for the most negative destructive criticism possible of every sphere of life which would be designed to de-stabilize society and bring down what they saw as the ‘oppressive’ order. Their policies, they hoped, would spread like a virus—‘continuing the work of the Western Marxists by other means’ as one of their members noted.”

    They devised strategies by which the destruction of the West could quickly and effectively take place: “To further the advance of their ‘quiet’ cultural revolution – but giving us no ideas about their plans for the future – the School recommended (among other things):

    Aims(1926):

    “1. The Creation Of Racism Offences.

    2. Continual Change To Create Confusion.

    3. The Teaching Of Sex And Homosexuality To Children.

    4. The Undermining Of Schools’ And Teachers’ Authority.

    5. Huge Immigration To Destroy Identity.

    6. The Promotion Of Excessive Drinking.

    7. Emptying Of Churches.

    8. An Unreliable Legal System With Bias Against Victims Of Crime.

    9. Dependency On The State Or State Benefits.

    10. Control And Dumbing Down Of Media.

    11. Encouraging The Breakdown Of The Family.”.

    ~~~~
    If anyone is wondering why the West is embarked upon sexual suicide, much of the answer can be found in the Frankfurt School: “One of the main ideas of the Frankfurt School was to exploit Freud’s idea of ‘pansexualism’ – the search for pleasure, the exploitation of the differences between the sexes, the overthrowing of traditional relationships between men and women. To further their aims they would:
    “• attack the authority of the father, deny the specific roles of father and mother, and wrest away from families their rights as primary educators of their children.
    • abolish differences in the education of boys and girls.
    • abolish all forms of male dominance – hence the presence of women in the armed forces.
    • declare women to be an ‘oppressed class’ and men as ‘oppressors’.
    Munzenberg summed up the Frankfurt School’s long-term operation thus: ‘We will make the West so corrupt that it stinks’.”
    Matthews explores each of these areas in more detail, and then makes this summary statement: “The School believed there were two types of revolution: (a) political and (b) cultural. Cultural revolution demolishes from within. ‘Modern forms of subjection are marked by mildness’. They saw it as a long-term project and kept their sights clearly focused on the family, education, media, sex and popular culture.”
    Another detailed article, complete with references, is also worth reading (see second link below). But as this very brief introduction demonstrates, it is not by accident that we see the West in moral freefall, especially with sexual degradation leading the charge.
    Sure, in a fallen world, human sinfulness will gravitate toward such a direction anyway. But when guided and prodded along by activists who seek to speed up the process of cultural decline, then things deteriorate really quickly indeed.
    To engage in the culture wars effectively, one needs to know whom one is fighting against. The Frankfurt School is not the only aggressor we face, but it is one of them, and an important one at that. Being aware of such movements help us to make sense of the rapid degeneration of the West, and lets us know that we really are in a war. Now is not the time to opt out of this conflict. The stakes are far too high to choose non-involvement.
    My point was that Celtic possibly backed a top tier solution when plans were being drawn up for how to deal with Ranger’s demise but as the strength of support feeling ‘re integrity came through,that commercial stance if it was the case, changed.
    From that point of understanding, reason tells us that Celtic would be much better off if Rangers cheating to get at CL money were out of the top tier than in it. Other clubs with no CL cushion would think differently.
    On the SFA I have no doubts that the twin forces of commercialism and bias to one club influenced them and the majority of members to try a stitch and but for the action of supporters of all other clubs the plan would have gone through. But Celtic in the lead up to the SPL vote were against a top tier solution and as I said used material sent them to support the integrity stance.
    But before you do that, send me an e-mail to kitalba@g-mail.com with your phone number and I’ll phone you right this minute to arrange the transfer of the one hundred pounds to pay for your choice to have their voice of concern (not dissent) heard.
    I do not have the time, nor the interest, to scroll through a whole blog, could you be a wee bit more specific?
    Oh and no big deal to me but there is no ‘N’ in my blog name. I know you’re a stickler for detail.
    I bought 1000 shares when canamalar first posted his resolution. If I’d foreseen the apathy on here to questioning the SFA I’d have done it differently and bought ten blocks of 100 gaining him ten signatures.
    Sorry canamalar I missed a trick and let you down on the number count. I thought you’d have had thousands battering down your door to bring the SFA to account. I still cant understand why that’s not the case. After all, are we not Celtic? Do we alway’s tell each other YNWA? You are pretty much walking alone.
    Hail Hail to you for your efforts but CQN seems to support the status quo and await the return of the vile hoard. It’s a shame when you read the anti hun, anti sfa, anti establishment posts on this blog that in reality, we’re happy to accept being shat on.
    Goodnight Celtic people. I will not be taking a seat at the back of the bus any time soon.
  25. An Stor,
    Haven’t read back so don’t now what the current drama is or what troll has caused it/ them.
    But wanted to share this with you amigo. This is how I see you tractoring on through the ole CQN, educating and making serious points, regardless of what anyone thinks of you. Pure principle. Love it. And I know you won’t pay much attention to this, but I hope you do.
    I’d be a liar if I told you I don’t care what people think of me, I do, but honestly mate, for me, honestly held concerns are much more important than sensitivity. Sometimes I agree with sincere gripes of fellow Celtic Supporters, sometimes I don’t, but see honest passion, you can’t fake it, and that is what makes my heart beat.
    Not many that have ever met me mate leave doubting my sincerity nor my ability to be the first to the bar.
    Prepare for more carnage in NI over the weekend as the scum triumphalists are not allowed to parade their brand of carnival atmosphere on another catholic area of Belfast.
    Petec, I’m glad you disagree “big time”. That will hopefully stimulate some debate versus my extreme view and hatred of the orange order and their rancid sectarian persecution of the people I’ve come from.
    I’d nuke em if I could get all the tims out of ulster for a picnic in Glasgow, but then again I’d fire bomb Cessnock and everything west and south if I I had my hate filled finger trigger on the button.
    Well, you just re-enforced all said there.
    You hold a special place for me. Reading CQN from years ago, and then joining in and being a dick,I could do that knowing the steadfast principles have always been held by yourself and one or two others. But I particularly like the cut of your gibb.
    Pure honesty.
    Can never fail. Suppose what I am saying is, Hail Hail to that, and more of it.
    And am indulging a wee bit myself re the Straight Story. Love it.
    And will be honest at the risk of sounding gay (in the millenium sense).
