Pour some ‘Best wee country’ syrup down your throat

Whatever former Scotland manager Craig Levein tells the media about referees’ behaviour will not come as news to you.  As Dundee United boss in 2008 he faced Rangers and was so incensed by the behaviour of referee, Mike McCurry, his reaction cost him a £5k SFA fine.

This is Scotland, it is not news, it is not even noteworthy.  The reaction from sections of the media and referees since a Celtic goal on Thursday tells you all you need to know.  Let them pour some more ‘Best wee country’ syrup down your throat while they are at it.  My only flag is green and white.

  1. Ernie,

I’m not offended by the song. I would prefer to let it remain in the past as I don’t see it relevant to a modern football club.

It’s as relevant to a modern football club as the history of Boots the Chemist selling cigarettes.

However, I’ve got a good idea. If you want to sing such songs about how good it is to be a Roman Catholic then surely 12 o’clock on a Sunday is a perfect traditional Mass.Time

  2. I’m sure when WGS concludes his review of all things Celtic, publishes his findings and recommendations, we’ll be able to compete with the likes of Ajax, Sheriff , Cluj etc.

We might even appoint a head of recruitment, or is that taking it too far.

Surely if the fans at the game are choosing to sing it’s relevant?

Unless Celtic should start every season afresh with no regard to what has gone before.

Your frequent use of the word `cult` suggests that you think ALL SNP voters are cultists. Is that what you do believe?

Phrase of the day, from the 16th century, is ‘give someone the bauble’: to play them for a sucker or fool.

Why not post a topical Celtic post that we can all debate, especially if the current topics are not to your liking ?

    HH.and happy posting.

  8. Lyrics

    Smile an everlasting smile

A smile can bring you near to me

Don’t ever let me find you down

‘Cause that would bring a tear to me

This world has lost its glory

Let’s start a brand new story now, my love

Right now, there’ll be no other time

And I can show you how, my love

    Talk in everlasting words

And dedicate them all to me

And I will give you all my life

I’m here if you should call to me

You think that I don’t even mean

    A single word I say

It’s only words and words are all I have

    To take your heart away

You think that I don’t even mean

    A single word I say

It’s only words and words are all I have

    To take your heart away

It’s only words and words are all I have

    To take your heart away

It’s only words and words are all I have

  9. I see our long serving NED, Mr Wilson, being mentioned again. Apart from appearing at our annual AGM, Brian maintains Dermot’s code of silence on all things Celtic for the other 364 days of the year.

A very different Brian appears every Wednesday in The Herald. A weekly NATbash and today is no different. With the Harvie’s Greens now occupying the Tartan Tent (Brian’s words), this is manna from heaven for Mr Wilson. And he doesn’t miss his target.

Irrespective of whether you agree, or not, with Brian’s politics, is it really in Celtic’s best interests to have a director on board who openly detests the ruling party in Scotland ?

Things really are bad if people are thinking along those lines. Truly scary and chilling.

  11. HOT SMOKED on 8TH DECEMBER 2021 10:05 AM

Their committed support, the propagandists and shills on here, certainly are a cult, and the party itself operates as a cult, without a doubt.

Is it as chilling as comparing any criticism of the union to the holocaust and death of 6m people?

  13. JIMDOM on 8th December 2021 10:30 am

I think it would be beneficial to have politicians on the board who actually used their contacts and power to help Celtic and the support. However having a politician who lies about the demise of our former greatest rivals and spends all his time wrapping himself in the union flag and ignoring the democratic will of the Scottish people is definitely not.

    —————————————————–

I wouldn’t say scary and chilling, Ernie. But would you, if you were a politician with power and influence in Scotland, go out of your way to assist a Scottish business where a high profile director openly detests you ? Human nature would come into play.

According to your cult every bad thing in the world is the fault of Scotland being in a political and economic union with another country (England).

This morning it was the Hillsborough disaster, and the ensuing cover up.

That’s a stupid and ignorant outlook.

The Nazi’s blamed everything on the Jews.

That similarly was a stupid and ignorant outlook.

    See the similarity?

    No?

    OK.

    Jog on.

  16. ‘ignoring the democratic will of the Scottish people’

    As expressed in a referendum?

Didn’t we have one of those?

    Who’s ignoring the result?

  18. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Interesting read back this morning, 2 threads in particular caught my eye.

Our standing in Europe – cogent arguments on both sides. I’m not taking one here but think we can concur that, in recent years,we’ve lost to clubs smaller than us more frequently than we have beaten larger clubs.

I suspect that is one of the main sources of frustration.

    Catholicism in the UK?

What a hoot, filled with historical irony !

The reformations in England and Scotland each took place from c.500 years ago.

    There endeth the similarities.

    England’s reformation was sheer opportunism.

Give the psychopath on the throne a various vaginas option to sire a male heir …

… while simultaneously land grabbing and making his allies rich.

Scotland’s reformation was largely based on fundamental theological concerns (whether we agree with those concerns or the brutality of the implementation is a wider issue).

Roll forward almost half a millennium.

As Sam Goldwyn allegedly said ..

“We’ve all passed a lot of water since then”

Having spent fair chunks of time in both countries, IMHO …

England is far more indifferent towards, tolerant of, and unthreatened by, Catholicism than Scotland.

    Not even close.

  19. JIMDOM on 8TH DECEMBER 2021 11:15 AM

    And so it begins.

Intolerant and authoritarian nationalists starting to flex their muscles.

    This will end well.

  20. I will, of course, be interested in the result tomorrow night and if modern Scotland made a return trip to Arbroath possible by bus or train I would be going. Overall, though, I don`t feel much enthusiasm for this game.Does that mean I don`t really like football and that all I am really interested in is Celtic winning when it truly matters?

Will there be over 35,000 there tomorrow night?

Not the most fascinating of questions, I accept but I am trying to steer the posts back to matters Celtic.

Not sure he was a psychopath. I think there’s a suggestion that his personality changed after sustaining a head injury. Whatever, he died thinking he was a Catholic. As you say it was a very different cavalcade of events compared to Scotland.

  22. Does anyone in the B team deserve a run out, even as a sub in the Betis game?

I haven’t seen any of the games but have heard some positive talk of a couple of the players

  23. Happy Birthday, CELTICROLLERCOASTER,

That makes Marc six days older than me…..or maybe there is another possibility.

PS ….and the word `Celtic ` is in this post :-)

  24. TIMMY7_NOTED on 8TH DECEMBER 2021 11:26 AM

I’m not sure whether you’re just stupid enough to believe what you post or are so dishonest that’s it’s as easy for you to lie as to tell the truth but your misrepresentations are so transparently obvious that anyone with half a brain can see through them.

  25. CAMUSBHOY on 8TH DECEMBER 2021 11:34 AM

Yes, it would be a good game to give the likes of Dembele a game ( I think he has not fully recovered from injury yet).

  26. prestonpans bhoys on

Tomorrow is just a good excuse to get out the house, have a few beers, met daughter and bhoys from the bus. Shame the game gets in the way 😱😂😂😂😂😂😂

  27. I wonder what Brian Wilson, and by inference Ernie, think of Beaton being given the cup final?

Could he write an article about that?

On a separate note I enjoyed young Mr Greg Taylor’s comments in the press conference, I’m glad he’s up for the fight and I hope he wins it. Nothing I enjoy more than home grown Tims being a success. Go for it son.

  28. ernie lynch on 8th December 2021 11:36 am

“Misrepresentations”, really? Comparing honestly held political opinions to the holocaust and murder of 6m people, now that’s what I call “Misrepresentations”.

    P.S. Jog on :-)
