Pragmatic expectations and serial divorcees

1500

I spoke to a serial divorcee some years ago and he suggested that after one bad marriage, you’re more likely to plunge headfirst into another, then another, than your average person, despite all the warning signs.

He was driven by a need to put things right in his life.  Regretful of lost time, he wanted to get on with finding a secure, lasting, future relationship.

Parma were a tiny club for most of their existence, occupying the fourth tier of Italian football, but they rose inextricably to become one of the top clubs in Europe.  When Rangers knocked them out of the Champions League qualifiers in the 90s, they were sixth top seed in the Uefa rankings.  When the money dried up and insolvency grabbed them a few years ago it must have been hard to accept their place – a club with little substance going for it, but with fans expecting glory.

News this week that after liquidation a newco Parma would kick off at the bottom tier of the professional game in Italy is a morality tale.  Just as my pal, the divorcee, was compelled to plunge into a ‘lasting and successful’ relationship at the first opportunity, few people who pick up the pieces of insolvent football clubs seem to be blessed with pragmatic expectations.  A second, even more damaging liquidation, haunts in the shadows.

  1. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Roy Croppie at 21.29, Shuggie Dallas doing what he did best.

His boy looks like a chip off the old block.

It might be me being paranoid about my paranoia but since Shuggie has had some influence at Uefa, we have had some real wallopers of refs in our european games over the last nine years. We have had some poor performances in Europe in that time but the standard of referee has matched our perfomances at time.

I’m sure John Buckley was in the squad.

From the photo I coud recognise Willie McStay, Jim McInally and John McGoldrick (our right back in that game).

The Leeds game you posted earlier, I think that was game Jinky wore number nine. You posted a picture a few weeks ago with Jinky wearing nine and Jack Charlton trtyng to tackle him.

Yon photo of JVOH scoring against the dead guys would bring tears to a glass eye.

    One helluva night.

Thanks for putting it on bud.

  3. Winning Captains, been trying to read the CQN Mag. article on the Holding company myth being exposed, it keeps reloading every 30 seconds.

First problem I have had with the new site.

    First paragraph is great btw:-)

    Read it five times now!

Its a poster who 1st appeared commenting on sevco shares talk on LSE site.

He now posts regularly on Rankers supporters Loyal and on twitter though only a few tweets .

there was talk he is JI but was denied ,

One thing for sure he is no fan of the “glib & shameless liar” or Jaba Traynor and how they are spinning to the deluded.

Neil was asked to do the voice over on the updated video but felt uncomfortable talking about his own tenure and declined. The woman who led the tour said she wanted Broony and was advised no due to the time it would take him to do it. Hahahaha.

Lisa Hague and the wee guy from xfactor watched it when they done their charity event a few weeks ago and when the lights came back up she was in tears. Kris does a very good job.

It’s hard to cram in our history to a short film but it does the club justice for a non supporter to give them a flavour. We certainly miss a trick with a more interactive system where people can learn more detail and also learn about specific players especially the older legends that there is less footage for.

    It’s still Magic tho!

  6. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Roy Croppie, Paul Chalmers , he has quite a famous dad, was the number twelve in that Glasgow Cup Final.

From memory, I think John Sludden played up front with John Halpin. Latchford for England was in goal and Jim Dobbin was in midfield.

If we think Sevco are mince , the sticky first team and reserves were as bad in the early eighties.

Great memories and I always pinned so much hope on our new young talent…still great beating them at any level.

  8. LiviBhoy: I’ve done the stadium tour every year for the last 20 years. I love it, especially the video at the end. It really influences the young people I bring over. However, it could be more effective and as other posters have pointed out, it could be marketed better. Definitely recommend it to every supporter, young, old and in between.

Very nasty comment.Take your place in the Brass section of CQN.We already have 3 trumpets(no one has seen them in the same room together right enough),so I suppose another trumpet wont go amiss.

  10. Here’s an wee idea,

Know how there are listening tours when you go round museums, you are given a wee set of headphones and wee box with the recording, you can choose the language to listen to.

Now here’s the idea, the Celtic tour is done the same way but the alternative languages are done by players in their native language, imagine putting on the Swedish version and getting Henke narrating for Swedish visitors or Stan narrating for Bulgarian visitors Lubo.

Ok we missed them maybe we could ask them to make recordings now I’m sure they’d be happy to for a token fee or even a charitable donation in their name.

Now the next step, new players coming to Celtic park should be asked to do the same within the first year of signing, this will do two jobs, one we have them on record even if they go on to become world famous but mostly it would educate them about our club and why it’s so special.

    What do you think ?

  11. Almore

I like your style. May make it a regular event myself. Email will be sent to the club with my thoughts. No harm in making some suggestions for the future.
