Stewart Regan became chief executive of the Scottish Football Association in July 2010. The position had been vacant after the resignation of Gordon Smith, with then-president, George Peat, acting in the role.
Within months the SFA was plunged into turmoil after a whistle-blower revealed that referee Dougie McDonald lied to Celtic manager, Neil Lennon, and the SFA match observer. A further crisis was to engulf the SFA which would lead to the dismissal of the head of referee development and referees went on strike before the end of the year.
When Neil Lennon was able to argue two technical area bans were due to run concurrently, according to SFA rules, Regan accepted the rules he inherited were not fit for purpose and started an overview of rules and procedures. This resulted in the establishment of the Judicial Panel system which recently disciplined Rangers.
Regan was posted missing from the on-going Rangers scandal which was consuming Scottish football until he was prompted to get involved when Channel 4 reporter, Alex Thomson, tweeted that he had been accused of lying by a media person at the SFA. Perhaps sensing a serious error had been committed which would bring the association into disrepute, Regan immediately asked Thomson to get in touch directly and agreed to be interviewed on camera about the matter.
At the interview Regan told the reporter that SFA president, Campbell Ogilvie was “heavily conflicted” over the Rangers situation.
It is likely that Regan was put as off-balance as anyone inside Murray Park at the punishment handed out to Rangers by the judicial panel but he emerged with credit for establishing robust procedure, “without fear or favour”.
Prediction: Regan will be well prepared for tonight’s news and will issue a statement tomorrow. He will survive the episode intact and will turn the crisis into the most impressive part of his CV. Next move will be to a major PLC or government position as CEO.

Get them all gone, leave no stones for them to slide under.
By continuing in office Campbell Ogilvie displays antipathy towards the governance of Scottish football, the associations honesty and integrity is called into question for allowing this odious little runt to remain President, we should call for the SFA to disband, they have proven their inability to provide proper governance, failure in such a large scale is evidence of the rancid corruption inside the Scottish football authorities.

Is there a motive behind the Kilmarnock chairman’s comments?
I’m finding it extremely difficult to read the mind of Kilmarnock chairman Michael Johnston after his latest comments regarding the appropriate punishment for a Rangers Newco entering the SPL.
I would have thought it was in his, and his clubs best interest to encourage supporters of all the other clubs in Scotland to come to Rugby Park, his latest comments I believe will alienate him even more from the other ten clubs supporters.
I sometimes wonder how these people see their place in Scottish Football, what do they bring to the game in Scotland? In supporters terms not a lot, they brought just over 300 to Celtic Park this season, in a match held about half an hour up the road from Kilmarnock, and in the League Cup Final against Celtic, they had less supporters present than they had at the semi-final, what does that tell you?
There are strong feelings amongst the Celtic Support regarding a selective bhoycott of away matches next season, whether that comes to pass or not remains to be seen, but if you ask the Celtic Support which grounds they would like to bhoycott, Kilmarnock would be very high up on the list, if not at the very top.
Johnston has consistently spoke out publicly in support of Rangers, that is his prerogative, but I suspect there is more to it than just blanket support, maybe he thinks if a Rangers Newco is demoted to Division 3, then lots of the Ayrshire Rangers supporters will go to Rugby Park instead of travelling to some far flung part of Scotland.
Maybe Mr Johnston should have kept his powder dry until all the results of the investigations are known, even the documentary tonight on BBC Scotland by Mark Daly promises to be very revealing and controversial.
Kilmarnock is famous for their pies, but it’s usually the mince variety, it could turn out in Mr Johnston’s case to be the humble variety.
Ogilvie….continues to exhibit all the qualities of an intractable, supremacist hun
his refusal to resign is a national embarrassment

I make you think I’m delicious
With the stuff that I say
I am the best you can get
Have you guessed me yet?
I am the slime oozin’ out
From your TV set
You will obey me while I lead you
And eat the garbage that I feed you
Until the day that we don’t need you
Don’t got for help…no one will heed you
Your mind is totally controlled
It has been stuffed into my mold
And you will do as you are told
Until the rights to you are sold
That’s right, folks..

Paul deserves enormous credit for the job he’s done on this blog, over a long period, educating Celtic fans in the realities of the football business. I see there’s still one or two recidivists who see this year, like every previous year, as a great chance to do really well if only we spend a few quid (ffs).
Personally I admire his restraint in the way he deals with the knockers who have, and still do, occasionally, mock this blog as football for accountants, or deride Paul as a mouthpiece for the board (such a remark actually cropped up on RTC today). Not to mention this correspondent’s perennial and unpopular argument in favour of paying visitors a substantial slice of matchday income.
Anyway, it seems to me that this is the moment when the big story leaves the ghettos of the Scottish press and the “News at a glance” sections of the English back pages. There will be frustrations ahead as a new class of commentators and politicians pick up the threads, and we do have a chance to help move the affair in theright direction by following the advice of a great man – Vladimir Ilyich “Neil” Lenin: Patiently Explain. This is a time for calm words on English newspaper and boadcast comment pages – not just football outlets, but business and politics too. So, let’s patiently explain about tax evasion, bilking suppliers, evasive administrators and tenth-rate Scottish journalists.
Cheerio now: I am off to Govan to have a look at a big cookery job that’s just come up.

But I could not have WISHED for a more perfect scenario.
They thought they were gonna die.
They were misserable.
They sold thier shirts (to JJB)
They closed thier shops.
They sold were restricted financially and effectively RUN BY THE BANK for a duration.
they THOUGHT that was bad.
Then our Hero stepped in.
And there was mass hysteria.
Front loaded war chests etc.
The world was all good again for the orcs!
Within months there were allegations from the BBC (or as one rangers supporter told me “the BCB – Bigoted Catholic Broadcaster”) which say them banned from Mordor for being anti Rangers.
Fully supported by the fans*** remember this point for later***
Then the club goes into administration.
Every word said by the BBC had been correct.
the fans then cry BLUE MURDER, cos no-one told them what was going on.
eh…. they did, they got banned and abused for it!
Then Bill “The Yank” is chased off for not being one of DA PEE PUL.
Then in comes Green.
Its done!
they have been bought, and Green owns the shares.

Your posts are mouthwatering. They keep me up to the wee small hours and beyond. But, honestly, I did not retire to sit finger tapping and surfing 24 hours a day. I am nearing the stage when I wish the screaming bitch (No, not that one. I still need her to work to keep me in luxury!!) would lie down and gie ‘s peace. Unfortunately her wee whining pups seem to keep popping up to prolong its misery and my annoyance. Och naw, I couldn’t “bear” to not have a CQN read and the screams are more like death rattles now anyway.
Thanks and keep it going Paul.

The Sir Walters have always managed a bit of “cloak and dagger” over the years to ingratiate themselves with queens, especially the Lizies!
