Prof Leitch: politicians are reason you ‘can’t go to Celtic Park’

697

I listened to a Scottish Rugby podcast with Jason Leitch, recorded earlier this week, where they discussed the reasons that appear to lie behind why the Scottish Government in their treatment of football is out of step with European countries, like Germany, France, Netherlands and others, but in-step with the Westminster Government.

Professor Leitch rhetorically posed the question you and I have discussed recently, “Why can I go to the pub and I can’t go to Celtic Park.”  Through analogy, he explained that the Government were able to permit some activities, not all.  That has never been in dispute, during a pandemic, you cannot allow all activities.

What has not previously been confirmed is why the Scottish Government has shadowed the (frankly abysmal) pandemic response of Boris Johnson’s Westminster government, instead of acknowledging the clear and undisputed scientific evidence that drives public policy among our European peers.  Professor Leitch placed responsibility for this squarely with his political masters:

“How you then make choices between sport, versus retail, versus hospitality; that comes down to decision making, by politicians, taking the best advice they can from the financial people, the public health people, the social policy people and making choices.”

Clearly the Scottish Government listens to financial, public health and social policy people before making decisions, so do Boris Johnson and Donald Trump, this allows them to act sincere, it does not make them any good.  But when Europe takes one path, which is consistent with science, and Scotland follows Westminster, which has led to some of the highest rates of mortality in the world in both Scotland and the UK as a whole, we are entitled to ask, what is going on?

They do not have a different virus in Dortmund than we have in Glasgow.  In both places, it spreads significantly more indoors than out.  It is inhibited by adherence to clear and monitored hygiene and distancing rules, like those in place at football games across the Continent, and it spreads where consistent enforcement of these rules is unmonitored – like pubs.  The difference is the politicians, not the virus.

I know this is ‘just’ football, and our consequences are nothing like the care homes fiasco, but government policy needs to shape up pandemic response in all areas.  It is not easy, but if decisions are too onerous for people in Edinburgh to get their heads around, stop following a clown in London and watch what is happening in Europe: fewer deaths, fewer infections, industry specific responses.

‘George Floyd officially died from the Covid.’

    ###

    Not according to this

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_George_Floyd#Autopsies

‘The medical examiner’s final findings,[83][84] issued June 1,[85] found that Floyd’s heart stopped while he was being restrained and that his death was a homicide caused by “cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression”.[86] Other significant conditions were arteriosclerotic heart disease, hypertensive heart disease, fentanyl intoxication, and recent methamphetamine use.[87][83] The report states that on April 3 Floyd had tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, but does not list it as a fatal or other significant condition.[88][89]

Floyd’s family commissioned a second autopsy, carried out by Michael Baden, a pathologist and former New York City chief medical examiner who had autopsied Eric Garner,[90][91] and attended by Allecia Wilson, director of autopsy and forensic services at the University of Michigan Medical School.[92][93] He found that the “evidence is consistent with mechanical asphyxia as the cause of Floyd’s death”, and that the death was a homicide.[94][95][92][87] He said Floyd died from “asphyxia due to compression of the neck”, affecting “blood flow and oxygen going into the brain”, and also from “compression of the back, which interferes with breathing”.[87] He said Floyd had no underlying medical problem that caused or contributed to his death, and that being able to speak does not mean that someone is able to breathe.[96]

Neither examiner mentioned excited delirium,[97][98] a condition which concerned Lane and that he discussed with Chauvin while Floyd was pinned down.[99][100]’

  4. Oh Dear Ernie, quoting Wikipedia.

Since you have done a wee bit of digging, look for the official death cert and you will find that your digging has been a waste of time.

But you and a few others can carry on with your fear porn, it washes with the majority, I bet you are reveling in it.

    ‘Fear fear fear.’

I don’t understand why disputing your claim that George Floyd’s death certificate listed the cause of death as Covid should elicit such a response.

Surely if anyone wanted to cause fear and alarm about Covid they would support your claim, not question it?

  11. LETS ALL DO THE HUDDLE

I read other people saying the same thing.

On a good note I get on here without any problem 🤷‍♀️

  12. ` Certainly if you’re going to be infected, you’d prefer as little a dose of it as possible.`

Do the doses vary in `size`? I have just assumed that the different responses of those catching the virus –varying between no obvious symptoms and a fatal outcome — where to do with the condition of the infected person.

  13. Hot Smoked. 8.56.

I think that’s why so many medical staff have died throughout the world, the more viral load you catch the more dangerous it is.

    That’s my understanding.

As an aside that was another disgrace by the Gov , that they stopped telling the public how many medical staff/ carers had died from the virus.

  14. The fear fear fear has nothing to do with you disputing the George Floyd thing, nothing whatsoever.

You and a few others are peddling the fear, carry on, you will be proven 100% wrong at the end of the day.

I would have thought that someone like you who sees themselves as educated would see what is happening, either you can and are trolling or you are part of the scamdemic, or well you can guess.

A halfwit can see that in a real pandemic certain things are not allowed to happen, in a real pandemic people drop like flies, neither is happening in this scamdemic.

Pretty fundamental I would have thought.

‘Do the doses vary in `size`’

    ###

    Yes.

The other point is that you could get a cummulative succession of doses of the virus if you were coming into contact with different infected people over the course of a few days which would then presumably (I don’t know enough about it to be sure) develop conseculatively, (think Michael Caine and Zulus) which, it seems to me, must be more difficult for the body’s immune system to deal with.

The chances of that happening now, with all the measures in place, must be less likely than when the outbreak first occurred in eg Italy. Maybe that’s why the initial outbreaks were so deadly.

  16. THE EXILED TIM on 9TH OCTOBER 2020 9:05 PM

OK, fine. You’re entitled to your opinion.

What you’re not entitled to do is peddle untruths to support your opinion.

So, about George Floyd’s cause of death. Have you seen a copy of the death certificate? Yes or no.

  17. JNP

As Fairhill Bhoy says above, I thought it was similar to the `a bit pregnant` analogy. My unevidenced view was that Covid was so virulent that, once caught, it multiplied rapidly and did what it does but some people were able to overcome the assault and some where not.ie Same dose;different response.

    Fairhillbhoy

The boled egg comparison might just paint a truer picture ie Soft or hard boiled they are still boiled eggs but they are not equally affected by the experience. Is that what you meant and I am just stating the obvious ? :-))

  18. I have and I will wager that you have as well.

As for untruths, it’s you who are spouting the untruths, I have said nothing that is not on a government site, nothing whatsoever.

I have not given, unlike you, an opinion, not once, only facts that are there for all to see if they care to look.

  19. ernie

Thanks for that. I had already typed my post to JNP and FB before reading yours. Thanks again.

    TET – hi.

Not sure what the point you are making is.

Are you saying the current Coronavirus isn’t actually a pandemic?

I think I understand what you are saying re: “dropping like flies” (but don’t agree).

A bit of a stretch to deny that we are in the midst of a pandemic though.

Listen – stuff on here; it’s only words – important thing is to wish and pray for you and your loved ones to have good health.

    God bless.

  21. Hot Smoked, you and F.B peaked my interest, so I’ve googled.

This is from April , so not exactly up to date, it’s from News Medical Life Sciences.

By Dr. Ananya Mandal, MDApr 21 2020

The risk of getting infected with COVID-19 disease is higher among healthcare workers who are in close contact with infected patients

A higher viral infective dose or more viruses a person comes in contact with can result in a higher risk of infection, and in some cases, the infection may be more severe compared to others. Studies have shown the same to be true for other viral infections such as influenza. An American study has also revealed that healthy volunteers exposed to a higher number of influenza viruses are at risk of worse symptoms compared to those who are not exposed.

    Why does it happen?

This, speculate experts, could be due to the higher number of viruses starting the infection and thus infecting more cells at the start of the disease process. A single cell infected by a virus becomes a virus factory and produced numerous viruses at the end of which the cell bursts open, releasing the daughter viruses into the body. Consequently, if more cells are affected at the start of it all, it can cause more severe disease. Even a small number of viruses can produce an infection, but the symptoms may be milder. Previous research has shown the norovirus infection that leads to vomiting and diarrhea can occur with just 18 viral particles

How does this relate to COVID-19?

The virus causing COVID-19 disease, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), is highly infectious, and the initial dose could be related to the severity of the infection. Researchers say that the load of the virus in the aerosols that lead to the infection and its proportionate effects on the severity of the disease can be determined only by “experimental challenge studies.” This means infecting healthy volunteers deliberately, which is ethically not permissible.

How can the viral load be determined?

According to researchers, viral load or the level of infective particles that cause the infection could be determined by a quantitative test or the standard international test. A load result between 0 and 40 can be obtained, and this is called the Ct value or threshold cycle.

If the Ct value is low (say 15), the levels of virus in the sample is said to be very high. If a sample has Ct of over 35, the viral load is low. The level of Ct correlates to disease severity.

  22. BGFC

I never said that, but when there are many any other things killing many many more people daily that are not classed as a problem, you have to question why all of a sudden C-19 is being called a pandemic, unless you follow the money of course and then you will have your answer.

    You take care

You’ve read something about it on the internet which you have chosen to believe because it suits your prejudices.
