Raith call out SFA plans for Appellate Tribunal

1262

You wonder if Ally McCoist rues the day he called for the public outing of members of the SFA Judicial Panel which imposed a player registration ban on his club.  One judge, one journalist and one football club, Raith Rovers, were soon outed.  Crossing the Fifers was a mistake.

Raith Rovers are now pointing out the same facts we have discussed here for months:

“We are also concerned that there has not as yet been an opportunity for clubs to receive legal advice from the SFL and/or debate the potential consequences on the smooth running of our league in the event that the Courts are asked to annull/strike down any of the corporate transactions that have led to the current position of Sevco Scotland Ltd as owners of certain assets of the Rangers oldco.

“Indeed, the position as regards the potential sanctions to be applied by the Scottish FA via its Appellate Tribunal has also still to be bottomed out.”

In short, Sevco’s ownership of Ibrox may be nullified by the courts and the SFA will be forced to subvert judicial oversight if it wants to guarantee Sevco participate in football next season.

While these concerns were only expressed online, the SFA were able to ignore the issue, but with Raith Rovers asking the questions Mr Regan will have to look SFL clubs in the eye and tell them what he’s going to do with Lord Carloway.

Lurgan 53

Dwyer O’Hagan, or Lurgan 53 as he was known here, passed away on Wednesday after an illness stretching back to last year.  Dwyer enjoyed our triumphs and defeats on the blog for many years and will be sadly missed by us all.  Our condolences to his family and friends.

Need to keep the focus on asset ownership / sale, and on the appellant tribunal now…….. They keep trying to slip things under the radar, but these 2 aspects are imminently critical ……… Then we have the Fraud Squad and dual contracts / EBT decision etc …..

George Connelly, keepie up pie,was it not at the Kiev friendly match,we got beat 1-0,big jock introduced a new attacking system,in training it produced results ,like 8-4 etc.,but didn’t work in that game.

I remember that experimental game vaguely.

Don’t think it was Kiev, Slovan bratislava comes to mind, but I’m usually wrong.

Remember big Yogi in midfield that day.

I have been going to the games since the mid fifties and have vague memories of Tully, Collins and MacPhil, all Celtic legends.

I will assume that you regard both McPhails ( John & Billy ) as legends, which of course they were.

One of my most enduring memories of fifties’ Celtic was in a Celtic V Clyde game at Celtic Park.

Billy, playing for Clyde, was the victim of an over-robust tackle from a Celtic defender ( Possibly Mick Haughney), As Billy crumpled to the ground,Big John ( Hooky) came running to the scene & briefly got involved in a scuffle with the errant defender, before they were quickly pulled apart by team-mates.

It is the only time I can remember two Celts brawling during a game.

Can any of our old-timers refresh me on the details ?

Time numbs the brain, but you know something, I think big Yogi played left back.

  7. The “quality street kids” were an awesome reserve team.

Dalgleish ,Macari, Connelly, Hay being the standout players.

  8. Martin Hayes,

Gave my old man a red neck, we where in McDonalds and I spotted him, I insisted in getting his autograph, my old man tried to show me the errors of my ways, I was young and “star struck”…..ha ha ha, to be that niave again, ignorant bliss.

The gunners fans even had a song for him…..

Martin haysey, woops a daisy, tra la la la la

Last genuinely world class player we had.

Anyways, I think Alistair was going to Slater’s to get his suit let out to accommodate his ever expanding waistline, as he comfort eats through the never endin’ ole Southside crisis.

I could be wrong but despite what many of us think, Carl actually had quite a good record between the sticks for us.

Sadly the fact that he was in goals for the 5-1 and 4-1 defeats at Ibrox in the 88′-89 season has left an indelible image on the minds of many Tims.

  12. Philbhoy - It's just the beginning! on

Did Martin Hayes not score one of the goals for Arsenal when they won the league at Anfield?

    Downhill fae there!

  13. The Connelly display was at halftime of the Kiev game 1966.

I seem to remember he went right round the outside of the pitch without letting the ball touch the ground once.

  14. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

It shows how things have changed for them, not so long ago if their manager had thrown away a 15 point lead he’d have been well out of the country, never mind the city, on the day of the Cacophonous Trudge.

When was the new wonder boy – Pat McMahon – on the scene? Was he a quality street kid or a wee bit later?

Michael Thomas got the winner, don’t think Hayes started in that game. Great night that night in North London..

  18. Just back from a shopping mall in Koh Samui Thailand where I spotted a little Thai girl of about 3 or 4 with her mum wearing the complete Celtic kit, top and shorts, I asked the mum if she was associted with Thai Tims and she said yes. I ran to my motorbike to get my camera and took some photos of the wee girl-she was so shy i struggled a bit. It just leaves one feeling so proud to see something like that in a remote part of Thailand.

Wouldn’t you put Henrik in the world class bracket?

I’d put McStay in there, in the full knowledge that I’m blinkered when it comes to Paul :-)

Was wondering what the attendance would be like for the next Scotland match at Hampden, maybe the official Tartan Kilt Army spokesperson can let us know their position on sporting integrity.

Perhaps , I have missed that.

  21. Heard that BJ thought that Vic Davidson was a better prospect than Kenny when they were kids and he thought John McCluskey the best prospect he had ever seen.

Vic Davidson had everything going for him as a footballer, bar just not being sufficiently “robust”

In other words,he was easily kicked off the ball, and with no protection from the MIBs,would just drift out of the game.

He would probably have been seen to his greatest effect in a league which allowed skill to flourish.

  24. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

HT -only as in ‘if you were picking a World XI’ ; Danny McGrain in his prime would be a starter at fullback.

If you were picking a bigger squad then there would of course be an argument for HL being in it, but I don’t know if he would start for Planet Earth XI V Rest of Universe.

Call me ole fashioned but I think terms like ‘world class’ are being cheapened; part of the rubbishness of ole modern life.

  25. Good morning form a very dreich Vaterland. God bless Joe McBride, met him on a couple of occasions, a lovely guy and a true gent. Also met his son young Joe when he was over here in Germany with Tommy Boyd for a youth tournament when they were coaching the young Bhoys.

Alan Smith / Michael Thomas ..

I remember there being an absurd rumor that the signing of Martin Hayes had been a case of mistaken identity —– Rumor was that Celtic had got Martin Hayes and Michael Thomas confused . Purveyors of said rumor always backed it with ” the fact ” that Arsenal had already agreed to sell Hayes to Swindon for a fraction of what Celtic paid .

Guff but like all rumors it spread and spread .

  27. Philbhoy - It's just the beginning! on

I think the term “world class” is often loosely used to describe many “great” players”.

Personally I believe Jinky and Henrik were world class Celts whom I saw play.

I also think the late great Bobby Murdoch was not far away.

No upset meant to anyone whose favourite I didn’t mention.
