Rallying call to supporters from the manager

1060

Neil Lennon’s interview with the official site was the second resounding State of the Club address from Celtic within a week.  The manager said:

”Clearly, in terms of where Rangers do play, that is now a matter for others to decide upon, it is something we have no control or influence over.

“We must now move on, and move on with a collective unity between the supporters and the club and the team.

“We need to stand strong, shoulder to shoulder and all work together to continue to move the club in the right direction.

“We want as many fans as possible to come back to the club and take their seat at Celtic Park and invest in the club as much as possible.

“We are now looking forward and not back, we have a vibrant young team, I want to progress this team as far as I can but we cannot do this without the fans’ support.

“There will be no slacking off or complacency, we have a lot to look forward to and that´s what we are preparing for, but I need to be very clear, we need our fans with us every step of the way.

“We cannot let outside negative influences dictate the mood at Celtic, we are very optimistic and we are very much looking forward to the season but we need our fans right with us”.

“It´s imperative we make inroads in Europe again this year and it would be nice to get through the qualifiers and into the Champions League group stages, but I´m under no illusion how difficult that´s going to be

“Everyone wants to play at the big table and that´s our whole focus. We go into this as champions and that is a fantastic feeling, so hopefully that will give the players an extra spring in their step.

“If we qualify then you never know where it will take us.”

I hear season ticket sales are up on the corresponding period last season but the message from Neil is clear, with the driver for high-value corporate ticket sales missing, Celtic are more dependent on ordinary supporters buying tickets than ever before.

This is your tax-and-supplier-paying-champions-today-and-next-season-Celtic.  You wouldn’t rather it any other way so get along and enjoy it.

“The problem for the board in explaining any loss of revenue is that it gives a load of ammunition to the msm and Regan and Doncaster.”

That argument is based on the premise that Regan & Doncaster are on opposing sides to Celtic whereas, if the loss of revenue projections are accurate, then Regan & Doncaster are doing precisely what the Board wants and such functionaries would not be proceeding in such a manner if they had not been tipped the wink by Celtic to do so.

‘No SPL clubs have spoke out against this Div1 stick up . The logical conclusion being that Doncaster must be working to instructions’

I agree entirely. Doncaster is working at the behest of all the SPL clubs

Reports this morning are that the SPL have ‘promised’ a 16 team SPL by 2015 to the SFL clubs ahead of their board meeting today as long as SevCo are put into Div 1

Sorry for butting in but I personally don’t think now is the time to downsize,(I know you are not advocating such either) I think now is the time to grasp the nettle and invest more into the team.

    Take a wee gamble.

To fund such investment would take guts, initiative, imagination and transparent leadership. i- friggin-e a published five year plan with structured ambition.

    Could such a model succeed?

It did for Fergus McCann. (regadless of the collectie scorn of the scottish media)

Now is the time to buy two or three 3/4 million pound players and slim down our squad by shedding players that just aren’t going to make it in the Scottish game.

The huns are dead long die the huns! Forget them.

I don’t read the Record. I believe the sale of KI, and maybe one other was inevitable regardless of the Sevco situation, because you cannot keep hold of ultra ambitious players in an SPL setting.

Neither of these situations, DR or Ki, have brought me to my position and I have not seen any other CQN posters cite these factors either.

The people on the other side of the argument may be wrong but you cannot dismiss us as stupid.

  5. If I was in charge I’d do my best to carry on as normal this season. Even if it meant quite drastic cuts at the end of the season at least people would have witnessed why it was required.

We’ve been told there’s a business plan that’s independent of them. Let’s see I’d that meant independent of their existence or simply independent of their spending ie no tit-for-tat transfer spend as sometimes happened in the past (although that was more from them).

I think we have, as always, a duty to maintain as strong a squad as we can afford. I don’t see it as downsizing if we make squad room for some of our promising youngsters to see if a few can follow James Forrest’s lead.

I would be gobsmacked if we do not sign a new experienced Centre Back but I would not favour, ever, a big money spend as a PR stunt to attract fans. Buy good players not just spend big is my preference.

  8. Tim Malone Will Tell on

If Celtic can sell Ki and either buy or promote a replacement from within whilst making a profit, they should do so.

Vastly over-rated player with the heart of a mouse.

  9. A disturbing rumour circulating Westminster today reaches me this evening which ties in to the rumours about the time spent by both Regan and Doncaster in London of late:

Salmond has agreed a potential £10m bail-out fund with Cameron and Alexander for SPL clubs which get into financial difficulty in next year as result of RFC, but only (and this won’t be made public) if RFC are given “realistic” position in league structure. Fund will be announced once RFC future in league is secure. My source (a Conservative MP) says that “nobody wants 50,000 hooligans roaming the streets during the referendum campaign”, “the collapse of Scottish football on our watch would be cataclysmic for us AND the SNP” and “it’s all just posturing, of course, if Rangers are back in then there is no need for the funds”.

Anyone care to ask Alex on twitter or some such if it is true?

    Cheers matey.

  10. garygillespieshamstring on

I have heard that the SFL asked dungcaster when a decision would be taken about Dundee or the pars for the extra place and he said the SPL might be prepared to go with 11 teams this season. The 12 th place being kept for sevco and he still hopes that sevco could yet play in the SPL next season.

Also they are hoping to allow the “dual contracts” issue to just slip off the radar.

    Ggh

    Morning all

My task for the day is to learn Hebrew, so that I can understand what Beram Kayal is saying on Twitter

בוקר טוב לכולם. כמה התגעגעתי להרגשה להיות אחרי משחק.

  12. setting free the bears:

Our squad is plump, plumper than that which is required to win the SPL.

Having a big squad for the sake of having a big squad is… well what?

I’m not advocating spending as a PR stunt, I’m advocating spending to advance the team and the club, if that attracts glorys who are not prepared to contribute to the clubs running costs, then so be it.

But I thought we had a world wide support of 3 million. Well three million certainly aren’t paying there way.

    I reiterate:

To fund such investment would take guts, initiative, imagination and transparent leadership. i- friggin-e a published five year plan with structured ambition.

Are there no men of vision at Celtic with the faith and soul of Brother Walfrid and Fergus McCann.

  13. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!!.. Ibrox belongs to the creditors on

Let’s just wait until Friday ……. All these rumours (and that’s all they are) etc are nonsense…..at the end of the day, I believe the SFL Clubs have the same integrity as the SPL Clubs…….they are listening to their fans…

And, bottom line, sevco don’t have the finances to enter Div1 …… They don’t have a team assembled, with the players they do have leaving one by one.

The Tory MP rumour is a cracker…….the Government have enough to do with their money at the moment, Including HMRC…..

As for Celtic needing sevco to survive / flourish …….. You are having a laugh. Celtic’s survival is in our hands, as it always has been, and it is in ‘good hands’

    Patience FGS

  14. setting free the bears

I know you don’t read the DR, *I read your posts* your argument is logical because we play in an actual football bankruptcy, soon to be morally so, come Friday’s rubber stamp.

Neil Francis is on record as saying all Celtic players have a price and KI Seung is

being courted, so may be the first of one or two to go, which will allow strengthening in more needy positions e.g. centre back.

Excellent asset management is a necessity, because we pay the tax man, and all creditors.

But Doncaster could insist that we give up our place to Sevco,or else the Champion’s League could be in danger of financial meltdown.

  16. If the rumours from Westminster are true, the SFA are bust. However, I kinda hope they are true if it forces FIFA to take an active interest in the corrupt SFA.

Have to start some work now so can’t get too much into the meat here.

I like vision. I also like it tempered with financial responsibility but, above all, I’d like some honesty from the board. Scottish football has a grubby feel to it at present and, while we are not primarily responsible for that, we are part of Scottish football at the present, an, until we leave, we must strive to be part of the solution whilst still doing what is best for Celtic.

    I’m off now.

From the ticket office…As such the Club has decided to keep the current pricing model in place and no refunds will be issued. I would like to thank you for your continued support of Celtic Football Club

On asking about a refund of the not-rangers games which a boy’s ST is charged at 125 rather than 50.

The extra 75 quid was specifically for the huns games.

That is not a fair response.

What was requested was not a cancellation, but a refund of the 75 to the base model ST because there were no huns games.

Standing shoulder to shoulder? Or ripping people off?

There is no Rangers, and Doncaster,Regan & Sevco are running out of time.

The SPL commences on the 4th of August 2012,1st Division and 3rd Division fixtures begin on the 11th of August 2012.

  22. Hector why not just cancel and re-buy at 50. The club are required to refund (minus an admin fee) and it should be the full amount as no games have been played. So you’d still save some of the money.

Burghbhoy- there are a few bars which will show the games, you may need to ask the barman to put it on in a corner , as the big screens will probably show the EPL.

There’s a couple of bars in the wee shopping precinct opposite the Athena Royal Beach hotel where I’ve watched games in the past.
