Rangers Newco cause picked up by media

1266

The Daily Record today report: “Record Sport understands Rangers would fight tooth and nail against any move to impose more than the statutory 10-point penalty” in the event “the Ibrox side have to start again under a new name”, presumably if the existing company ceases to exist.

If the Record are, in fact, reporting Rangers’ position accurately, this is the first salvo in their campaign to gain control of the consequences of a corporate failure.

The Record go on to say: “Clubs who can’t exit administration by a CVA must hand over their assets to a new entity and after shares [in the SPL]are transferred to a new company agreement has to be reached with the SPL over a return to the top flight”.

The glaring observations from this aspiration is, of course, that agreement does not have to be reached with the SPL over a return to the top flight, and that clubs who cannot exit administration by a CVA (Creditors Voluntary Agreement) must dispose of their assets to the benefit of the unsecured creditors.

The debate is framed by the newspaper to suggest a range of outcomes of between 10-25 points is possible for Rangers Newco FC to pick-up the SPL shares and league position of the existing Rangers FC, with a 25 point deduction being wholly unpalatable to the new company.

There must be absolutely no presumption that a newly formed company, who happen to own Ibrox, are entitled to parachute into the SPL ahead of the current Scottish Football League members, or ahead of an existing SPL team in a relegation spot.  In the event of a club failure the league can and, if necessary, must complete the season with 11 teams only.

Scottish football cannot establish a system whereby an oligopoly can vote on a system which stiffs creditors and prejudices competitors outside of the oligopoly.  Football across the world is trying to clean up its reputation, we cannot allow Scotland to become a laughing stock.  Let your club know your feelings on how they should vote when the time comes. It’s time for fans of Celtic, Aberdeen, Dundee United, St Mirren, Hibernian, Motherwell, Dunfermline and others to make their voices heard.

Yes it had everything including not one but two Celtic like late comebacks.

I would recommend that anyone with the chance to watch the game tonight does so.

  5. Interesting debate/fight call it what you will on the possible demise of the quintessentially british club,

    Heres a take on this,

my mrs and father in law are both rangers supporters, both in my opinion are decent people, no bigotry no hunguffery, honest football supporters,

Im sure amongst the followers of rangers there are many more like them,

both are devastated at the current plight of their club, both are extremely concerned as to what the future of their club may hold……… if indeed it has a future,

best case scenario for them would appear to be administration, worst case liquidation,

Do I have any sympathy for rangers fc?

No not one iota, they played their cards and ended up with a busted flush,

but I do have sympathy for the genuine supporter who finds the club they support staring into the abyss, not so long since albeit under extremely different circumstances we were the genuine supporters who were in a similar position, the club we love was in danger of being taken by the bank for monies owed, the monies owed in today’s footballing debt terms being ever so slightly less……….

the sympathy we received from the footballing fraternity was minimal, the understanding of the media non existent,

those were dark dark days indeed

  6. Guys, no matter what happens, enjoy your weekend and cheer on the Hoops tomorrow.

Sometimes the journey is more enjoyable than reaching your destination.

  7. Celtic without Rangers, Ranger without Celtic.

Either way, lose this, and Scottish Football is dead.

If it goes the way some of the fundimentalists on here want it to go then your crowds will drop season after season, no competitition, no TV money, no excitement, nothing.

And your board know it as well.

  8. Snake Plissken on

When Celtic last won the championship and the efforts were being made en masse to extend the season for the masqueraded benefit of Scottish football but really so they could cheat their way to 4 trophies, Peter Lawwell said that any further extension would create a question over “the integrity of the competition”.

Celtic sit at such another crossroads today. The integrity of the game in Scotland is now in question IF and I stress IF Rangers are allowed to waltz back in in their new form (minus their history of course as it is wiped out with the old name). Peter Lawwell made me proud when he said that back in 2008. It was the most important thing he has ever done as CEO and something for which I loved him for doing. That is what I expect from Celtic. They must know how much money Celtic has lost because the animals have cheated their way to every trophy they bought with other peoples’ money and for that outrage, Celtic must act on behalf of their fans and customers.

The other clubs who play in Scotland should realize something pronto – no Rangers in the top flight increases their chances of winning immensely. I harken back to an era when the Premier league was genuinely competitive – the 1980’s. Celtic , Aberdeen, Dundee United and even Hearts challenged for the first 6 titles of that decade and many times they challenged each other in the same seasons. Matches were won and lost home and away, players were produced who went on to play at higher levels in England none more so than at Aberdeen and even at Celtic also – Archibald, McGhee, Strachan, Black, McInally, McLair and even Judas all emerged because they got game time and there was genuine competition. Other sides produced players who moved to other Scottish clubs and 4-5-1 was non-existant and anti-football was the preserve of San Marino and their likes.

Then the beast came into Scotland, created hammer-throwing and the rest copied it and 30 years on Scottish football is dying because of their spending what they couldn’t afford and players who cannot play but who can kick lumps out of the opposition is allowed by our impartial referees who apply the rules when they feel like it.

I want a return to the 1980’s. I want to go to games expecting but not knowing if we are getting a game. I want to see the teams in the east challenging and I want prices dropped at Scottish grounds to see punters actually going to watch the game again. I want young managers trying to play football the right way. John Hughes, Gordon Strachan, Mark McGhee and Tony Mowbray were doing this and then Jeffries, The Cardigan and a whole host of anti-football peddlers who mainly were from the dark side brought back kick and rush and physical football – Scotland kicked out talent and replaced it with brawn again and we keep on dropping down the rankings – in 2008 remember Aberdeen played Bayern Munich in Europe AFTER CHRISTMAS and Scotland had 3 teams in Europe after Christmas for the first time since the 1980’s (albeit one team was the anti-football merchants drawing their way to a UEFA cup final and leaving a trail of destruction in their wake). Since 2008 the game has been getting worse in Scotland and only a radical shake up will snap us out of the mess we find ourselves in.

Make no bones about it. Rangers should most definitely be sent to the gallows for cheating to win titles and cups and the WHOLE of Scottish football should drag them there and put the noose around their necks for the money they have cost the other sides in Scotland AND THE TROPHIES.

Leaving aside their bought 9iar and starting with Advocaat’s time:

Celtic are due 2 league championships and 1 Scottish cup

Aberdeen are due a Scottish cup

Motherwell and St Johnstone are due a League cup as finalists

McLeish’s wins with Advocaat’s team should also hand Celtic, Dundee, Motherwell and Ayr United further silverware and this is all before you get into the number of teams who missed out on Champion’s league and UEFA cup qualifiers.

Make no mistake anyone reading this, their moronic fans will sleepwalk into this but our fans have our eyes wide open and by God our board had better have too.

As Shatner said in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered country when realising the Klingons were facing death “let them die”. They deserve it for the years of pain they have caused us, their bigotry and the hatred they cause and will again. They are the focal point for so much that makes Scotland a bad place and cutting them down to size is the least they deserve for all the things they have ever done. Bigotry, hate, supremacist nonsense defines them. To paraphrase Alasdiar Gray in Lanark – It’s all they’ve given the world, it’s all they’ve given themselves.

Celtic have given far more to the game of football and its enhancement than they ever will. We have given more to Scotland in terms of prestige than they ever have or will thanks to Jock Stein and Lisbon and the dominance in Europe. Big Jock taught Alex Ferguson how to be a manager and look at how he has made Manchester United. Kenny Dalglish is still the greatest player to have played in England bar none, Seville was an unbelievable exhibition of what Celtic are. The other mob have nothing like that, just a mickey mouse cup given to them in a toilet and a string of riots and trouble wherever they go. Their history is shortly to be erased and put in the dustbin where it belongs. Do not let them countenance sliming their way straight back into the SPL Celtic. Wee Fergus got most things right and when he said “It’s not just a football club” he was right again.

Think on it and act on it Celtic.

Over to you Mr Lawwell and Mr Desmond. Don’t let short term thinking be your downfall forever.

  9. People on here and other sites have to get the message out to the board

    NO DEALS WITH THE HUNS

If the board want to meekly accept being cheated and then conspire to bring the cheats back in for the sake of some money – then they deserve everything they get from now on!

Do they really think that having allowed the huns to escape with hardly a slap on the wrist – they will then get an even deal off the SPL and SFA in the future?

We might as well pay our ST money directly to the huns!

Should the board acquiesce in such a craven accomodation of the huns – then as a shareholder and ST holder – my decision will be simply to walk away

    As the old adage goes

    “Fool me once,shame on you

Fool me twice, shame on me”

    No appeasement of the huns

It was was wrong in the 1930s – it will be doubly wrong today!

To endorse the “decent R supporter” is a sell out.

Bitter against them and their ilk? You bet I am.

I’m suspicious of this annual smoke screen and hope Celtic maintain the good streak of form they have shown in Europe and in the SPL in recent weeks with another tomorrow.
