Real story of football in Scotland in Fifa corruption shadow

706

This morning world football has plenty reason to be ashamed of itself. US prosecutors yesterday charged 16 Fifa officials, on top of the 14 charged earlier this year. As well as taking bribes and kick-backs, it is alleged money designated for charitable causes such as the relief of natural disasters, were siphoned off by Fifa executives. In recent years we’ve seen how revenue from charity games have been hijacked by club officials to pay bills, or perhaps fund signing bids for Daniel Cousin.

Tomorrow you are going to see the most Ethical Football Club in the World do its thing. Thousands of you will support the Foundation Christmas Appeal by putting money in buckets as you enter the ground.

That money will do incredible things.

It will support the Scottish Refugee Council, as they aid some of the world’s most vulnerable who have recently arrived in Scotland.
people_make_glasgow_article

It will support the volunteers who run The Invisibles,  who help homeless charities in Glasgow by providing sleeping bags, clothing and toiletries for rough sleepers.

It will support the Glasgow City Mission, in their work with vulnerable adults and families with disadvantaged pre-school children.

It will support the incredible work of the Wayside Club, who provide food, shower, shaving and First Aid facilities to Glasgow’s homeless 365 days a year.

It will support Loaves and Fishes, who open their doors to people who need clothes, toiletries and food.

It will support Glasgow East Women’s Aid, who work with women, children and young people affected by domestic abuse.

And it will support the Salvation Army, who have been a lifeline for countless thousands for longer than Celtic have been in existence.
Salvation Army

The bar on ethics in football is not set particularly high, few clubs have a social mission as their core value. None do it like Celtic, the most Ethical Football Club in the World – bar none.

This is the story of football in Scotland 2015, no matter what happens in Switzerland or the Concafa region. You should be proud of your part in this great story.  Let’s make it a good one tomorrow – and let people know this is happening tomorrow.

Use them, just don’t eat anything :'(

Honestly the food is more than likely safe, as I say to the wife “enough pints kill all the bad bacteria ” but the modern soy latte crowd well they are, in the vernacular, fecked.

  2. Herbo, I do understand that many people are under very serious pressure coming up to the Christmas period.

I have no easy words to soothe your problems.

I know you have all heard this one before but it is true none the less as my dearly departed Mum, would aay

    “Count your Blessings”.

I know you mentioned children and they not understanding the economics of life, but I know you would not be without them, coz they are the greatest blessing of them all, PS When counting the ol’ blessings don’t forget being a Celt.

Seriously my friend, if you need to talk there are plenty ears here and plenty of shoulders to lean on. Either on the blog or by e-mail.

    You are not walking alone.

Cheers for the advice Owen! I’m a great believer in a good dram, straight, after any dodgy food.

I remember one summer evening walking from the boat across the sands in Uist and my cousin showing us how to take two cockles out of the sand, matching the two points of the heart shape together and twisting them. One poor cockle would open, whereupon we had to devour the wee thing inside. We had Quite a few. Relating the story the next day to a more reserved local, he asked, ” did you have dram after?” Well, the obvious, “Does a bear pay taxes?”…answered that.

Thing is, I’ve always wondered if we’d have been all right anyway.

In, Ireland anyway, Ryanair have reduced their “fresh” load and increased their “frozen” stock. All beer, wine and spirit loads remain the same, thankfully.

  7. A long time ago in a lifetime far, far away I used to work in an abattoir. Horrible work I will admit, but when you are young and the dole is £24 and 80 hours work gets you €67 after tax and NI, then you learn to live with it, however I have had an aversion to lamb since. Seeing 2000 of the bassas a day was bad enough but what clinched it was talking to a Ministry Vet as he used his blue stamp on an animal going past me and asking “what does that mean?” “not fit for export” says he. Guess what stamp every lamb I ever saw in a butchers window had?

  8. Herbo

It’s no that long ago I would be grubbing about for a few coppers down the back of the couch, no that is a lie, we didn’t even have a couch, or waiting for people bringing their garbage down to the tip at Grangemouth, you got lucky now and again, but we got lucky, we left the sectarian shit hole that is scotland, never looked back, left with feck all, Ireland welcomed me with open arms, gave me a job, gave me freedom, gave me my pride back, gave me the opportunity to look after my family, I will die happy knowing that Ireland saved me, why the feck I left I will never know, but I did, I now live in a cave in the Spanish mountains in hicksville, middle class, don’t think so.

    Stay strong mi amigo

  10. Nobody outside the Celtic supporters gives two shits about the Celtic Foundation, the collections outside Celtic stadium, the worthwhile charities, the homeless, the foodbanks, the hungry, the poor or any other disadvantaged group.. no one! No one gives a shit!!

When was the last time ANYONE picked up a newspaper and read of the work done by the club or the foundation.. No? None?? Correct, no one gives a shit.

We think we are.. how does P67 put it? “The most ethical Club in the World”

We live in a masonic world full of masonic teachings and masonic laws, and for anyone to think differently is nieve stupidity.

The only tabloid header is.. who will sevco sign includes the January window.

We allow it, we do nothing and we accect it.

Celtic thrashed 5-0 by chelsea in the development league

Worse news is derk Bo ricter was Substituted at half time with the hoops 4-0 down. .. apparently ( you would never guess but ) derk picked up an injury so that might keep him out of the trip to Turkey next week

    ——————-

Chelsea have had a shit hot youth set up for years now.

Remember watching Chris Kiwomya son destroy Man U youngsters (think Nick Barmby’s son played for Utd).

Don’t think any of them have made the top leagues yet (they’d be 20 I’d guess now).

Often wonder if youth football is even worth it.

Reposted not long after last years AGM… so much has changed….

In todays CQN AGM missive from Paul67 we are reminded how many depend on the charity and humanity of Celtic supporters. In the same breath, we are reminded that the board, however, are immune from such charitable thoughts (especially from the 55% of Celtic supporters who are wankers).

Celtic PLC have a business to run, exec pockets to line and masses to fool.

They may pay a LW to some of their employees but they will not become a LW employer.

I mean what if the LW increases?

Celtic PLC have a business to run, exec pockets to line and masses to fool.

Also some bumph about res12 -2013. Any progress along those lines will interfere

with the Old Firm bigot pound on the horizon.

Celtic PLC have a business to run, exec pockets to line and masses to fool.

    Nae change there then.

    Social values?

I have said manys a time that Celtic are akin to a modern day Jewish club playing in nazi Germany, most folks think I am mad for saying it, but I believe it with all my heart, scotland is a sectarian hell hole, given the chance they would do to us what they did to the Jews, and it could happen, never say never, there are killings happening the world over and nobody is giving a shit.

The genuinely charitable don’t boast of their charitable works.

    The word gets around,however.

Looking for complimentary comments about Celtic in the Scottish media ?

    No chance.

Celtic supporters aren`t their preferred demographic.

    They aim for the majority.

    Owen,

I gave up on the shooting myself when I was 14 – shot a milker rabbit and had to “execute” it while it was squirming at my feet. Haven’t shot anything since. I’m not saying I think it’s wrong to kill animals to eat – I just didn’t enjoy doing it.

So since then I buy it in a butcher shop. I don’t have to kill them myself.

I don’t have to. I would if I HAD to. Going a funny place with this.

I’ve never understood people who do this as a sport.

One thing to kill an animal for food and money to support their families…but for “fun / entertainment? Na, I’m lost there..

YET – the abatoir – never been to one but….I’m reminded of the old vegetarian Adolf Hitler quotation ” anyone who has been to an abattoir would never eat meat again. Take it he didn’t extend the same sympathy to the human race.

    So what to do?

    I don’t know!

  19. Paul67 gives us this, free, platform to discuss anything and everything but despite, or more likely because of, his very light hand in regulating the site some insist on insulting him.

Now when I was being reared that was called “bad manners”, instead nowadays it’s called free speech. Even if it is still done in an I’ll mannered way

My mate got a job in an abattoir many years back, he had to sweep up the leftovers (after the butchering) down into grates, which were collected then minced up to be sold as meat :O)

He lasted a day before calling it quits.

Still eats meat (it’s far to tasty :o) mind but you’ve got to be a special type of person that can do that and still eat it
