Real story of football in Scotland in Fifa corruption shadow

706

This morning world football has plenty reason to be ashamed of itself. US prosecutors yesterday charged 16 Fifa officials, on top of the 14 charged earlier this year. As well as taking bribes and kick-backs, it is alleged money designated for charitable causes such as the relief of natural disasters, were siphoned off by Fifa executives. In recent years we’ve seen how revenue from charity games have been hijacked by club officials to pay bills, or perhaps fund signing bids for Daniel Cousin.

Tomorrow you are going to see the most Ethical Football Club in the World do its thing. Thousands of you will support the Foundation Christmas Appeal by putting money in buckets as you enter the ground.

That money will do incredible things.

It will support the Scottish Refugee Council, as they aid some of the world’s most vulnerable who have recently arrived in Scotland.
people_make_glasgow_article

It will support the volunteers who run The Invisibles,  who help homeless charities in Glasgow by providing sleeping bags, clothing and toiletries for rough sleepers.

It will support the Glasgow City Mission, in their work with vulnerable adults and families with disadvantaged pre-school children.

It will support the incredible work of the Wayside Club, who provide food, shower, shaving and First Aid facilities to Glasgow’s homeless 365 days a year.

It will support Loaves and Fishes, who open their doors to people who need clothes, toiletries and food.

It will support Glasgow East Women’s Aid, who work with women, children and young people affected by domestic abuse.

And it will support the Salvation Army, who have been a lifeline for countless thousands for longer than Celtic have been in existence.
Salvation Army

The bar on ethics in football is not set particularly high, few clubs have a social mission as their core value. None do it like Celtic, the most Ethical Football Club in the World – bar none.

This is the story of football in Scotland 2015, no matter what happens in Switzerland or the Concafa region. You should be proud of your part in this great story.  Let’s make it a good one tomorrow – and let people know this is happening tomorrow.

Like most, many of them farmers, I stayed away from that end of the line. My only complaint was with the “substandard” meat remaining in Ireland. The blue ministry stamp might only have meant a vet had excised an arthritic knuckle etc but it automatically excluded it fromantic export. Other more serious problems got the same mark.

I’ve run a foodbank for years, long before it was ‘ fashionable’.. All my life I have done charitable work.. never looked for applause or recognition or acknowledgement.. so no need to tell me about ‘Charity’, I’ve been doing it since I was a young adult.

What gets me are those on this blog, in the minority, hiding behind the Celtic Foundation, looking for gratitude for dropping a can of soup into a bag and claiming ‘Celtic Foundation” status.. yet will not raise a voice against cheating, corruption, lies and theft.

You cant buy ethics or morals with a tin of beans.

Wasting your time.If its not the Board,or Scotland,or calling for fans to boycott Celtic Park,he then turns on Paul.I have no idea why he stays on this site.

Whats worse, the clown getting plaudits from some on here last night.Tony Donnelly gets slaughtered for supporting Celtic. This idiot gets plaudits for slagging, and calling for fans to stay away and cripple the club.

    Owen,

I understand where you’re coming from.

On a relate subject, I remember Frasres the Butchers in Dingwall at the height of the BSE issue, having a sign in the shop saying, ” All the meat sold in this shop is and has always been meat raised in the Black Isle specifically for meat consumption.” Meaning bullocks…

I Quoted this to a colleague at the time – who happens now to be a good friend – knowing he was the son of a dairy farm in the North of Scotland – and asked him ” I thought all meat was raised for meat consumption? He replied, to my amazement at the time – that 80% of the beef sold in supermarkets in the UK was from, “clapped out dairy cows.”. The dairy cowas were the herds getting fed the big business “high protein” feed. The high protein came from meat! Effectively making the dairy cows cannibals – eating the brains and spinal chords of their own kind. Which is how the rogue protein which became BSE developed. Funny though – amount of pies I’ve eaten in my life – I’m still herem

I am shaking my head vigorously at you.You come on here every night spouting your religious diatribe, then slag the SNP.For what?.Not voting to bomb Syria?.Maybe you support the party that 67 of their members supported the bombing.Maybe you support the party that abstains on every vote, which only backs up the Tories,in their assault on the weakest in society. At least the SNP get their asses into Westminster and oppose the Tories.Or maybe you are a Tory.

  14. All day the wind and rain has been pounding my window. Can’t stop thinking about people sleeping rough tonight. Would it not be possible for Celtic to open one of the concourses to people like that? At least they would be dry, And some hot food?

I honestly don’t think it is.

Just a few miles over the water there was and is civil war, and whats to say that it won’t spread into dear old scotland, the infrastructure is all in place, the media, the judiciary, the police, the government are all alligned against the Irish Catholic community, all it need is a spark, why do you think the sfa and all n sundry are so hell bent on stopping the hun going bust again, there will be carnage, it may well be the spark.

I hope it’s not, but you never know.

Wars start for the most crazy of reasons, scotland is nothing in the grand scheme of things, a few Catholics are collateral damage, nobody will give a shit, and if you can put your hand on your heart and tell me that it will never happen, well can you ?

I’m sure the folks in the north thought than when the brits came over to protect from being burned out of house and home, they never envisaged the tables would turn against them a few short months later.

So, please forgive me for not thinking it’s ott.
