Reason to hope for the remaining fixtures

175

The anticipated return to action of Reo Hatate is a reminder of the dangers with international breaks, which starkly contrasts to this particular break.  Reo has been out injured since being on Asian Cup duty with Japan in January.  He is now at Lennoxtown, with Kyogo (out of the international picture, bizarrely) and Daizen Maeda (as Japan’s game against North Korea was cancelled).

Callum McGregor is my regular concern at these times, but the captain misses out, another recuperating, as is Cameron Carter-Vickers, who was omitted from the USA squad by agreement.  So too is CCV’s central defensive partner, Liam Scales.

Alistair Johnston came through Canada’s win over Trinidad & Tobago at the weekend, leaving Brendan Rodgers with the rarest weeks to train, practice and build fitness among his regular starters.

This is normal for many Premiership clubs during international breaks.  Players who need rest, get it, those who would benefit from endurance or fitness training, can indulge.  If you are looking for positive indications for the remaining figures, this is it.

Eurochamps67, Alex McKillop’s Funeral Mass is at St Peter’s Hamilton (ML3 8LL) at 10:00 on Wednesday 3 April, an hour later at South Lanarkshire Crematorium (G72 0TL) and thereafter at Carrigan’s in Blantyre (G72 9RN).  Alex made friends on here for close to 20 years, I know many will be there next week.

  1. CELTIC MAC on 26TH MARCH 2024 7:44 PM

Norn still using GTSK. Roundly booed

*I always thought that Danny Boy aka Londonderry Air was their NA

    From last thread .

My lowest ebb’s as a Celtic fan were losing a Scottish cup semi final to Motherwell ,in a midweek match at Hampden .

I can still recall the feeling of helpless ness ,when we brought on the teenage Gerry Briton to save the match ,and then watched his Bambie like legs ,and foppish head ,blown around that massive pitch .

On the way home to Leven ,not a word was spoken during our car journey .

A Leven Tim ( Stevie Kirk) helped put us to the sword that night .

Then there was the League cup final defeat at Ibrox to Raith Rovers .

A good friend of mine and a big Tim (Shaun Dennis ) helped put us to the sword that night .

I had booked into the Grovesnor hotel at the West end .A night out up Byers Rd celebrating was planned .

I watched the match from the Copland Rd stand .

We could hear the Raith fans celebrating after the match ,as I walked back along Edmiston drive with my 13 year old nephew .

Not a word was spoken amongst the funereal thousands around me .

One man then commented that this what it was like at Johnny Thomsons funeral .

I was so gutted that I decided to take the train home to Fife ,with my nephew .

We changed trains at Haymarket for Kirkcaldy .

    Just our luck .

Scotrail decided to halt all the trains to Kirkcaldy for an hour ,to wait on the Raith Rovers fans .

The journey from Haymarket to Kirkcaldy was soul destroying .

I had taken a holiday on the Monday .

    Just as well .

It was the Monday morning that I realised that my car was parked at the Grovesnor Hotel .

I had to take the train back through to get it .

Ironically my mates went to Mc Nees showbar at Eglington toll ,after the defeat .

They still say it was one of their best ever Celtic nights .

Unrepentant fenians at their best .

    But topping all that .

The most dejected I have ever felt was during that 4-0 defeat at Aybrokes ,and the journey home .

Them waving their ten’s and twenties, whilst mocking us to “ no fu****g money “

It was 4-0 going on 10 as they toyed with us .

    Van Bronkhurst running the show.

I can remember as we passed the showcase cinema at Coatbridge ,going along the M8.

We had tuned the radio into an English station to avoid having to listen to the Darnel being triumphant on the radio.

The radio cut to Mark Lawrenson for comment .

A friend and ex colleague of our manager that day Kenny Dalglish.

Lawrenson stated that it would take Celtic 10 years to catch Rangers ,if indeed catching them was possible .

The sense of supremacy at Ayebrokes was palpable.

That summer we lost Mark Viduka.

Then along came the blessed Martin O’Neill .

There was around 8 competitive matches between that 4-0 defeat and us grubbing them 6-2.

The Darnel broke their transfer record in signing Flo .

We suffered another heavy defeat, 5-1 at Ayebrokes .

    We signed Lenny .

We finished that season with the 3-0 win with Henrik getting his 50th goal that season and Lubo wiping every memory of Van Bronkhurst from my mind .

To this day MON remains my hero .

He dismantled the most expensive Hun side ever assembled .

A treble would be ours ,whilst competing against a very formidable Hun .

8 matches Mon took to smite them ,not the 10 years that the experts predicted .

Dermot Desmond was responsible for bringing MON to the club .

It remains unknown what Gus Hiddink would have achieved .

When motivated and engaged Dermot has worked miracles for Celtic .

In my early years of attending Celtic matches the Darnel did a treble in 1976 .

77 a Celtic double .78 a Darnel treble ,It took the 4-2 win in 79 ( my fav match ) to stop another Darnel treble .

In the 80’s we saw the emergence of the great Aberdeen and DUFC sides .

We could not be complacent at any stage .

    88 our historic double .

Then The Darnel 9 in a row .

I can assure you that there has never been a period where I have felt complacent or could be judged as being entitled .

My guess is that most Celtic fans of my vintage will feel the same.

There is also no comfort in being correct when I have expressed concern about Celtic not maximising their opportunities.I have just as often been incorrect and savoured the success.

Sir Alex Ferguson had the attitude that Kojo of this blog used to often express .

“What have you done for me lately?”

I don’t feel that our fans are entitled .

They just ever want to lose .

  3. Massive jersey pull there at a Wales corner.Ref and VAR not interested. Not even a check.

Surely notWhen this season. you think of how many points they have got in the last few minutes for that offence,

  4. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

Phew, thought they were bringing on Greg Taylor for Robertson. Fergusson on instead.

  5. Patterson – not sure why Clarke persists with him. I though he would use these friendlies to look at other players.

  6. Wales goal ruled out for offside, only saw one tv replay, thought Davies was in line, though the linesman flagged straight away. 0-0 HT

  7. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

Tee hee, Sconny Botland booed off as the NI fans wave their flegs. They’ll think they’re at Mordor.

  8. Prestonpans bhoys on

Dreadful game, deflected goal with 13% possession gives Nord the lead. Most of their songs sound like coming out of Ibrox, come to think of it most of their fans probably do.

Think I’ll give the second half a miss….

  9. glendalystonsils on

Ex hun wonderkid Patterson has been Norn Irn best player so far .

As an aside ……. I wonder how many of those in the Norn Irn end singing GSTQ are actually

native Scots of an Ibrox persuasion ? Poor conflicted, confused souls .

  10. in a pure random.

i am researching my family tree, whisper it, i am half english and spent a lot of time in cumbria at my grandas cousins during the 70s.

there was a family legend that the great grandfather, old percy had been mates with Stan Laurel as a very young boy.

the old fella was born in a place called ulverston close to barrow. doing the research i found out he was born in a house across the back alley from the grandparents of a certain arthur stanley jefferson, aka stan laurel.

the world is a small place right enough.

the world is a small place right enough.😁🍀

  15. tontine tim

The travesty is not ‘Loch Lomond’ itself, one of Scotland’s finest songs, most often misunderstood.

No, the travesty is RunRig’s version of it, and coming from Skye they should have known better

  16. That Eejit Tam Mc Manus, alleged writer, sain Calmac will find it difficult to get back in the Scotland team.

    That right,Aye.

  17. Didnae know that bully gilmur was on our books, albeit for 3 months, before joining the huns

that england goalkeeper, maybe joey should turn his ignorance on to hom.

    lukaku thinks he is lubo.

and how come every level of england games is on council tv somewhere, from the unders to the ladies teams.

  19. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

Shop window Christie playing at his Covid season best tonight.

I’m sure he’ll have a staring role in my nightmare later.

  20. During those teenage years, Laurel lived in the southside of the city in a tenement flat at 17 Craigmillar Road with there to also be a plaque mounted to the wall on the block by Historic Environment Scotland to commemorate where he once lived.

  21. Prestonpans bhoys on

Put the Scotland game back on as have nothing else to watch. It’s not improved from the first half 🙄
