Resurrection of defensive bedrock, work done in your name

980

The bedrock Celtic built their record-breaking league win on last was the defence; we went months without conceding, serious chances for opponents were written up lustily.  A large part of the summer shambles was the contrasting nature of our defensive play; Legia Warsaw scored six but they also missed a hatful.

While our results have improved in recent weeks it’s the defensive record which has shown the most marked up-lift.  We’ve conceded only twice in seven games, a ricochet against Astra and that goal against Hamilton.  By contrast, we kept only a solitary clean sheet in the seven games prior to this run.

On the surface, we looked shaky in defence for the latter parts of the game against Inverness on Saturday, but while there is still work to do, the defence can be encouraged that they are able to withstand sustained pressure – and that they can rely on their keeper, when necessary.

A couple of action points for you:

Magners are donating £18,300 to the Celtic Foundation.  The money will go to the four areas the Foundation work: Health, Equality, Learning and Poverty, in proportion to how fans nominate those areas.  To participate, tweet @MagnersUK with one of the following hashtags: #Health, #Equality, #Learning or #Poverty.

Magners have been a great help to our campaign to build a fourth CQN school kitchen for Mary’s Meals in recent weeks, so I’m keen we support and encourage this initiative.  £18,300 is a huge bonus for the Foundation, they will do great work with it.

The Foundation are full on with their Christmas strategy at the moment.  This year money will be split between those who look after the homeless and vulnerable, and individual families – identified by grassroots organisations, to help them buy gifts for kids and put a Christmas meal on the table.

This work is being done in your name, so make sure you’re aware of it.

The inaugural Foundation ladies’ lunch event, Ghirls for Good, takes place on Saturday 13 December, proceeds towards the Christmas Appeal.  If you qualify……. Book here.

Another thought provoking post – many happy memories that don’t involve deidco. Also agree we only truly appreciate victory when we have experienced the rancid taste of defeat…

  3. I have not enjoyed one bit what WGS has been saying these last few days.

To manipulate football so biggest clubs are in top division is absolute garbage.

It also seems he has not learned much regarding society in Scotland while being the manager of Celtic football club.

He has been revered on here………these last few days have done absolutely nothing for his reputation…

Astounded that more has not been said !!………Just glad it wasnt MON that uttered such rubbish…

Best post I’ve read here for a while.

Far from scrambling for a ticket I’ll be looking to book a couple of nights away from Glasgow that weekend.

I will watch it on TV if course as I want to see my team reach a cup final but the baggage that goes with playing a team calling itself “Rangers” is of no interest to me.

No problem. Posts are often misunderstood on here.It is often difficult to convey the mood with the written word . For instance, Canamalar`s `65` comment , to me, was funny but Tony D found it a bit offensive. Anyway, it is a cheerio from me for now.

As I’ve already told you the living wage wasent brought up, so no one seem concerned, and neither was I, pity you couldent make it, but then again maybe you had some out of town business thing to do like when you disappeard of the face of the earth when resolution 12 was being brought up at the last AGM when some said you bottled it, me being one of them . Karma is a wonderful thing, you bottled it and everyone knows you bottled it.

MO’N cut loose from Celtic when Lawwell arrived.

MO’N was at the WC in the summer and was sitting on the panel were he described his levels of achievement in the game

Winning the European Cup with Nottingham Forest.

    Managing in the EPL.

    Not a mention of Celtic?

I guess that, like myself…MO’N is pissed-off with Lawwell’s Celtic.

That was never said or posted by me , never, but if you have it post it, you don’t have it and you can’t post it, I never brought up the old game you started it, scroll back, your spin is useless and pathetic, as I said at the time if I had posted that here, I would have been out on my arse, and rightfully so, people who know me, know I tell the truth, you? They can make their mind, I honestl do not care.

    Great post sir.

My big fear is for my children and grandchildren. I do not want them to suffer the bigotry, hatred and assaults that I endured growing up in Glasgow. Wish this game was never to take place. I have enjoyed the sanitised Scottish fitba these last 3 years.

    TD..,

You told us all you were going to bring it up, so if it wasn’t brought up its because you filled your man nappy.

As for me, as you know I’ve been in Qatar for the last two years, I actually started the resolution from Qatar, while you spent all your time sitting in Glasgow trying to destroy the resolution and decrying everyone that got involved, none of whom I might add filled their man nappies when the time came for action and doing what they said they’d do.

  15. I didn’t spend any time destroying the resolution, and fine well you know that, I was for it, but not for the messengers of which you where one and that was long before you disappeared to where ever you went, it’s now in the hands of secrecy and the people who gave you their proxies know now what they knew then SFA. I was right all along with what I said so far, prove me wrong, and don’t give me the secret society crap either.

I enjoyed the CL highlights last night, not so much for the goals but for the excellent punditry. What a breath of fresh air compared to the biased turgid stuff we get up here. I could listen to Glenn Hoddle all day. Not only was he some player, but he knows the game and says the right things, taking to task the Liverpool manager, without being too insulting. Him, Merson and Hamann didnt miss Rodgers (strange team) and Wenger (not his fault).

To be fair though, SKY do carry some crackers, Tanner being the worst by a mile.

You’ve been very busy this morning on the blog. In hyperactive mode:-)) Your work on Resolution 12 is a fine legacy for you to boast about in your dotage. Anyone who decries it has chips for brains.

  20. LionRoars, my criticism of Spiers isnt hypocritical.

Some of his articles have been praiseworthy over the years.

  21. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

Ah, so we’ll move on from you filling your man nappy when the chips were down, let’s discuss where the resolution is now and forget agreements that were required by the board.

If I remember correctly you knew more about what was going on than everyone else involved because you had the inside track, so why and what would you like to know from me, surely I should be asking you what’s going on oh nappy filling sage.

For anyone not consumed with jealousy interested, there will be a statement made prior to the AGM and hopefully at the AGM on the process to date.

You’re a funny sort of Celtic supporter. Funny as in strange rather than ha, ha. You seem to live in a time warp set in the 70s and 80s and dismiss any good that Celtic have done since Martin O’Neill. I think that Paul should have an appeal to raise funds to buy you a De Lorean. Then perhaps we could introduce you to Doc (Christopher Lloyd) – not CQN’s Doc – and arrange for you to be teleported back in time. We could also equip you with waterproof leggings to protect your trousers from the practices of the Jungle Dwellers. :-))
