Resurrection of defensive bedrock, work done in your name

980

The bedrock Celtic built their record-breaking league win on last was the defence; we went months without conceding, serious chances for opponents were written up lustily.  A large part of the summer shambles was the contrasting nature of our defensive play; Legia Warsaw scored six but they also missed a hatful.

While our results have improved in recent weeks it’s the defensive record which has shown the most marked up-lift.  We’ve conceded only twice in seven games, a ricochet against Astra and that goal against Hamilton.  By contrast, we kept only a solitary clean sheet in the seven games prior to this run.

On the surface, we looked shaky in defence for the latter parts of the game against Inverness on Saturday, but while there is still work to do, the defence can be encouraged that they are able to withstand sustained pressure – and that they can rely on their keeper, when necessary.

A couple of action points for you:

Magners are donating £18,300 to the Celtic Foundation.  The money will go to the four areas the Foundation work: Health, Equality, Learning and Poverty, in proportion to how fans nominate those areas.  To participate, tweet @MagnersUK with one of the following hashtags: #Health, #Equality, #Learning or #Poverty.

Magners have been a great help to our campaign to build a fourth CQN school kitchen for Mary’s Meals in recent weeks, so I’m keen we support and encourage this initiative.  £18,300 is a huge bonus for the Foundation, they will do great work with it.

The Foundation are full on with their Christmas strategy at the moment.  This year money will be split between those who look after the homeless and vulnerable, and individual families – identified by grassroots organisations, to help them buy gifts for kids and put a Christmas meal on the table.

This work is being done in your name, so make sure you’re aware of it.

The inaugural Foundation ladies’ lunch event, Ghirls for Good, takes place on Saturday 13 December, proceeds towards the Christmas Appeal.  If you qualify……. Book here.

But, for me…Cltic stopped being Celtic the minute

that Martin O’Neill walked out the door.Since then

a conveyer-belt of puppet managers have helped

to process a racket during downsizing whilst taking

maximum prices from fans for a continued reduction

That….is far worse than anything the huns have done.

You are a self-confessed serial liar. You are an experienced agitator. You are an attention seeker and rather than address points in a post you throw in a family of strawmen.

Regards the IP addresses, no need to go running to Paul and involve him in your deceits again, my reference to the IP addresses was when I told the blog one night that when I posted from home a constant IP address would show against my login; when I posted from work a different one would appear. Poor Magnus thought that that was some kind of confession and jumped on it. I thought it innane and not worth explaining.

Now I hope you didn’t forget all that because it appears you couldn’t back up your Magnus post, so me being a kind hearted soul was trying to help you by jogging your memory. I’ve had occasion to do that a few times over the years eh! Prince Edmund Ignatius Franz etc. etc. Bring me his head on a plate?

  15. I noticed that Ronny has said that Alexander Tonev is traveling with the squad this morning to Romania for the Astra game and that he has the clubs backing, and yet some in here are stating Celtic are not doing enough? I’m missing SOMTHING here right?

  16. shady - 'mon the wee Oscar on

That Spiers article is depressing. I hope the health workers demand an apology for belittling the aggro they need to put up with.

The deliberate use of the old firm crap is nauseating. He’s nailed his colours to the mast regarding new club’s history.

My only hope, as others have stated, is they go bust before the fixture takes place. So glad I won’t be there to witness any of it.

Morning. If you read the quote from RD I think you can see a bolstering of his (Ronny’s) position.

Previously he’d mentioned supporting him but alluding to youngsters needing to learn from mistakes.

Now it’s more clear cut support. End of.

I think Ronny’s stating to see the Scottish press for what they are.

Note also his wee comments on the FOD being the weakest of the 3 teams we could have faced in the semi.

I see a cussedness in his dealings with those who cross him. He may end up being more robust than the Celtic board and Comms dept.

    I’d like that.

CELTIC assistant manager John Collins expects another tough test of the Hoops’ credentials when the team take on FC Astra in the UEFA Europa League tomorrow night (Thursday).

The Bhoys have accumulated seven points from three games in Group D and could put themselves in prime position to qualify for the knockout stages with a win in Romania.

However, after seeing Astra’s performance at Celtic Park last month, Collins knows his team will have to put in a good performance to get the points.

“I expect another difficult game,” he said. “Given time on the ball they’ll pass it and move it and create chances.

“We look forward to the game and we’re in good form and scoring goals without conceding but in Europe it’s another level up.

“We learned that they have some good football players, move the ball well and like to keep it on the grass, a similar style of football to us and if we’re not on our toes they will create chances.”

It has been a busy run of games for the Bhoys recently with five games in two weeks.

Ronny Deila’s team have racked up five wins in that spell along with 16 goals and Collins said the mood in the camp is good heading into Thursday’s fixture.

He hopes the positive momentum will carry over into the Europa League and he added that he wants to see Celtic go as far as possible in the tournament.

“I think as each week has gone by we are getting a little bit better but the most important thing is the next game and we continue to do what we have been doing which is passing the ball well and creating chances,” he said.

“We have been scoring so it’s always good to try and get that goal away from home.

“The aim is to go as far as possible, like any team that goes into any tournament. You’d love to win it, we’re not saying we will, but we want to go as far as possible. Ask any of the players or fans, the European trips are great.

“Time will tell how far we can go. We’re not getting carried away.

“We’re sitting on seven points in the group and have had a bit of luck in the games and our goalkeeper has been called upon but done very well.

“There are no easy games in Europe and there are no poor teams so if you don’t perform you don’t get the result.”

COYBIG Europe is the place Celtic make their football reputation, always has been

    Massive game tomorrow

scullybhoy, I’ve not checked back to see who wrote that but………this game is a blight on Scottish society, a curse. I’d like to know the crime stats relating to this game over the years, not to mention the A & E rates.

Your correct, it drags Celtic back in time. The msm revel in this opportunity to hit us with the ‘ones as bad as th other’ line and that makes my blood boil. Despite all the evidence at hand, ranging from 90 years of apartheid to the battle of Manchester and the Self Destruction of 2012, CFC are still roped in, as if part and parcel. Its all done to ease the guilty conscience of Sevconian and msm hack alike.

I want no part of it, and I’d be happy never to see this fixture again (even on tv).

Ronny did say the other night at the meeting that all this stuff is new to him regarding thems, and that he keeps his tongue in his cheek when answering questions about thems, more or less saying he hasent got it yet, but he gets the jist of it, and in time he will Adress it in his own way, I could see his point, he is getting pruned by the board, the trash talk in the dressing room, the fans version of it, and the SMSM side of it, I spoke to him for a couple of minutes, my impression of the guy? He’s no ones mug.

Even a crap lawyer would run rings round the SFA rulebook.Did Celtic ask for the evidence?

  26. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

    Bada..,

No one knows what Celtic did prior to the initial hearing all we can go on is how they respond and that looks good.

Evening Times reporting that Commons and wee Jamesie both injured and not playing.

  28. Another thing Ronny said at the meeting and I honestly never thought about it and when I did he was right, he said ” we have had so many games more than any other team in the league, we have new players and including myself as a new manager with all the team new to me, myself and the coaching staff barely get time to do our job, and that is tactics, positions, WHOIS where, set pieces, and lots of other stuff that needs to be done, it’s frustrating but it comes with the job, for instance we have just played four games in nine days, players need rest after that so no traing the next day is a must, but we are in all the tournaments and so far every thing is good with the staff and the players” now you won’t read that in the SMSM and he wasent making excuses , he was telling it like it is, and as I said its SOMTHING That didn’t even cross my mind.

  29. Nclhe,

I think they will try to stick to their guns, then have rings run around them, then reduce it to two games which tonev will have served by then but it will still stink as it’s saying he’s now just a wee bit racist.
