Rogic, PoTY or sub?

261

The game after a big win or defeat is always important.  Winners going into the game need to set aside thoughts of glory, while losers need to get back in the saddle.  Both Celtic and Newco managed this very successfully after their pivotal league meeting on Wednesday.  Motherwell and Hearts, respectively fourth and third in the table, were dismissed in style.  For Newco, in particular, yesterday was a huge result.  This league has plenty of drama left in it yet.

Evident in Ange Postecoglou’s team selection recently has been squad management.  He rested Josip Juranovic, Jota and Matt O’Riley yesterday, replaced by Anthony Ralston, Daizen Maeda and Tom Rogic, none of whom looked anything other than first choice material.

The selection for Pittodrie on Wednesday will give us an insight into who the manager will select in a vitally important game when he has genuine options – for the first time this season.   After Aberdeen, Ange will have more opportunities to rest limbs, with Raith Rovers, Bodo/Glimt and Dundee visiting Celtic Park in succession, though the Norwegians will face a strong side.

Earlier in the season I mentioned Tom Rogic as a Player of the Year candidate.  More recently, I suggested he may find himself out in the cold after our January arrivals.  A virtuoso performance on his return from international duty saw me vacillating back to my initial prediction.  Can someone tell me how this one plays out, PoTY or cameo substitute?  Both seem plausible.

  1. Uncle Jimmy,

Yer contributions to this Incredible Blog are right up there.

Our Team is only gonnae get better IMO.

I’ve just noticed the league table on this page. Only the top three teams don’t have a negative goal difference!!

  3. Noticed somebody claiming that big Tam Rogic is the most skillful player in the team. Now don’t get me wrong Tam’s got all the tools, dovetails well with Abada, knows his angles, has the measure of the opposition, sees his openings and can cut through any defence, but even so I would not put him in that bracket, not unless you had a screw loose that is.

I suspect you’ve hung as many doors as Sturgeon has.

    ====================

You are welcome to your suspicions about my door hanging experices.

The point I was making is that councils are asked to consider ways to improve airflow and ventilation in the school estate that they are responsible for, and that finacial support is available for them to do it.

Leaving doors and windows open – where possible – is one of the easiest ways to do that if that’s appropriate. Other solutions are appropriate in other circumstances.

Translating that into ‘Sturgeon is telling schools to butcher classroom doors’ is sensationalising the issue. Anyway – knock yourself out – whatever keeps you happy.

UNCLE JIMMY on 7TH FEBRUARY 2022 7:52 PM – I do regret my mentioning of your mentioning of the door chopping. And – as I said – totally agree with the other points on government overreach.

  5. Rent a quote Dave Cormack has been fairly quiet recently. Probably reflecting on his decision to appoint his Atlanta buddy as manager of the Dons. Ditch McInnes and bring in the guy in charge of Atlanta B. Glass appears to be clueless and, as has been mentioned on here already, Broony player/coach just a matter of time.

Celtic will need to be appallingly bad not to win on Wednesday. That won’t happen as our minimum level is now miles higher than anything Aberdeen have in their locker.

Annoyed at myself for engaging in non-fitba chat (again).

Tam. If Ange does nothing else, I’ll be eternally grateful to him for bringing out the best in Rogic this year. Thought he was done with Celtic – on the way out of the door.

It is a great argument to have – and will be more even more interesting when O’Riley is thrown into the mix. Heard the commentator saying that Liverpool do a huge amount of data analysis on players – unsurprisingly. Aparently O’Riley consistently came out of their analysis as the top midfielder in England.

Glad to have nipped in quick – whoever scouted him deserves a bonus – he’ll be a cracker.

Aussie journo praised Ange’s achievements: Hun said it was just cos we were outspending every other team.

I pointedly reminded him about their illegal financial dominance for years. And precarious current position. ProHun congratulated me for ranting.

Celtic had 1 ebt which if I remember correctly was not sourced at Celtic,it was in fact a legacy issue as to how junihno got paid at Middlesbrough,

Brian Quinn,ex chair at Bank of England, applied his knowledge from there and of how Tax authorities might view such avoidance.Celtic engaged fully with tax authorities on what to do,and paid and disposed of all tax on hmrc advice

To contradict your pal,his lot at no time engaged with HMRC,til it was to late.they were being raided.they were even ignoring their own QCs

    Help me out guys please.

I remember “Open Windae that’s handy” as a catchphrase but I’m not 100% sure about where it came from. My best guess is an advert for crime prevention. I vaguely remember trying to mimic the voice similar to chewing the fat type sketches today.

The Hoops are playing some fantastic football these days and can’t wait for Wednesday versus the sheep.

  13. Chelsea and Germany’s 28-year-old defender Antonio Rudiger, who is out of contract at the end of the season, wants £225,000 a week to stay at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues offering £140,000 a week.

The lad only wants £11.7 million a year!!

  14. Dessybhoy at 6.37 .

That game at Rugby Park you mentioned ,Steve Conroy , sent off Mendes for two yellows and booked another seven players at least as well as sending the late Walter Smith to the stand.

The media gave Conroy such a hard time after that game saying he had lost control of the game which in turn had made Walter Smith lose his cool. Considering , I’m sure this was the same season , Mike McCurry was commended for booking nine of our players at Ibrox by the media.

I think the media attention Steve Conroy received after that game at Rugby Park affected how he reffed that Glasgow Derby game when he did not send Lafferty off and wrongly disallowed Fortune’s goal . He knew he would have received unwarranted criticism in the media again plus in seasons 09/10 and 10/11 , the honest mistakes were in overdrive.

  15. I think that our decorated former captain Scott Brown is in for a world of pain on Wednesday night. Our midfield is too fluid for the old dog. He always struggled when we went up a level against a strong press. Our bhoys need to be ruthless and i think they will be.

  16. St Stivs at 12.06pm….as a young bhoy living under crushing poverty ( not forgetting the abuse ) the armed forces were an appealing option for me…but my political principles stopped me. Yeah, if I had to do it all over again, I’d make the same decision 😂

  19. Dessybhoy, I’m glad it’s not just me that game at Rugby Park still sticks out with. The ref did his job and was pilloried for it by the media.

Rest in peace David Cattanach . Along with Davie Hay , he was George Connolly’s only other close pal at Celtic.

I wonder if 27 fouls will awarded against us on Wednesday night.

“I think that our decorated former captain Scott Brown is in for a world of pain on Wednesday night. Our midfield is too fluid for the old dog.”

Hope you’re right. But he may be playing sweeper, rather than in midfield.

  21. That Chelsea full back ,want £225,000 a week honestly greed you couldn’t make it up ,I’ve always said a working mans sport being exploited over the years with the likes of Murdoch and many others ,I think it’s time these players ,agents, clubs were halted in there tracks, many fans are treated as paying customers poor facilities sitting in a cold stadium in the winter ,in my view instead of paying these players astronomical wages clubs that can pay that sort of money ,should upgrade there stadiums with retractable roofs install heater blowing hot air all round the stadium, enough is enough plenty of these players are well off we’re as Joe Punter is just a paying customer for them to have a good life at there expense, personally I would chase all these agents who in principle should be negotiating wages, when I was working my employer paid my wages if we needed a wage rise it was between your union representatives and your employer and that’s how it should be with these football players.
