Rogic, PoTY or sub?

261

The game after a big win or defeat is always important.  Winners going into the game need to set aside thoughts of glory, while losers need to get back in the saddle.  Both Celtic and Newco managed this very successfully after their pivotal league meeting on Wednesday.  Motherwell and Hearts, respectively fourth and third in the table, were dismissed in style.  For Newco, in particular, yesterday was a huge result.  This league has plenty of drama left in it yet.

Evident in Ange Postecoglou’s team selection recently has been squad management.  He rested Josip Juranovic, Jota and Matt O’Riley yesterday, replaced by Anthony Ralston, Daizen Maeda and Tom Rogic, none of whom looked anything other than first choice material.

The selection for Pittodrie on Wednesday will give us an insight into who the manager will select in a vitally important game when he has genuine options – for the first time this season.   After Aberdeen, Ange will have more opportunities to rest limbs, with Raith Rovers, Bodo/Glimt and Dundee visiting Celtic Park in succession, though the Norwegians will face a strong side.

Earlier in the season I mentioned Tom Rogic as a Player of the Year candidate.  More recently, I suggested he may find himself out in the cold after our January arrivals.  A virtuoso performance on his return from international duty saw me vacillating back to my initial prediction.  Can someone tell me how this one plays out, PoTY or cameo substitute?  Both seem plausible.

  2. Superbru update:-

This week’s yellow cap winner was our own big Steve Conroy fan 😀 Bada Bing with 8.5 points. Half a point behind was Call me Gerry and Cosy Corner Bhoy was a further half point away in 3rd.

7 fans got the 4:0 prediction in the Celtic match right, including two of the above named.

The wooden spoon this week went to Quadrophenian with 1 point but Tirconnel, wee BGFC, Knoxy and Jonny the Tim shared that total too.

In the overall race Call me Gerry has extended his lead to 4.5 over Hopeful Hoops with Big Archie a further 6 points back in 3rd.

Next predictions are due in by Wednesday at 19.45 when we have a full 6 matches to predict so a chance to beat our winning weekly total of 15.5 held by Bhoyfromthevillage.

    Good Luck to you all.

  3. Watched some great sport over the weekend and football has a lot to learn from rugby regarding the protocol for HIA’s. Caught the first half of the match against Motherwell as I had to visit an elderley relative in a nursing home but was delighted that the game was done and dusted by half time.

Thee men from the land of the Rising Sun certainly know how to find the net with Mr Maeda now becoming a regular on the scoresheet having just arrived here and Rog returning with two crackers.

The three we scored on Wednesday night brought the goal difference up to a healthy 8 and another 4 yesterday. Just as well after Newco’s 5, the GD is still healthy and may be vital in the title race.

Government overreach is reaching ridiculous proportions.

However, whether named person legislation, obfa or merely lopping some wood from classroom doors, civil servants and government ministers need to remember what they were elected to

    _____^^^^^^^

Better point if you remove the “… lopping some wood from classroom doors…” reference.

A silly Tory misrepresentation of a funding program to support local councils in making improvements THEY feel are necessary to school buildings they maintain to improve ventilation and airflow. Councils will defer to their own local fire safety teams on any specific plans.

As with Hot Smoked – not making an “I support the SNP” point – I agree with the rest of your post – OBFA, named person legislation – I vehemently disagreed with.

The school doors reference is, as I say, nothing other than a Douglas Ross headline grabber.

  7. Red TVs match commentary is usually less biased and more professional than Sky’s or Shortbread’s.

That’s the case for most clubs’ TV channels. Obviously not the huns which is every bit as bad as you’d expect.

  8. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

From earlier extract from Stephen Conroy blab ….

“Up here we all get into the game to be a ref in top games and being from the west of Scotland the vast majority either support Rangers or Celtic”

    Factually incorrect.

Replace “or” with “and” – becomes true.

80% Sevco supporters plus 10% Celtic does indeed (combined) constitute a “vast majority”

Otherwise – just more O*d F**m rubbish from SMSM

BADA, 100% right. I was at his one game v The Hun and he is attempting to re-write history by saying he was at the wrong angle to see the Laffatme horror tackle on Andreas Heinkle, I was across the width of the pitch half way up North Stand Lower and I could see the assault as clear as day. Years later Andreas stated that he still had the marks of his boot/studs on him. Shytebag, got at successfully before the game and, obviously, after it as well.

My wife is a Maths teacher. She was staggered at the door sawing suggestion. Particularly as teachers have been leaving classroom doors open since the pandemic started.

Kids in Scotland are still being expected to wear masks in class too, unlike the BBC News footage we see from England that shows very few kids masking up.

I think you’re perhaps giving Sturgeon too much credit here.

    https://news.stv.tv/politics/sturgeon-defends-covid-proposal-to-chop-bottom-off-classroom-doors

The idea of butchering a door to let air pass underneath it is stupid. End of.

It’s a door FFS. If you want it to let in air, open it.

    ==================

As I said – the decision on the best way to improve airflow rests with the local council, who will discuss with their fire safety officers. Use of sensationalist terms like “butchering” deflect from the substance of the discussion.

As was sensationally intimated by Tory Dr Sandesh Gulhane “…Nicola Sturgeon wants to change the hanging of doors to improve airflow… that’s a posh way of saying chop the bottom of the doors off! They are fire doors!!!…”

If fire safety is the main consideration / concern as was suggested above – then keeping a fire door fully open would be an even more ‘stupid’ solution, unless managed properly (e.g., regular audit, visual checks, clear line of sight with alternative exits, etc.).

No need to go down a sensationalist, partisan route about this. Reducing a sensible discussion to “butchering doors” is infantile.

  15. Was Conroy the referee at a match of them v Kilmarnock when Walter Smith was the manager and I think they did not get a good result, had a red card and a number of bookings? Smith went ballistic.

Conroy should have sent Lafferty off, he didnt ,it was a shameful decision, I also thought MAF’s goal should have stood as McGregor faked a foul.

  16. This is bliss!

I suspect you’ve hung as many doors as Sturgeon has.

Butchering isn’t a sensationalist term to anyone who knows their arris from their elbow.

And leaving a door ajar while a room is occupied, if that is what is considered appropriate, is not the same thing as keeping it fully open. Doors, even fire doors, are meant to be capable of being opened when appropriate. It’s kind of a prerequisite of being called a door. Otherwise it’s just part of a wall.
