Rogic rises without impartial fan or journalist eyes

422

Back in October I wrote that Tom Rogic could be this season’s Player of the Year, or he could just as easily drift out of the team.  Injury (hamstring, of course) soon interrupted his run of form but Tom was inspired at Hampden in December, when the League Cup was brought back into the fold.  On this basis alone, Tom’s nomination for the Scottish Professional Footballers Association (SPFA) Player of the Year is worthwhile.

The Celtic story of this season is largely how we overturned a six-point deficit during the second half of the campaign.  The team’s rise was helped enormously by a spectacular January transfer window, but without a few excellent performers in the first half of the season, current form would count for nought.

Kyogo changed everything.  His goals, movement, respectful behaviour, the sheer joy he brought to Celtic cannot be overstated.  He was the muse all others took inspiration from.  Despite missing half the season, you could make a case that his impact outweighs all others.

Cameron Carter-Vickers did what we hoped Shane Duffy would do a year earlier.  He controls his immediate vicinity with an assuredness that allows the entire team to relax and get on with their with their primary function.  If not Player of the Year, he is a big part of the story.

The same goes for Joe Hart, who settled our 12 months goalkeeping problem and provides the same assuredness the team gets from Carter-Vickers.  Neither Kyogo, Cameron nor Joe received a nomination.

Callum McGregor did and is likely to win the award.  He has been a Celtic constant for eight years and a setter of world records for time served per season.  He is one of the players who could easily slot into any of the great European sides.

Whatever your views on PotY, these are the nominations came from players who have competed in the league this season; there are no impartial fan or journalist eyes involved.

“Guy’s an absolute Rolls Royce; make his deal our No1 priority – I said before – heaps better than the Boyatas and Denayers – the lad is the next VVD!!”

    —————————————

I voted for CCV on the Celtic site for POTY but I think you do Boyar and Denayer a dis-service.

Dedrik left Celtic to become a regular and captain with a mid table Bundesliga club, Hertha Berlin. Jason Denayer, after leaving us was loaned out to Glatasaray (2x) and a then- Premier League Sunderland before getting a transfer to Lyon. He has been a regular with every club, apart from this season at Lyon.

Both have played 29 and 35 times respectively for a top ranked Belgian side and both are likely to be selected for the November WC in Qatar in November, if fit.

Both these lads would have served us well if they had stayed but CCV does deserve to be considered as good as them currently

    ——————-

Cheers SFTB – re doing Boyata and Denayer any dis-service… I agree they’ve made the most of their talents. Difference I see with big Cameron is that I watched Dedryck and Jason (in Melb actually) have some absolute howler matches – games where they were either Rafael Scheidt or Ragdolled (copyright Chris jullien (c)

BUT WHILE I’ve seen Cam get caught out in individual instances, his ability to recover and steady his own – and our – performance and ships, seems totally unique and impressive.

  2. Old Firm held back with bookable tackles all game until Goldson and Tavernier received two from the French referee late on. Players obviously reminded pre match that one of their own in charge. With Beaton up next it’ll be back to plan A for them on Sunday. I seriously wonder if nice guy Gio calls the shots here, or does the wee bigot kit guy get the final.say.

  3. Liepzig certainly favourites for me. Like us getting the opening goal against a Livi, the fact they now have to open up completely changes things. Liepzig will beat them next week.

  4. One man’s repetition is the same man’s (and a clutch of his pals) obsession. Calvin Klein CSC.

Only to vermin huns was it a surprise

    On here promoting lies

    Obfuscation on behalf of liars.

Nothing but lies.poor poor psy ops

    Nowt but rightwing racist vermin

Yesterday, not a word on a report into care homes in E&W.So many souls lost, following the path of covid death since it came to Europe,Chinese,Italians,French then it hit here,

And bang! unionist racist vermin like yourself,in like a rat, weaponized it,it was Scottish gov fault, they owned it.

To read your posts you’d think all chaos was in Scotland, covid existed only there

Shallow spitting Britnat racism on your unions behalf.

Racist vermin were not complaining bout the deaths, the cull was handy to the his unions genocidal tendency and pension policy, the racists on here were weaponizing for political ends, turns out Boris the unmentionable, you know, the liar guy, you….never talk of,

  8. My friends in Celtic,

I would imagine both teams will be happy with the result in Leipzig. Its up for grabs for both new clubs. A chance to make some history for one of them.

Let’s not fool ourselves, the huns are a well organised team. They have an accuracy passing stastic of 81.24 % in their 13 European games. They have a 48.47 % possession stat.

Imo, that is impressive and we should really focus on how good OUR performance was in the 3-0 game at Paradise and the 1-2 victory @ Grayskull.

We need to be at our best to beat them and I’m sure we will be on Sunday.

We really do our team a disservice by focusing on how poor the huns are rather than focus on how good we can be.

I would never like to be a Hun or even imagine that concept… but GVB flinging in “4 yellow” Lundstram into a back 3 away in Europe is something no Celtic manager contemplates … MON was the last manager who ever gave our defence protection … BUT am not complaining as I love Celtic going forward .. Betis & Leverkusen away this season might not have yielded the desired points but magic to watch …

Anyway maybe it’s just a fact the Huns will settle for liquidation & pragmatism on the football field ..

Celtic will just settle for paying their bills and attacking fitba & hope to win what we can ,..

  10. The passing accuracy stat and possession stat are the worst two stats in football.

They are only good if you win games or trophy’s.

Look at NFL team last year passed the ball till it burst across our back line and never won a bean, 25 points behind a piss poor team.

No siree Rankers are pish .

What have they won up until now…nowt. oh that’s right we have won the only trophy so far.

We will end their league campaign if not on sunday the following week.

They might get to a final of EL but then again maybe not.

    No one remembers losers.

    Bring them on.

  12. One of the fondest and most memorable seasons for me was 2002 / 2003.

We won nothing, but it remains in my mind more than some winning seasons.

The journey was magnificent and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

    It is skull mountain

Actually Snake Mountain, home Skelator, an obvious hun.

  14. Only avid watchers of He Man know about Snake Mountain. Everyone knows the term Grayskull.

The fact the huns took such offence to the comment from Kirsy McCabe only increased its popularity.

My wife’s mate stays in Kinning Park and even she calls it Grayskull when we drive by.

From previous discussions on here I believe either was a perfect description.

    Take your pick.

  15. AN TEARMANN

The joint liquidators were appointed in October 2012. They have been picking at the corpse of the original huns for nigh on 10 years, diminishing the amount available to creditors year by year. I notice the report contains no schedule, or timetable when the liquidation will be wound up. The farcical, artificially extended and outrageously drawn out process is an absolute disgrace.

    I agree.

Great little earner for BDO as it appears to be their timesheet

That timetabling should be looked at in law,it just seems so distant now.iirc Airdrie were 10+ years

The process needs demystifying to us and in Law,

Timed and diarized would be an ideal,I agree.

An open, honest, evidenced and transparent report into the liquidation of rfc……nope, even typing that is weird,in Scotland where establishment knuckles were rubbed sfa and their works team!
