Rue the day Dave King decides he has had enough of Ibrox

423

Few will be surprised that the Takeover Appeal Board (TAB) ruled Dave King acted in concert with George Taylor Douglas Park and George Letham when buying a controlling interest in Newco Rangers two years ago, another “favourable settlement”, you could say.

In their statement, TAB wrote, “Over the last two years Mr King has had ample opportunity to disclose documents and to provide other evidence to rebut any deeming, presumption or inference from the evidence that he was acting in concert with Messrs Letham, Taylor and Park. He has not done so.”

So far, so clear-cut, but while this is an unwelcome distraction (or more) to Dave, King, I genuinely hope he has the wherewithal to fund any necessary share purchase. It is difficult to overestimate the extent to which King’s position inhibits Newco.

The club will go nowhere while it remains in his clutches. It is far from clear who would pick up the years of potential liabilities should he exit (forget Sugar Daddy fantasies), but better the devil we know – when we know so much about him.

We have the perfect controller of Newco. He leads through PR dictate, appeals to the lowest common denominator, sat as a director through Oldco’s ignominious demise, and appears to have enough funding capacity to get them as high as third in the league.

I will rue the day Dave King decides he has had enough of Ibrox.

Many thanks to all who contributed to the Lisbon canvass raffle for Alzheimer Scotland. The competition is now closed and we raised an incredible £3264. The winner has been in touch, so if you don’t know already, unfortunately, it’s not you.

This has been another small excerpt in the Great Celtic Story. Well done.

Ah, see what you are saying.

    Yes.

Although we all know that not a penny of the overinvestment has come from King. And they can claim they aren’t a concert party all they like, but they have exhausted every appeal.

    “…right now Celtic’s market value is £125million….”

If that’s in any way concretely true and has any long term meaning, then it’s quite an advance. In 2012, as the Old Rangers were disintegrating, I had the opportunity to speak with two central figures then at Celtic Park and asked them how much Rangers as a business were worth. Same as us, they said, £35m, though Green (or whoever’s money it was) only paid £5m for their assets.

Could do worse than bringing Aiden in for a week or 2,and see what kind of shape he is in,not sure if his contract at Everton is up at the end of the season, but Koeman wouldn’t be hard to deal with.

I’ve seen McGeady a few times lately for Preston and he has looked good, although I think he’s the type of player who will look better in highlights clips than in a full game.

Don’t think I’d have him back as I don’t think he would fit Brendan’s style of play. Commons hasn’t been near the team.

  7. Speaking in January 2015, Mourinho said: ‘He’s being punished by opponents and not protected by refs, maybe one day we won’t have Hazard. They kick and kick and kick.

It was goood to see a referee taken action on the systematic fouling of Eden Hazard.

Watching Celtic for 50 odd years I think the “honest mistakes” are as bad as they’ve ever been.

I don’t think last nights referee would have allowed Waghorn or Holt to get away with some of the tackles they put in.

  10. Hey folks.

Was chatting to an ex teammate of mine (a stout Zombie) last night and we got talking about Pedro’s ludicrous claims of 144 years and 54 titles.

I obviously told him the facts of liquidation etc but you as predictable as death and taxes (see what I did there) you can imagine his automatic response (“you’re obsessed”).

I also said that this stuff about being the most successful football club in the world is also utter garbage.

He said “how? The amount of trophies we have won is a world record”.

I sighed. I then said “are you telling me you wouldn’t swap you’re 27 league cups for 1 European Cup?”

I explained that different trophies carry less or more significance/status than others.

Eventually this was something that he admitted. I made the point that officially Barca has won more trophies than Real Madrid but no one is foolish enough to say that Barca are the more successful club (11 European cups being the biggest factor of course).

So, I told him we should allocate a number of points to each trophy and then see which club had the most.

He agreed to this feeling that his beloved Holding Company Vehicle would still come out on top.

We agreed to assign 10 points to a league title, 5 to a Scottish Cup, 3 to a League Cup.

150 points for a European Cup and 75 for the Cup Winners Cup (he eventually admitted that the European Cup was twice as important given its status, this took some doing though as you can imagine due to the levels of jealousy they feel for the achievements of the Lisbon Lions).

We also assigned points for reaching certain European finals and for reaching the Champions League knockout phases.

We also analysed both teams overall performances in European competition and the historical domestic dominance in decades (based on league wins).

    Here are the results.

As you can see despite having 15 trophies less we accumulate more points given the prestige of certain trophies we’ve won (here’s looking at you Big Ears!)

My Hun acquaintence of course wasn’t having this and insisted it be based on purely trophies and that I take away points for reaching finals and for champions league knockout rounds.

    So I did…

    Celtic = 848

    Rangers = 851

I said “congratulations, according to our criteria you are still the most successful club.”

He had a smug WATP grin on his face.

I then said “that is until perhaps this weekend when we win the league and even if you somehow win the Scottish Cup we will still be in front. We welcome the chase!”

He called the usual bigoted names and then stormed off before shouting back at me “aye but you’re still 16 trophies behind eh!”

    You can’t win eh lol

(This experiment also failed to take into account our historic Coronation Cup victory, the Empire Exhibition Cup, the Victory in Europe Cup, all of the Glasgow Cups won down the years so I don’t think it’s much of a debate who the most successful club in Scotland is).

I’m sure Pedro will soon have us sorted out though and restore “The Rangers” to their rightful place as number one ;0)

  11. From Aiden McGeadys attitude under WGS I couldn’t see him knuckling under to Brendan’s regime.

  12. Just read The Scotmans Referee Review of Madden on Sunday. Hilarious. Obviously written by 2 zombie journos. Griffiths wasn’t a penalty, Miller should have been a yellow, Holt should have been a yellow and Brown should have been sent off.

Monday night’s in a pub are effing murder, aren’t they?

  14. On another point,

I really hope Sunday serves as our wake up call as to how good we’ll need to be in order to progress to the Cup final in May. Hopefully we may look back at the lapse in performance and concentration as a blessing in disguise after the semi.

A few other posters have mentioned the fact that not only the players but the support have to guard against complacency.

The whole “here we go 10IAR” song sits really uncomfortably with me, it’s something that the Zombies would do and I always get the feeling it can come back to bite us if we don’t keep striving to keep improving in all areas of the club. One year, let alone four, is a long long time in football and much can happen.

    Just my opinion mind.

Here’s hoping that if Brendan sticks around for at least the next few years (let’s say he gets to 8IAR for example) that his heart rules his head and he sees it as his personal legacy to carry on an extra few years to ensure that the song becomes a reality.

Maybe the only second time that I’m disappointed with PAUL67 ducking an issue-it’s his choice what he posts, and I’ve ducked a few anaw-and I got a kicking on here the first time.

On the other hand, head over to E-Tims,and see if they’re being so nice about the proceedings.

PAUL67,you made your reputation by leading from the front. I distinctly recall my first few months on here.

Around April 2009, you said-as we were clearly losing the league-that you would do a summation of where it went wrong, and that you would be excoriating in your criticism.

They were clearly targeting Hazard last night.

People talk about a sending-off “spoiling the game”. Isn’t a game spoiled when the most skilful player is getting kicked off the park?

  18. No chance we will see McGeady again, think about Brendan’s buzzwords, desire, mentality, concentration, work, press, hunger. Aiden doesn’t fit this team nor does he fit our recruitment profile.

  19. GLASSTWOTHIRDSFULL on 14TH MARCH 2017 2:24 PM

Fair enough but I would say Aiden is a lot more mobile than Kris and would add to what we’ve got already. Also think BR being the coach he is would get more out if Aiden than we have seen previously.

He also comes back with more experience and prior knowledge of the club/league obviously.

As a potential signing, its a big YES from me

With the club showing growth on and off the park shares have steadily risen over the course of the season.

Right now Celtic’s market value is £125million. To put that into some sort of perspective a team third place in the league in the same league is only valued at £20million.

Indeed, not only do we have supporters that expect and accept ‘it’ – we have a PLC and Board of Directors that are happy to play along ( whilst we’re winning the longer game .)

This is where the Celtic support fractions into groups,

    A) Celtic supporters that say “ What do you expect when the referee is already a a card carrying known supporter “ we rolled up on Sunday with this knowledge, so we must roll over?

    B) Celtic supporters that are diametrically opposed to the heated driveway notion of Celtic.

The Celtic mantra is not to complain or definately not too publicly and that is why we are where we are. Board says we’ve got the money you’ve still got the League.

The difficulty is not Bobby Madden the difficulty could be John Beaton or Andrew Dallas next week, Steven McLean again, or Craig Thompson again, etc, etc.

Brendan Rodgers had the balls to call out the referee, he even interviewed him on the pitch by the Jungle , it’s a pity the lily livered Board didn’t and don’t .
