Rue the day Dave King decides he has had enough of Ibrox

423

Few will be surprised that the Takeover Appeal Board (TAB) ruled Dave King acted in concert with George Taylor Douglas Park and George Letham when buying a controlling interest in Newco Rangers two years ago, another “favourable settlement”, you could say.

In their statement, TAB wrote, “Over the last two years Mr King has had ample opportunity to disclose documents and to provide other evidence to rebut any deeming, presumption or inference from the evidence that he was acting in concert with Messrs Letham, Taylor and Park. He has not done so.”

So far, so clear-cut, but while this is an unwelcome distraction (or more) to Dave, King, I genuinely hope he has the wherewithal to fund any necessary share purchase. It is difficult to overestimate the extent to which King’s position inhibits Newco.

The club will go nowhere while it remains in his clutches. It is far from clear who would pick up the years of potential liabilities should he exit (forget Sugar Daddy fantasies), but better the devil we know – when we know so much about him.

We have the perfect controller of Newco. He leads through PR dictate, appeals to the lowest common denominator, sat as a director through Oldco’s ignominious demise, and appears to have enough funding capacity to get them as high as third in the league.

I will rue the day Dave King decides he has had enough of Ibrox.

Many thanks to all who contributed to the Lisbon canvass raffle for Alzheimer Scotland. The competition is now closed and we raised an incredible £3264. The winner has been in touch, so if you don’t know already, unfortunately, it’s not you.

This has been another small excerpt in the Great Celtic Story. Well done.

I agree with BBrother Pedro’s claim that they have the best squad in the country. What other team can field 14 players in a game?

Hi Troops going to Benalmadena tomorrow for a week looking for a couple of bars to go to. Mainly for the Celtic game at Dundee and for ST Patricks day would be much appreciated Cheers. HH.

I go to John Lemon or Madass when there….John Lemon shows the Celtic match and only the Celtic match whereas Madass is catering for everyone so tends to be also showing EPL and racing and rugby etc.

Some valid criticism of Aiden there based on past performances but I don’t think you could apply any of the above words to Forrest pre Brendan.

Where as now Forrest shows majority of those attributes on a regular basis.

    —–

Fair point. I suppose the difference would be that JF was already here and young enough at 24 years old, BR has worked with him and brought said qualities to the fore. Re Aiden, unless BR has seen something in him previously, i don’t see us signing him.

Incidentally his contract with Everton runs till 2018 although he will probably get a free transfer this summer.

“So, Pedro – did you get the script from Jim?”

“yeah, sure – I have it here:

Great history, 142 years, 54 titles, most successful club in the world.

Back in the top league after we were demoted as punishment for financial mismanagement by Craig Whyte. That’s why we now call the training ground Auchenhowie and not Murr…. Oops, hang on – that doesn’t work, does it?

Anyway, the financial stuff was nothing to do with the club. It was the holding company thingy. Is this stuff for real? Oh, it is? Okay.

I’m looking forward to working with the great players we have here, especially Barrie McKay. It was great that the club – (or was it the holding company?) – turned down that £6m bid from Leipzig.

I can’t understand why the breadman handed in his resignation, as it is such a big club.

I am looking forward to the world class breakfasts at Murr… – sorry – Auchenhowie.

I can’t wait for my first Old Firm game. I watched the Old Firm game on Sunday and it was a great Old Firm game. We played really well to get a draw with our Old Firm rivals Celtic and close the gap to them. The referee in the Old Firm game was excellent.

Did I get the 10 mentions of Old Firm in there? What’s that – only five? Oh, it felt like more.

Err, okay – Old Firm, Old Firm, Old Firm, Old Firm, Old Firm.

What’s that – I’m beginning to sound like Kenny MacIntyre? Oh, is that a good or bad thing???

Anyway, that’s all I have to say for now.

  5. Bsr

True, and although he probably says it to keep people happy BR does say the finishing team is as important as the starting

  6. Hrvatski Jim,

Thanks for the kind words. I felt duty bound to do the calculations after hearing the guff that Pedro and his paymasters were coming away with yesterday.

What’s more is that we all know that roughly 20-30 of their trophies were won through cheating. They can dress it up all they like but cheating is what it was. Even with the EBTs, help from the SFA, help from the Bank of Scotland and the most biased media imaginable, we still come out on top.

It’ll be fascinating to make the comparisons again in 10-20 years.

They may win the odd League title or Cup and try to add it to the total of the Club who died in 2012 but even if they do they’ll likely never have the same resources they did during the Murray years and as long as both clubs remain in Scotland we should be well placed to keep them in a long and dark shadow.

I’ve come to accept the fact that by hook or by crook there will always be a club playing out of Govan by some name or other and they will always cling on to their “history and traditions”.

I think the best thing that can happen is for us to keep winning, year upon year until it sickens them to the extent that they end up playing to 15,000-20,000 every other week, knowing that the reality they faced in the early 80s when they were also runs was in fact the true level of their club.

As many have stated already, the way they celebrated a 1-1 draw in what was mathematically a meaningless league game was very symbolic.

  7. TTR

I think BR and his coaching team could generate the same qualities in Aiden but I concede it might not be as easy as he’s approaching the latter stage of his career.

If we could get him as a free, I’d definitely give him a chance.

6-8£M for Roberts or McGeady on a free?

    Aiden for me

Just read The Scotmans Referee Review of Madden on Sunday. Hilarious. Obviously written by 2 zombie journos. Griffiths wasn’t a penalty, Miller should have been a yellow, Holt should have been a yellow and Brown should have been sent off.

Just read it too. My first reaction was to register in order to post a comment. On second thoughts I removed the Scotsman from the Newsnow articles I receive. Simple to do…..left click on the publication and select ‘hide publication’ from the drop down menu.

  12. AuroraBorealis79 on

Just watched a reply of the Griff penalty claim & that scumbag Madden actually raises the whistle to his lips before turning & running up the pitch.

I think another example of his guilt is in the fact he didn’t book Griffiths for simulation.

We are not getting the s…e that he couldn’t see from the angle he was at, he made no attempt to get a better view and had no intention of giving us a penalty, he also looked slow and not fit enough to keep up with the game.

Thinking Padre Pedro and his technical staff will have been fairly shocked by what they saw on Sunday.

Their players literally kicking their way towards a draw. Match officials complicit..

The poor guy must be thinking WTF is going on here, how can I ever allow my team to play in such an underhand way… its’s not the beautiful game …

    Or

This is going to be an absolute dawdle.. or whatever that is in Brazilian (sic) ;-)

  16. The Scotsman Sports dept has long had a bee in its bonnet regarding how few red cards Broonie has received.

    It really vexes them.

I usually don’t post on here any more, Tony, however I am 100% with you on the job that DD/PL and the board have done over the last fifteen years.

On the park we are in the second-best period in our history – off the park and in this crazy football business world, thete is no doubt that we at the height of success.

I see no change in the next five years and I hope DD, PL and Brendan are still in place – Hail Hail.

The question as to who should be first choice between Forrest and Roberts is a tricky one.

Assuming both are fit, I think the shout would go to James.

Until or unless Patrick commits to us for next season, he should be used as back up or sub.

Apart from Scottish Cup business, our main focus is now on the qualifiers and the squad we will have to compete in them.

  21. AB6(

They now have a ready made excuse, Celtic player in a scoring position , get yourself into a position where you cannot get a view of a tackle, no penalty cos when they look back at the TV pictures the view wont be good so you cant give it, suspicious you bet , the cheating will be weekly.

I dont recall anyone on here saying the penalty at St Johnstone was legit, the garbage from Sunday to justify this decision tells you it will continue and in any game and be justified by any means, Cup ties late on if it its level or a one goal game you are very vulnerable.

I found 2 flaws in your calculations:

One title was shared with Dumbarton and only merits 1/2 of the points.

You forgot the 0.0001 point for the Petrofac Cup.

There is contrasting evidence out there where the same ref has given decisions from the same view. The difference being that the penalty given (against Celtic) never was a penalty but a dive. Also the decision to give Victor Wanyama a red card for an incident which was lesser offence than those he ignored on Sunday.

I’m sure if we were to trawl through all his games involving Celtic we will find many more conflicting decisions.

So to say he didn’t give it as he didn’t see is downright nonsense as he has given similar against Celtic as proven in the video posted earlier in a game involving St Mirren.

  28. So Pedro reckons he has the best squad of players in Scotland. Oh well Brendan no point in offering to swap Scott Sinclair for super Barry, Moussa for Wonderful Waggy and Jamsie for Topsie Tavvy. You’ve got to laugh how the stupid huns on Wollow Wollow are lapping it up.
