Russia and Ukraine on track for 2015 Joint Championship

950

The organising committee of the proposed Joint Russian and Ukrainian championship have confirmed that the Russian Premier League have voted in favour of the proposal.  The matter will now go to the Russian Association and the corresponding authorities in Ukraine.

Valery Gazzaev, president of Russian club, Alania Vladikavkaz, told reporters, “Innovation is never easy, even the World Cup and European Championships had doubters in the game.  The English, who founded the game, were sceptical about such championships.

“We have had the same doubts about our project but in football, a policy of integration is now necessary.  Look at the European Championship in 2020, which will be held across 13 countries.

“Given the economic crisis in Europe few territories can afford to maintain a competitive team.  If we draw a combined championship with Russia and Ukraine we will improve entertainment, as well as football and financial stability.

“Half of Russian clubs are unprofitable (a considerably lower portion than UK clubs), 70% are subsidised by governmental budgets, this is wrong.  A Joint League will enable teams to earn money to pay their own way.

“We want to create a strong league which will compete with the best in Europe.

“The plan is to hold the first joint championship in 2015-16.  Teams will compete in European competitions under their national flags.  The national quotas for participation in the tournament will remain the same, so if ranking does not change, Russia and Ukraine will be represented in the Champions League by six teams.

“Our proposal is fully consistent with Uefa strategy.  Uefa understand that, under the current league structures, Financial Fair Plan will weaken our clubs.  A combined championship gives us a solution.

“Part of the budget for the new league will come from the sale of media rights.  The remaining amount will be generated from sponsors.  It’s not just about Gazprom, other major Russian, Ukrainian and international companies will be involved (no mention of Flamingo Land yet).”

Make no mistake, this project’s viability is underwritten by political and financial muscle.  Gazprom are a huge player in world energy markets, as well as European football sponsorship, while politicians in Moscow and Kiev see football as a ‘political football’.

They have the money and backers to ensure this slips through Uefa, creating an important blueprint in the process.  Note specifically that Champions League spots will be retained by each nation, a hugely important point for integration elsewhere.

Morissey, I know how sore you must be feeling but read the post directed at me by St Stives/kilbowie kelt, about keeping a lid on it pal, we really don’t know what they plan so lets no worry about snaw when there’s nane fawin.

Remember the guys we are dealing with learned how to smile as they killed so lets not make it easy for them.

We must not be allowed to be portrayed as attacking the club so try and keep the emotive references to a minimum when referring to the servants of our club :o)

    Hail Hail

It’s good to come across people who believe in something; hand on heart I’m not sure I understand or even agree with the issue here but I have nothing but admiration for your indefatigable tenacity.

Couldn’t Celtic get into England via the back door?

I think there is a ruling in England where clubs are not allowed to relocate more than 50 miles. Coventry have relocated about 30 miles currently for example.

Celtic Nation in Carlisle are 95 miles from Glasgow.

If it was acceptable to their owner (I think he is a tim), couldn’t we fund them/give them players on loan to help them move up the pyramid?

They could relocate for one season to a halfway point, say Moffat, keeping within the 50 miles restriction. The next season, they could relocate to Glasgow and amalgamate/be swallowed by us.

A small 1000 seater could be built near Moffat by Celtic and gifted to the local council for the communities around there, in return for planning permission.

The Celtic Nation board could have a seat for life on the board of Celtic.

and an appropriate shareholding. Their season ticket holders could have a season ticket at Celtic for life (average attendance about 250), and a small shareholding.

If need be Celtic could fund a small community stadium in Carlisle to be gifted to the community to compensate for swallowing their team, and a new entity could start off in Carlisle with a new neat wee community ground. The construction of this could be a pretext for moving to around the Moffat area.

A good deal for the town of Carlisle, Moffat and the borders, and of course Celtic.

Could this be done legally, and without upsetting anyone other than the well- compensated fans of celtic nation?

Five or six years in the doldrums, then we could achieve our full potential – to be the biggest and best team in the world. And without you know who.

Obviously building 2 new small stadia and 5/6 years in lower leagues with potentially no Euro cash will cost a lot of money – tens and tens of millions. If the will is there and it is legal, maybe with a new share offering (which potentially could be very rewarding for shareholders) and DD buying into it, it can be achieved.

    Anyone? Is it possible?

It seems to me if you are going to ask a clever man a question and you expect a simple and truthful answer if you say to him I will be back for an answer in six weeks time if he is as clever as we think he is he will come back with a well prepared answer. Now in my opinion the Celtic board is full of clever men.I dont wish to seem as though I am deeming any CQN poster as not clever just that a group of clever men with a six week window have plenty of time to come up with an answer that is long but short of real content I hope I am wrong but I some how doubt it. H.H.

No rule about more than one 50 mile flit within a fixed time frame?

    Still the cross border issue.

  12. Canalamar/Morrissey, I think you could almost bank on any decisions made at any future public meetings you hold will be in the Celtic/SFA boardrooms quicker than Ally in Greggs.

  13. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

Gallowgate – it is likely that if Celtic were to choose this stealth route into the English leagues we would be met with [even more] hostility from the supporters of every club in the country, apart from those of the other leper club, MKDons.

And the proposal you outline seems to run contrary to the financial model the board are following; speculating to eventually accumulate seems to bring them out in hives.

So I can’t see it happening.

    dbbia,

It’s dead simple, I want the SFA investigated for cheating us out of money, by the only recognised investigative body.
