In the most significant development towards the regionalisation of European leagues yet, Russian Premier League chief executive, Sergei Pryadkin, has announced plans to merge the Russian and Ukrainian leagues. The plan has been driven by CSKA Moscow, Zenit St. Petersburg and Anzhi Makhachkala, who have formed a foundation committee.
Russian clubs already deal with the rigours of playing across a vast geographical area, so adding a huge nation like Ukraine would present further challenges, but top sides from Russian and Ukraine know that if they are to become genuine top tier clubs they will need to play in as strong a league as possible. The plan is likely to involve feeder national leagues working below the confederated league.
Uefa president Michel Platini has already given the green light to the regionalisation of leagues. The most important question for Scottish football fans, is whether SPL clubs would like to feed into a confederated British league.
The hoary old claim that SPL clubs need Celtic and Rangers has been shown to be a complete falsehood this year. SPL clubs didn’t need Rangers and they don’t need Celtic either – if only those running our game had the balls to ask fans their views on this matter they might reinvigorate our game, instead of managing inevitable decline.
We are not wanted or needed by fans of Motherwell, Hibs, Kilmarnock, Inverness, Aberdeen or Dundee United. These clubs are competing in the best SPL ever with only one problem, a bloated club from Parkhead.
If Scottish football wants a way forward which will see a well-attended and competitive top league, ask the fans, do they need or want Celtic? Do they want an opportunity to feed into a regional league? Any reorganisation which fails to take the views of the paying customer into account will be a disgraceful failure.
Ordered the CQN Annual yet? It is a product of literary brilliance. Get it here in time for Christmas!

A self-professed and confirmed atheist who thinks people who believe in god are weak fools comes on and tells us about his priest’s sermon?
Excellent, God surely does work in mysterious ways.
Welcome back to the faith Tom, and in the spirit o reconciliation are you going to apologise to all those whose faith you previously scorned on here?
Kitalba
Was it not a good post?

The Catholic Church in Australia has been the subject of a witch-hunt for quite some time here in Australia. They, and all Catholics have endured a torrent of innuendo and smears by individuals with agenda and others with just mere malice. One in particular, the Attorney General seems hell bent on smearing the church at every opportunity. She seems very driven by professed and possibly undisclosed agendas.
I am amazed that a celebrated atheist has returned to the church and comes onto CQN to let you all know about the Royal Commission.
Kit
How’s that lay preacher getting on with his treason charges against prominent Masonic australian judiciary ?
Kitalba
There a many atheists that attend mass.
There are many in the clergy.
My uncle was a priest, and on hearing I fancied some Irish girl (maybe all of them) he got angry and hoped that she would never be married to the likes of me.
Well, she escaped (rather easily).
My uncle was a good man, and he was bright and creative.
But he wasney half daft too.
canamalar, are you talking about Graham Daniels?
Rascar Capac
“There a many atheists that attend mass”.
Maybe there are but I have never met one. Are there many atheists that you know about who attend mass and then ridicule the faith and the faithful?
Kitalba
This is Australian stuff, and I know nothing about it.
Sorry for butting in.
Hey.
I never ridiculed anyone.
I praised a religious post earlier.
I know exactly what the Church means to people.
I went for twenty odd years, many in my family still do.
I went when I didn’t believe.
So did brothers, a sister, and friends.
So you have met one, at least in cyber space.
kitalba –
Yes I was an atheist. I am no longer an atheist.
I have come back to the Catholic faith through the spiritual guidance and example of someone I love deeply. I have been attending mass every Sunday for several weeks now and am getting a lot of joy from doing so.
I am sorry you are not able to accept my post and indeed my renewal, in good faith.
I doubt if God will be demanding an explanation as to my previous beliefs, or lack of them, but He matters to me. You do not.
Kitalba
Ok, you may have been talking about Tom.
Time for bed.
Tom McLaughlin
So are you going to apologise to all those who you previously insulted on here?
I did not come on here for a fight.
I am out of here.
Kit,
Aye that’s the one, how’s he progressing through the legal system
Good morning all from a damp and drizzly East Kilbride. Dare I scroll back through the night shift…?
Jobo
I dare you but on your meteorological skills be it.

Good morning fellow Celts
I enjoyed the game on Saturday, the team were moving the ball about more quickly and a wee bit of zip in the play. There is a lot to commend our current team/squad, especially the improvement in defence which has long been an Achilles heel. Lenny seems to have found a good balance there and the 352 or even 3511 is promising, with last 16 ties in Feb there is time to tweak that formation.
However, I’m not too happy about the lack of movement from our front men when the game squeezes up – on Saturday Ghoops and Sammi (my hero btw!) were both guilty of standing about waiting for the pass into feet – that is a glaring problem and chokes our attack ( and its horrible to watch ) both Lassad and Tony Watt are much more mobile in those situations and I would like to see them utilised when the games tightens up
Our creativity in central mid comes under question – I feel our game is sometimes played in a donut formation -with a gaping hole in the ‘hole’ …if that makes any sense. Kris Commons can play in there and sometimes has success but tends to rely on winning free kicks as a tactic- Paddy could do it but is not preferred, we just don’t seem to have the type of player who can pick the lock in that area…. But part of the problem is lack of movemet by the two front men – they would probably make Iniesta of Xavi freak out due to lack of passing options. Although I’m sure those 2 would have a word and offer advice to teammates
Tracking back through the blog late nights and nightshift was once a pleasure – I’m going off that and one or two quite nasty characters have appeared recently – which is a pity as they are ruining a significant attraction of the blog. Maybe just doing their job…
Big shout out for Thin Lizzy on Saturday night – was unsure if anyone could ever stand in for Phil, but county Down and Glentoran fan (i know) Ricky Warwick, did rather well. Scott Goram blistering and melodic , Brian Downey thundering away – 2nd guitarist from Alabama gave a good account – but that bassist – what in gods’ name was he all about? Looked like an extra from a Mötley Crüe video – decent enough musician if ye close yer eyes :-) keyboards at Lizzy gigs are not for me but didn’t spoil a great gig I won’t wait another 33 years before I go back.
8 sleeps to go
Tom McLaughlin, if you’re still lurking I liked your post and your follow up.
MWD – you say meteorological skills, I prefer to use the word “eyesight”!
Hi ho time for ole Jobo…
Jobo
Do yourself a huge favour – don’t scroll back :)
HH
Morning all.
Congratulations to Wiggo on winning the Sports Personality of the Year last night. Probably the toughest year to choose for a long time.
Was a bit surprised that Sue hadn’t proposed Fat Sally for Coach of the Year. What a happy reunion (and potential world record) that would have been.

Bradley got my vote
There was a superb 90 mins on his ‘year’ on sky Atlantic last night – how did they know in advance? it might be available on demand ( mine is knackered for some reason)
Jobo
You do yourself a disservice.
Meteorologist around the Timternet dof their caps to your skill.

Last night there was a lot of rumour of an SFA scandal breaking this morning – anyone seen or heard anything? Nothing on the online Sun or DR that fits the bill.
