Russia and Ukraine set to merge leagues

784

In the most significant development towards the regionalisation of European leagues yet, Russian Premier League chief executive, Sergei Pryadkin, has announced plans to merge the Russian and Ukrainian leagues.  The plan has been driven by CSKA Moscow, Zenit St. Petersburg and Anzhi Makhachkala, who have formed a foundation committee.

Russian clubs already deal with the rigours of playing across a vast geographical area, so adding a huge nation like Ukraine would present further challenges, but top sides from Russian and Ukraine know that if they are to become genuine top tier clubs they will need to play in as strong a league as possible.  The plan is likely to involve feeder national leagues working below the confederated league.

Uefa president Michel Platini has already given the green light to the regionalisation of leagues.  The most important question for Scottish football fans, is whether SPL clubs would like to feed into a confederated British league.

The hoary old claim that SPL clubs need Celtic and Rangers has been shown to be a complete falsehood this year.  SPL clubs didn’t need Rangers and they don’t need Celtic either – if only those running our game had the balls to ask fans their views on this matter they might reinvigorate our game, instead of managing inevitable decline.

We are not wanted or needed by fans of Motherwell, Hibs, Kilmarnock, Inverness, Aberdeen or Dundee United.  These clubs are competing in the best SPL ever with only one problem, a bloated club from Parkhead.

If Scottish football wants a way forward which will see a well-attended and competitive top league, ask the fans, do they need or want Celtic?  Do they want an opportunity to feed into a regional league?  Any reorganisation which fails to take the views of the paying customer into account will be a disgraceful failure.

  1. Ntassoolla – no I dont and I dont care that I dont. What you need to do is learn to listen a wee bit.

  2. TTTT – yes I think that they have got the whole scouting system brilliantly right and I would feel immense pride in that if only they would stop treating us like turnstyle fodder??

    What about you?

  4. Good post Raymac and I would never say that Tony Mowbray was a failure as it was impossible to judge given that he was playing against a loaded deck with the refs and MSM orchestrating a campaign to keep the Hun solvent and in the Champion’s League.

Petec – there are two things wrong about that post.

    1) The huns were soooooooooo arrogant that the self destructed. It became a racing certainty and they went well beyond the norm because they thought they were immune from the certainty of things. Their arrogance killed them.

    2) The Board did indeed have the game rigged against them. But the truth is they never had the balls to deal with it. Its still the same today. Pathetic.

I’m not sure what you are wanting me to say, I like to look on the bright side of things and they have tried to minimise the hatred towards Celtic Supporters IMO by getting them to expose themselves as total cheats by themselves. Job well and truly done.

These same people are still in the positions of power and still have the most horrific hatred of Catholics, especially Celtic supporting Catholics and they probably claim to be Christians (Masonic).

Exposing them for what they are is crucial, the Scottish football public isn’t daft, especially as it sinks deeper because of its Leadership. Scotland is a fantastic footballing country. It is time to take it back.

The SFA has been untenable for decades now.

  9. Neg Anon—grow up? I was in Cupar street when the RUC charged about 15 of us and the first petrol bomb went in. I gave up,along with a guy called Sammy Lennon, at around 3 0’clock in the morning when the Shorlands came down the same street firing. I passed Father McLoughlin giving us all general absolution at Clonard Monastry gates, on the way to taking people out of their burning homes in Bombay Street.

I’ve been a union rep for NUFTO and for the NASUWT. I have had three number one records in Ireland. I taught the travellers for more than 20 years. My qualifications include a B.ED, a Cert.Ed (CDT) and an Advanced Cert ED in Special Education.

I have been banned from the BBC, UTV, and RTE–too political.

I’ve shared a stage with some of the finest players in Ireland> I counted Pete Seeger as a friend. Our Sinn Fein Cumann ran the Anti Internment Festival in West Belfast in 1974, the first of it’s kind. I won’t go on.

    But—“Grow up”—really?

    Do you know any soldiers?

I know two Royal Marines, both Tims.

One of them has done two tours in Afghanistan, or “Ganners.”

His first tour was just chasing shadows in the mountains.

    But his second was awful.

He doesn’t really talk about it, but I he told one story of running to help a mate who he thought was dug in, only to find half his body missing.

The other Bootneck has never been to Ganners.

But told me he has talked to around fifteen marines who have, and ALL of them have killed accidentally or illegally.

One talked of coming round the corner of a building and shooting a farmer on impulse.

He seemed really messed up about it.

    Others didn’t seem too bothered.

    Is that the enemy?

    He’ll do.

Putting the type of men that can get through RM or Para training into foreign countries will always result in atrocities.

And of course we still need them in case the baddies come.

Neg Anon – define “turnstyle fodder”. We turn up to support our club, but the domestic product (as The Bunnet called it) is pants!

St Mirren with 6 across the back at some stages yesterday, clearly decided that they would rather kill the game instead of having a go at us. Taking into account our poor home form, they really could have been more positive. Entertainment was not high in their list of priorities!

I’ve kept my season ticket/card since we returned to CP from Hampden, but to be quite frank I’m feckin sick of watching domestic guff like yesterday’s game. I don’t blame the board for that, we’re stuck in a very restrictive environment and as our host has already intimated, we’re way too big for the SPL.

I can only see a way forward through European re-construction, with us hanging onto the coat-tails of the big league clubs.

Why don’t you stop sniping at the board and offer some constructive criticism and a plan for advancing Glasgow Celtic?

  15. Raymac – I could tell you the same stories. But you need to be better than you portray yourself on the board.

Are the BBC really going to ignore ALL the penalty claims? My god they did – amazing.

  18. I have to disagree with some guys on here who are smarter than myself.

    I LOVED yesterday’s game.

Sometimes 2 teams, like two sides in a battle, attack one another.

Other times, one attacks & the other defends.

These two contests are equally valid.

Yesterday the attackers overcame the defenders.

I loved every single second of it.

  19. Petec – whats confusing – you said
