Russia and Ukraine set to merge leagues

784

In the most significant development towards the regionalisation of European leagues yet, Russian Premier League chief executive, Sergei Pryadkin, has announced plans to merge the Russian and Ukrainian leagues.  The plan has been driven by CSKA Moscow, Zenit St. Petersburg and Anzhi Makhachkala, who have formed a foundation committee.

Russian clubs already deal with the rigours of playing across a vast geographical area, so adding a huge nation like Ukraine would present further challenges, but top sides from Russian and Ukraine know that if they are to become genuine top tier clubs they will need to play in as strong a league as possible.  The plan is likely to involve feeder national leagues working below the confederated league.

Uefa president Michel Platini has already given the green light to the regionalisation of leagues.  The most important question for Scottish football fans, is whether SPL clubs would like to feed into a confederated British league.

The hoary old claim that SPL clubs need Celtic and Rangers has been shown to be a complete falsehood this year.  SPL clubs didn’t need Rangers and they don’t need Celtic either – if only those running our game had the balls to ask fans their views on this matter they might reinvigorate our game, instead of managing inevitable decline.

We are not wanted or needed by fans of Motherwell, Hibs, Kilmarnock, Inverness, Aberdeen or Dundee United.  These clubs are competing in the best SPL ever with only one problem, a bloated club from Parkhead.

If Scottish football wants a way forward which will see a well-attended and competitive top league, ask the fans, do they need or want Celtic?  Do they want an opportunity to feed into a regional league?  Any reorganisation which fails to take the views of the paying customer into account will be a disgraceful failure.

The links have always been there. Abramovich doesn’t have a clue, I’m happy about that.

Chelsea are the most undeserving Club ever to win the Champions League, I’m delighted that shower of dung won it playing the Walter Way as it shows how far Football as a game has fallen, the amount of money spent on that excrement is shameful. I’m Hoping that Celtic will once again Inspire many generations by their play and their philosophy. Money is a bad thing, I hope the Board listens to the grumblers and really reduces the prices for the ST next season. Get 60000 guaranteed every game take 40% off the ST and bump up the CL prices. I’m not an accountant but it could work.

  3. embramike – some team that plays anti-football that shouldn’t be allowed into the Champions league ever again. Copyright, some German has been.

  8. PFayr – I understand. But please take care. There are always dafties who want to be personal. I get it all the time. But I am pretty sure there are plenty who would accuse me of the same.

Celtic matter to us – enormously. For me its not the people who run the club but rather the people who support the club. For others its a love of those who run the club. Thats fair enough – even if I dont really understand.

Its important we can debate and discuss and disagree, occassionally fall our and then wake up the next day, apologise and move on and start again; Its especially important because, despite all that has happenned, our enemies, backed into a corner as they are have never been more dangerous. Those who run scottish society are rallying behind the sevconians. They are all exposed now – we all need to hold our nerve.

So please be careful about what you wish for my friend.

Neg Anon – “For others its a love of those who run the club. Thats fair enough – even if I dont really understand.”

I don’t know anyone who loves the people who run/ran the club! It doesn’t stop me appreciating the good work done by those same people. I’ve yet to see you apologise for calling wee Brian a “debt nutter” after he steered us away from the self-destructive path followed by our nemesis. I would respect you more if you did !

Desmond & Lawell have hacked me off in the past, but you have to look at where we are now with the great scouting and sound financial base. I’ve criticised them plenty, but credit where credit is due. We’ve no significant debt and we’re ready for any changes in the European football environment.

    Be positive! :-)
