Russia, Ukraine clubs called to Joint Championship meeting

972

A group of Russian and Ukrainian clubs hoping to form a joint championship have formed an organising committee and have invited top flight clubs in both countries to a meeting in Moscow on 18th of February to formalise arrangements.

The invitation letter states, “The main goal of our organization is the development of club, national and European football”

“In order to bring football to a new level, we propose to combine multiple national championships in one tournament.  Initially Ukraine and Russia will be involved but in order to develop the strength of our game, the league could be extended to all former-Soviet countries.

“We are convinced that this new championship will be a model for other territories; this integration process is the future of football.

“This initiative will create healthy competition, increase entertainment game and increasing revenues from television broadcasts and advertising – just some of the benefits of unification.

“All of this will allow individual clubs to benefit as well as national teams, who will gain from players working in a higher standard of league.  This is perhaps a unique case in sport where all participants are able to win.

Soviet Sport spoke to several Russian teams who confirmed they will attend.  Sergei Palkin, the chief executive of Shakhtar Donetsk, was cautious, suggesting Ukrainian clubs and the Federation need to act with unity, “I hope this meeting takes place but only after Ukrainian clubs have chosen a common position.

“Then we can decide who should attend.  The Football Federation of Ukraine need to be active, they can unite clubs and deal with the proposal appropriately.”

Note their points:

“Main goal… development of club, national and European football”.

“Bring football to a new level”.

“Develop the strength of our game”.

“This integration process is the future of football”.

“This will allow individual clubs to benefit as well as national teams”.

“Create healthy competition, increase entertainment game and increasing revenues from television broadcasts and advertising”.

Amid all the talk about reorganising our game has anyone had the clarity of vision to articulate the above aspirations?  Having lived with threats from “the big five” leagues for long enough other demographically-challenged countries are putting plans in place to allow their clubs a sporting chance.  It will soon be “the big six” and thereafter, who knows?

Why on earth are we worried about the number of lower divisions we have?  Regionalise or wither on the vine – and do your best to ignore any muppet who suggests taking legal action because he got his sums wrong.  The only change worth having will be consensual and will benefit all in our game.

You’d almost feel sorry for them.

It’s like the tide of history has gone out and left them stranded on the beach.

  2. Livi – I am with you on not wanting to go to English leagues. I don’t think I’d enjoy it. Commentators would be a night mare too – patronising the life out of us etc. Any loss or draw would be even more of a nuclear event than it already is – people get far too easily wound up with the Scottish/ English thing (or even the Irish/ English thing)

I have enjoyed being rid of the glasgow derby hatreds and don’t particularly want to develop any new ones. Fierce footballing rivalry yes please, geo political based hatred – nah, leave that for anyone still interested in the increasingly dull world of international fitba.

Give me Holland, Belgium, Sweden……. Good football, good beer and chocolate and eh, Sweden, well, er, yep.

That’s not to say there are not problems there. Dutch Hooligans would not be the best of company and being in regular competition is very different to the semi friendly environment of playing clubs in occasional euro matches.

Nothing is easy, but some things are worth more effort than others.

  3. I have no issue with the English.

I support a Scottish team and we should play in Scotland until a formation of a European league is established.

I don’t think we should be begging any league to take us I also don’t want to start at the bottom of the English leagues and work our way up.

I wonder after all the trouble caused by them this year what the SFA s thoughts of allowing them back in AGAIN

  5. Honest Cover Up – yep. It’s based on looking at the facts. Things are not good for them. They have made fundamental mistakes from the outset of Newco and practically everything that could go wrong has done – they should have prepared for that scenario. It’s like budgeting for CL football when there is only a small chance of it – madness.

My big problem now is knowing how to refer to them if another newco has to emerge. Present newco will then be Oldco, so what will present Oldco be? Should we have Newco 1 and Newco 2 or Oldco1 and 2? It’s just too much to take.

Suggestion for Charles Green: new motto – Liquidation, so good we did it twice……..

As one would expect, there’s a healthy debate going on over on hunedia.

Ha ha, Where do they get these people from?

    Dim hun 1 says:

“Once again – is there a precedent where a wealthy club has been issued a winding up order over a disputed bill? Something feels off with this”

    Dim hun 2 says:

“Was jim Traynor not employed for things like this?”

    Dim hun 3 says:

“Rangers official twitter is usually tweeting non stop about utter shite no one cares about but, now it’s gone quiet.”

Dim hun 3 is very concerned. The poor wee lamb:-(

have to admit I quite fancy a go at the EPL -or rather the English teams – if the chance arose, rather than a so-called Atlantic league.

I think the atmosphere with Liverpool, Sunderland, Spurs etc coming up to Celtic Park every second week would be much better than say Ajax, Brugge, Brondby etc.

Additionally what makes you think that there would be any more carnage with us going down to say Arsenal or Spurs than when Man Utd or Newcastle play them?

I personally think that given the song repertoire (I know, I know) of our support is much different now than even 10 years ago, there wouldnt be anything obvious that the english teams support would find offensive.

Sure they would want to beat us and there’ll be plenty of abuse flying across the stands, but i think this would only be in the initial couple seasons.

No doubt there would be the odd wee scuffle here or there (not fun for those involved i agree) but that can happen anywhere and more or less to anyone.

    HAIL! HAIL!

The other day you gave me the Duedil website to check some facts about Sevco etc.

    Many thanks for that.

We are told by Sevco that The Rangers International Football Club PLC is the holding/parent company for The Rangers Football Club Ltd.

Is there an explanation for why their relationship isn’t shown on the Duedil website for either company?

By: Phil Mac Giolla Bhain (published October 10th, 2012 at 2:24 pm)

I was slightly irked when the publisher of Downfall asked me to write a postscript.

I had submitted the manuscript and I thought my work was done.

However, now I am glad that he insisted upon it.

Although the book was a look back, the postscript was an attempt at seeing what might be ahead for Sevco.

When I looked at the financial stability of the new club with an SPL wage bill surviving on Division 3 revenues then I didn’t think the future was all that rosy.

    I wrote that:

“An insolvency event for the new club would, of course, be beyond parody.”

By now the piece by Jon Pritchett in Forbes has bounced all around the Fitba internet.

His prognosis for Sevco is not good.

“Unless some major, systemic changes occur within the current configuration of UK and European football leagues, I don’t think the Rangers math works.”

    He paints a gloomy picture.

Moreover, it is sketched by a North American business man who thinks only in terms of the numbers.

OldCo became insolvent over a long period of time and he sees the same fate for NewCo unless radical action is taken.

The austerity programme he prescribes would hobble even the efforts of Sevco’s inspirational and tactically astute manager to produce success on the field of play.

“It’s time to cut the fat from every department and rebuild an organisation that values every pound and demands a return on all expenses. If Charles Green is not willing to face the fans, explain the economics and risk the torrent of abuse in the short term, Rangers will shortly be back in the same place.”

Of course a question mark can be placed over Pritchett’s analysis because his data maybe out of date.

However, the fact that this piece has been published in Forbes by someone who had a backstage pass to the Duff & Phelps online Data Room should have the Scottish hacks looking closely at Sevco’s financial health.

If they REALLY wanted to find out they should be using their sources inside the SFA to get a glance at the business plan that Charlie and the boys gave to the chaps on the 6th floor at Hampden.

However, that might yield up more bad news for the Ibrox klan and that might hit circulation.

Of course the publicly funded BBC doesn’t have those commercial worries.

Perhaps it will soon be time for Ramsay to take another call from Mark Daly.

    The Postscript finishes with:

“There was something rotten in the state of Planet Fitba.”

    There still is…

  30. Now the interesting thing is, that if it is simply a matter of the bill being settled, then why don’t they just come out and say so?

  31. Hmmmmmmmmmm…….

    Ok, that’s Paul’s line.

The exchange between alextomo and huddleboard on twitter is somewhat revealing. Very curt responses. You might form the opinion they do not like each other.

I am surprised huddleboard seems to have known that a payment plan was reached. That is very specific information which presupposes his source also knew about the debt. I wonder what else his source knows.

Can it really be true that an agreement on payment for invoices dating back, let us say, 6 months was only achieved yesterday? Why not paid in full from the share issue?

I would not be surprised if there is some disinformation out there. It is still not adding up.
