Delighted for everyone involved in making Celtic the first club in Britain to be given permission to install Safe Standing facilities. There’s time for a seat but going to the football in Scotland was largely a standing undertaking for a century, for good reason.
Standing enables the creation of football’s now too scarce atmosphere, it allows people to shuffle in the cold and sing with projection. It’s also safer across more scenarios than sitting.
I have one (significant) problem with the plans……..
Celtic intend to install Safe Standing at the corner of the lower North and Lisbon Lions stands, including the Green Brigade’s area. The Green Brigade pitched up at this part of the ground one League Cup game several years ago, the area was no more or less appropriate for as a singing section than any other part of the ground.
The North Stand upper is the proper place for a Safe Standing section, front and centre of the stadium. It’s where the Jungle was, and if we’re going to come anywhere close to recreating the unique atmosphere of the Jungle in a modern stadium, we must select the appropriate area.
The Safe Standing section will have unique properties. The ability to stand all game, bounce around and generally be more active, will ensure it sells out, but it’s unlikely to attract the infirm, and it will never be part of the family section. It’s also not going to attract corporate business.
The decision where to locate this section is unlikely to be reversed until there is a major stadium renovation, and that’s likely to be decades away. A couple of decades out, there will be more demand for family and infirm sections, more demand for corporate and lounge facilities.
Football spent years failing to notice how people grew fond of comfort, shelter, safe and clean facilities. The trend is not over. Thousands will want to stand, but perhaps more will want access to lounges, video games for the kids and shops selling all sorts.
Celtic Park is magnificent building of its time but it’s not a 21st century stadium. The Celtic Way is genuinely stunning, but if we want to cater for fans in the decades to come we’ll need proper cafes, fan zones, bars, better toilets and a museum. We’ll need to make use of all that land we’ve acquired, but which largely lies undeveloped.
Real estate in the lower stands will be more of a premium in the future, we should plan for it now, make the Safe Standing section the New Jungle.
Sports Direct is not a travel agents – for the avoidance of doubt.

Agree there is something not altogether clear on this “when is a loan not a loan” scenario.
I wondered whether there was a specific date whereby Ashley could say “your time to pay me has now expired and I now claim x,y and z”.
The absence of such a clause might help to explain why king is stalling paying him (ie why pay him now when we are skint….wait till later”) Notwithstanding your valid points on income from merch etc.
Seems a very odd deal in many regards but I am sure it will be highly skewed in MA’s favour
“The Celtic Trust seeks to be a voice for Celtic supporters and to propose and pursue issues of importance to the support. We are always pleased when we find common cause”
Aye right – finding “common cause” is the LAST thing the ‘so-called’ Celtic Trust are interested in, indeed I am sure that most of their members will be incandescent with finding “common cause”, with the club whose name they use – who said they could use it anyway?
These people re the militant tendency within our greater support – they would turn our great club into a Irish Republican Foodbank at the blink of an eye.
They have no clue on what it takes to run a club such as Celtic – they are malcontents and have NOTHING in common with the true Celtic support.
I welcome the SSA, however to position them where proposed is, in my opinion, a sop to the Green Brigade, and a slap in the face to others. Paul is right, the ‘New Jungle’ is the answer, and surely with work not starting for a year, we should have time to discuss.
Yes we can develop the areas around the ground, however more pressing for me, is the need to ‘downsize’
We will never get 60,000, except for CL nights, which are few and far between – let’s redesign, with SSA, for a 45,000 stadium – lop-off parts of the large stands down to the level of the main stand, and upgrade all facilities to ‘top class.
The Huns will be back to challenge us and to write them off forever is fantasy – their hunger grows every year they are ‘in the shit’ – they will find a way, any way, back.
Let’s make sure we are ready for them – our only battleground, unfortunately, is Scotland; with its pub league and pub stadia – CL is a a dream that moves ever further away, due to the finances of European football – Poland, the Baltic countries, Austria, Holland and Belgium, will soon leave us far behind, even the Scandinavians will overtake us in the next ten years.
We can’t live off the Lisbon Lions forever!!!!
We’re on the road again

Van Dijk reported to be seeking a Celtic exit
VIRGIL VAN DIJK has been quoted as saying that he wants to leave Celtic this summer.
Wednesday 10/06/2015
Parkhead manager Ronny Deila has said he is desperate to hold onto van Dijk for the club’s upcoming tilt at the Champions League, but the 23-year-old is reported to have stated in a Dutch magazine interview that he feels it is time to play at a higher level of football than the SPFL.
“I’m learning in Scotland every day, but I also know there is more,” said van Dijk.
“I am 24 this year, I’m ready for something new – more pressure, better opponents.
“There has been interest every summer and winter, especially from the Premier League.
“I stood there open to it, but Celtic decided not to sell me at that time.
“Yes, I was disappointed.
“They must understand that as a footballer, sometimes it’s time to make a move.
“Of course, the Champions League millions are important for Celtic, but they cannot dismiss any interest.

I would think it will be very favourable towards Ashley. I genuinely cannot see an angle in this strategy from King, not one that works anyway. At a total loss.
Which I suspect TRIFCo may become in fairly short order too…

Going by this morning, he appears to have stumbled upon a bag of potent Es.

Dunno, mate. It was a while back. I wore it once, kaftans were very popular then,I recall.
Honest,it would fit AN TEARMANN and still leave room for JAMESGANG and LEFTCLICKTIC.
I just checked,it was made by MERCIAN SPORTSWEAR. Seems they specialise in hockey, but don’t have any outfits remotely similar to mine. So none the wiser.
If you want it for your mancave,I’ll bring it up in October. Or post it to you. It will come in handy as a smoking shelter for your wee socials.

I suspect you are right.
My own thoughts are that king will steer the zombies into admin and blame Ashley/lack of season ticket renewals/wee men from Mars for it.
Flaw however may lie if Ashley holds all the cards in an admin event.
Hard to see an upside for them in all this.
Crying shame really
Lop off the top teirs.
Haha hahaha
NOTHING in common with the true Celtic support.

You should reread you submissions before pressing ‘Post’, ya balloon.

“Doooooh dont know we have Scottish championship”
If they dont get back to me in a couple of days

Standing area should be in the main stand.
It’s the only way they bams will “stand up for the Champions” and join in the Huddle!
I also reckon thon Mr Pastry will end up wi’ skelfs in his erse sitting on that fence so much.
Spit it out sir. Say what do you mean for goodness sake.

Safe standing areas are unlikely to be safe on the upper tier due to the steep rake of the aisles. One of our fans has already fallen from there when he was unable to stop himself after tripping. (Admittedly his own fault, btw)
Also safe standing areas have to be at the rear of a section otherwise those seated behind them will be unsighted. The design of the stadium dictates that the suggested area is a very good place to start. Other areas may not be.
Whether or not that means that The Green Brigade get first dibs is irrelevant. What’s your problem with them? Are they Marxists, this Militant Tendency of which you speak? Or Trotskyist-that daft copper couldnae even get that right.
It’s a strange Labour Party you support,a very narrow-minded one which only welcomes those like you. And a very strange Celtic you support, for similar reasons.
Keep posting though. That way we can continue to take the rise out of you.
Aye lop off the top tier of the three biggest stands at CP.
The club could always sell off the surplus seats to other clubs.
HH!!
Cowiebhoy. I think if big VD wants to leave I would look for the very best price I could get and let him go. I have never thought an unhappy player was worth keeping they tend to spread unhappiness .H.H.
James Last RIP.
See there was a level 5 meeting this morning, and Traynor’s man is posting drivel on here again.
The Celtic Way – great
New Standing Area – great
Possible summer football – great
Official opposition to OBA – great
Early signings – great
No pointless pre-season globe-trotting – great
New Away top – great
Huns deed – great
Happy times… the sun is shining and even Kev J is smiling

BOBBY MURDOCH’S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS
I welcome the Green Brigade – their singing contribution to matches is a wonderful addition to the atmosphere.
I have nothing against them!
However like Paul, I believe the lower part of the North Stand i.e. the old Jungle, would be best.
The Labour Party that I support, is the ONLY Party EVER to do anything specifically for the poor and working class, right up to when they lost power narrowly, five years ago – one of the last piece of legislation being the minimum wage – add up all the pieces of legislation, targeted at the poor and working class, enacted by us in the last 60 years and it will amount to hundreds – now name ONE policy and/or proposal, announced by the SNP in ALL their eighty odd years, that specifically helps the poor and working class – there is NONE.
Been a bit busy recently , & not been lurking as much as normal but must admit although not knowing what has changed kevj I love his new approach

Other clubs don’t use the seats they’ve already got, they don’t need second hand ones when theirs are still brand new.

Afternoon bhoys and ghirls
Happened upon the excellent Hardtalk on BBC WS in the wee small hours.
Stephen Sackur asks the head of The 2018 Moscow word cup organising committee Alexis Sorokin the type of searching questions that we would all love someone in the SMSM to address to Regan, Doncaster, Ogilvie et all.

What was wrong with his last post?………..Factually correct.
Summer football will further alienate us from the ‘real’ football nations and will ensure that we are, where some say we belong, alongside the Scandinavian leagues, who are getting stronger, and the Irish and Welsh leagues, who I suppose would follow suit if we went to the summer.
Maybe we will follow rugby in the last chance saloon, with a combined Scottish/Welsh/Irish league – Celtic v Airbus UK, or, Dungannon Swifts v Celtic..appetising!!
MR PASTRY
Introduction of The National Minimum Wage was one of the first things Labour did upon coming to power, not the last.
Act was passed in 1998. Stick to the facts, mate. You’ll get there in the end.
MR PASTRY
Have the SNP abolished the bedroom tax in Scotland?
Mr Pastry
You are a ZOOMER and another one just to scroll past.
According to some, big VVD is wanting a move.
Cue panic in Celtic boardroom.
Not good.

Standong area is interesting (albeit too late for me!) I’m happy with my seat in the South stand. Also at 6’2″ not many would want to be behind me…
Ogilvae out but is he gone? Hope so….
Only one club in SPL opposed to Summer football…. think it will be us. Whilst other clubs may fancy summer football (most don’t have European football!) I see it as being detrimental to us aspirationally in Europe and in recruiting terms. In my opinion the International calendar is out of control and needs to be rained in. Summer is the time of sun (hopefully) , holiday and outdoor pursuits and preseason friendlies.
Roll on this EGM Friday….

In this climate of zomblie-like following of the SNP – we fight fire with fire.
I give the facts on what we have done in all the major socialist battles since 1945 – we are not perfect, but we have done so much, the nationalists have done precisely NOTHING.
How our ‘kind’ can troop into polling stations and vote SNP astounds me – they have never been on our side, they are not now and con the weak of mind among us to vote for them – they have nothing in common with us – they want independence and NOTHING else.

Im not a nat or a labour supporter.
But it seems to me.
That the Labour party are becoming increasingly divorced from working class people.
Imo….Andy Burnham and the rest of them…are more social democrats than socialists….they should join the Liberal Democrats.
Working class Labour supporters are facing a choice.
Just my opinion btw

Think big TG getting mixed up with 1999 and 2002 Scottish Cup Finals?
Lovenkrands Cup Final …..McLeish was manager?
Rangers won the ‘Championship’ that year too?……They couldn’t even win that or finish second in it this year lol….
Celtic pashed the League in 2002 and would have won the Cup that year too,if Bobo could have resembled a decent defender after he scored.
