SALES TALK: ‘THAT’S THE PLAN,’ ADMITS RODGERS AS SEARCH GOES ON

BRENDAN RODGERS is well aware of the demands of the Celtic fans to bring in new faces before the 11.30pm transfer deadline on Thursday.

The Hoops gaffer admits work is going on to step up the recruitment drive with German winger Nicolas Kuhn, signed for £3million from Rapid Vienna, the only addition of this month’s window.

Bologna striker Sydney van Hooijdonk, son of former Parkhead favourite Pierre, is still getting mentions in some quarters, but there have been no recent updates on the 23-year-old frontman who missed his side’s 2-2 draw with AC Milan last night.

Back-up to Kyogo Furuhashi, who has scored only eight goals in 23 Premiership appearances this season, is seen as a priority.

TARGET MAN…Sydney van Hooijdonk has been linked with the champions.

The Japanese frontman fired blanks again in the 1-0 win over Ross County yesterday where the champions relied on a deflected goal from Alistair Johnston in the first minute to secure three valuable points.

Rodgers admitted: “There are a number of areas we’re looking at. I can only concentrate on the players I have here. There are areas we are looking to improve on.

“Hopefully, there’s movement, that’s the plan. Getting that player in who can help our level and let us develop.”

Kuhn made his debut as a 64th-minute substitute for double penalty-kick culprit Luis Palma while forgotten man Alexandro Bernabei featured as a starter for the first time in this campaign when he stepped in at left-back for the injured Greg Taylor.

MATCHWINNER…Alistair Johnston (extreme left) watches his shot deflect into the Ross County net for the points-clincher at Parkhead.

The Hoops gaffer, speaking to the Daily Record, added: “Kuhn was in his mid-season break and had the issue with his teeth and he’s working way back so it was nice to get that feeling and get out in front of the supporters.

“Alexandro has not had many chances but he gave everything he had.

“With Greg the regular full-back it’s been difficult for him to have possibilities. But he gave everything, there were a few misplaced passes, but he got through the 90 and, hopefully, that gives him confidence.”
