Scott, Dedryck, your part in a very long story

467

There was a bit of chat last week that Celtic were ‘at it’ by signing Scott Allan. Sticking it large to an aspiring Championship club. Tempting, though it is to let that notion roll, it’s simply not true. Scott was right on plan to be a Celtic signing, and as I’m sure he’ll explain at this afternoon’s press conference, Celtic is the perfect move for him.

He is a young Scottish player with talent and enough potential to become a top player. Like them all, he is a financial risk, but not a major risk, neither his transfer fee nor his wages will significantly alter the budget.

The need for reinforcements for other positions is more pressing. Midfield is not an area where we are short, but signing Scott will have no impact on the search to reinforce those other positions. He will immediately enhance the squad and force everyone else to up their game.  If you want a place in that Celtic midfield, you will need to be on the absolute top of your game.

I expect to see more deals like this. If there’s a player who the coaches reckon has potential, and he looks undervalued, Celtic will try to sign him.  We want the best players in Scotland at every age group and in every position.  We want to develop a culture of self-improvement.  This signing will ask questions not just of Scott, but there isn’t a midfield player at the club who will not consider the threat to his position this morning.

For the best part of an hour Celtic were a joy on Saturday.  Having read so much about what the player went through in recent months, he must have been pinching himself as he watched fast-flowing, incisive, football.  They were a team full of swagger and confidence.

Ronny Deila would have been animated at what happened after he made the decision to rest some legs.  Two goals were lost as a result of Dedryck Boyata twice losing concentration.  This was an alarming sign but Ronny knows Dedryck has played very little football, less than two dozen games before joining Celtic this summer.

How to deal with mistakes is one of the attributes which comes form experience, a qualify which makes it less likely your nerve will be affected, resulting in the second mistake.  I expect the big man to be back at his Qarabag form for Wednesday’s Cup Final.

Jane Maguire from the Celtic FC Foundation was in touch after receiving a £1,200, from money raised at last month’s CQN Golf Open:

“I just wanted to thank CQN so much for the wonderful donation of £1,200, as a result of your Golf Day. The spirit and compassion of the Celtic Family is unique and unsurpassed and your gesture is a perfect example of that.

“Your support is invaluable to Celtic FC Foundation as we strive to honour the founding principles of our Football Club and help those who need it most. We deliver a host of projects in our local communities for children, young people and adults around the four key themes of Health, Equality, Learning and Poverty. The CQN input will make a huge difference.”

I know we talk about the bigger aspects of the club, like this, often, but it’s incredible how deep the links the modern Celtic support have with the founding ethos of the club. It’s no idle boast to suggest we are the world’s most ethical football club.

The trajectory is also impressive. Links from practically every area of the support, and the club itself, to the Foundation, and to individual projects, like our own Mary’s Meals appeals, are more frequent and increasingly more successful. You are part of a long story. Keep it up.

Cohen is a genius. Those who dismiss him ought to be forced to listen to Jedward for all eternity. Or the Clash.

  2. I haven’t read any of the comments. I have read the leader, as normal ,and the content from the fantastic articles…. and just thought I would share this before bed…

    The New Look CQN! !

The best anolgy I could use is with computer and console games. I don’t often play them now but when I did a regular occurrence would happen every year. Fifa 99 to 03. PES 06 to 13. Tiger Woods 99 to 12…. they were the only games I ever played so I guess it gives insight into my hobbies! They never managed to make a drinking game!!!

    Anyway….

I would be so embroiled in the previous version that when the new one came out I didn’t like it….. Why did they change this? Why did they change that? Etc etc etc….

However… .. once I got to grips with the latest version. .. I could not go back to the old!!

I feel exactly the same with the new look CQN now I’ve got used to it.

I use a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with no problems at all. I’ve had a few issues on the iPad that have now been ironed out… (please excuse my impatience as teething issues are to be expected with technology! ) The ads on the laptop can be a pain but a pain worth putting up with. Plus 90% of my time is now spent on phone or tablet.

The quality of the articles, both in content and writing style are first class. .. and the oh so subtle humour is also prevalent.

So big thanks to all the team that have managed to improve upon the best Celtic site on the Web. .. and there are a few, all quality and all relevant. I’m loving the genius that is theclumpany too….

Anticipation building for Wednesday and Wednesday week… it’s also my birthday Wednesday so a nice 5-0 would be a wonderful present! :-)

My confidence has risen for Wednesday’s game.

This match has come at a good time for us.

We have enough games under the belt and based on Saturday the bhoys are fully match fit.

There is a fine spirit about the team and they are now supporting one another well.

Broony is in imperious form, bossing the midfield and breaking up opposition attacks.

We have creativity from Bitton, work rate from Stefan and guile from Armsteong.

Ronny knows the capabilities of the players and we will have enough insight into Malmo’s key players, especially if one is Berget

A full house at Celtic Park can be intimidating and Malmö will feel emotionally drained as the game gets into the latter stages and they come under pressure.

It’s then that we should be thinking about bringing on Kris and or James to create gaps and chances.

I’m sure that Wednesday will be a memorable night for the 60,000 inside Celtic Park and the countless fans around the globe following on CQN, TV, radio, Twitter, other blogs, texts, telephones and cat’s whiskers.

    4-0.

  12. Marrakesh Express on

The msm interrogation of Scott Allen was once again way below the belt. The guy composed himself well in the face of a stream of loaded questions but you see the pressure he was under.

These scumbags will stop at nothing to get a headline and if it means, Heaven forbid, that Scott gets the abuse Neil Lennon received, well it’ll be tough luck as far as they are concerned.

In this situation it would surely have been wise to sit JC or Ronny next to him. Fergie used to do it and he took no crap from the English press stirring for trouble.

  13. Good morning CQNers,

I’ve just caught up with the news about Kevj – my sincere best wishes for a speedy recovery.

  14. Marrakesh Express,

I don’t listen to these “interrogations” that pass for press conferences by the SMSM. I would certainly agree with you that, if Celtic have to give them, then players shouldn’t be on their own. We know what the SMSM want and no matter what the Celtic representative says, they will twist it to suit their bigotted agenda. Kenny Dalglish did the right thing by taking them to the Supporters Club and the like. We should do the same today.

  15. MARRAKESH EXPRESS on 18TH AUGUST 2015 7:35 AM

Totally agree regards the laptop loyal . They have gotten away with it for far to long , because celtic fc let them get away with it . Had big jock or Alex Ferguson been in charge they would have been told to sling it long ago . Unbelievable that the club allow them to attack the club , players and fans at will , yet are afforded open house at celtic park .

  16. Hello, don’t worry, no boring fitness regime updates today. Although if you are in need of a sleep, another 5k rattled off yesterday in an improved time and a circuit class done on Sunday…..did over indulge on Sunday afternoon though.

Anyway, I cannot understand why we get upset at the MSM supporting their heroes, its a “dog bites man story”. Of little consequence and hardly a surprise. The Orcs have had a revival of sorts, they are swaggering about and one guy at my mates work cannot wait to play us as we will not believe how good they are.

After administering his medication he is making a recovery and is expected to be able to manage two pages of his colouring in books soon.

I swear that some of them are currently living in a permanent state of tumescence but not sure I would notice. That aside, I see no reason why we should not let them sail along as they are currently, their inbred feeling of superiority caused them to sink before and who says history does not repeat itself?

As I have posted before I like the way Warburton handles himself with the media; there is no matey banter and it seems to me the MSM are desperate to be “bessy mates” with him but are failing miserably. Yes he will get a soft ride from them and the fawning appraisals of his tactics and eye for a player ( the latest sign of genius apparently) are exactly what they want to write it keeps the unwashed happy and the sales stumble along.

The ramblings of BFDJ should be compulsory for all fans of unintentional comedy, he just can`t help himself but he sure sticks up for his team “that’s for sure”.

As for our own club, we face a huge 7 days…again. I will be travelling up the M6 tomorrow night as the game kicks off and hope to get the second half at my digs, well I will make sure I do. I am never confident when we play European teams nowadays, our naivety against Inter Milan still haunts me that and the lack of genuine goal threat. Hopefully Malmo will not be full of Mjallby types and we can expose them at set pieces? Hope we put on a show and sneak a wee win..#

Thoughts and prayers with CQNs Rhebel Kevin J, Patricia and Dominic.

Prayers also for Philbhoy and Olivia.

Aff out again but before I go the Club really need to do something about the MSM. For some time now it has gone well beyond reporting.

I’m happy enough with their “cheerleading” for the deadybears because let’s face it with a competent and investigative media their demise may not have come just as quick, but I cannot really understand why the Club provide a box seat to those whose sole purpose is to undermine and destroy us.

The reporting on Lenny was a bridge too far it appears as if it is set to be repeated with Scott Allan. With their refusal to confront the MSM over their reporting of liquidation issues, honest mistakes etc some on here feel that the Club strategy is the right one, ” don’t interupt your enemy…” but surely their is a duty of care towards our players. They need to be banned.
