Script written for Scepovic

886

With John Guidetti ineligible, Anthony Stokes is manager Ronny Deila’s first choice striker for Europa League action.  Anthony arrived at Glasgow Airport this morning but was sent home ill.  He was a certain starter, so whatever plans the manager made, a rethink is in order.

Stefan Scepovic made his goal-scoring breakthrough against Astra last month, and followed up with a goal next time out against Kilmarnock, but he was benched for Partick and Inverness Thistle.  Despite being third on the roster he’s likely to be the solitary striker role tomorrow evening.

This is a big game in Stefan’s Celtic career.  A European ground with an 8500 capacity presents a different pressure, and expectation, than Celtic Park.  Can he rise to the challenge?  Wakaso stepped forward in Salzburg and Callum McGregor did the same in Reykjavik, Warsaw and Maribor.  Both benefited enormously as a result.  I could make a case that Stefan needs this game; the script’s written……

Many thanks to everyone who bought the DVDs from CQNBookstore since yesterday, that’s’ the deal finished.  Will try to pull another together at some point.

Kevin McDaid death: David Craig Cochrane jailed over row with son

Kevin McDaid died after being attacked outside his home in May 2009. A Coleraine man given a suspended sentence over the death of a Catholic community worker has been jailed over an altercation with the victim’s son. David Craig Cochrane, 24, of Windyhall Park, was one of a number of men sentenced in July for their roles in the May 2009 death of Kevin McDaid. The 49-year old died of a heart attack after he was attacked by a group of loyalists in the Heights area. Cochrane was jailed for six months for breaching his suspended sentence.

The attack on Kevin McDaid followed an Old Firm football match between Rangers and Celtic.

Cochrane was handed a year’s prison sentence, which was suspended for two years, after he admitted a charge of affray. He was arrested for disorderly behaviour – which amounted to breaching his suspended sentence – just five weeks after sentence was passed.

During Wednesday’s breach hearing, a judge was told by a prosecutor that on 9 August an incident involving Cochrane and Ryan McDaid took place in Killowen Street close to the Heights area. Telling the judge the incident involved “verbal abuse and hand gestures to Ryan McDaid”, the prosecutor said there was a “direct correlation” between what happened in May 2009 and the “fresh offence” in August.

The court heard that as Mr McDaid and a friend were working on a trailer outside Mr McDaid’s home, Cochrane and four friends walked past. Cochrane shouted an abusive name at the two men and made a hand gesture towards Mr McDaid, shouting “you stabbed your da.” The prosecutor said this comment appeared to be a reference to a newspaper report that claimed Mr McDaid had accidentally stabbed his father on the day he died, but there was “no basis” for that allegation.

Cochrane was arrested for disorderly behaviour. He appeared in court on 27 October when he received a three-month prison sentence, which was subsequently reduced to six weeks following an appeal.

Gave his name as Mickey Mouse

Cochrane currently has three weeks of that sentence left to serve, and was back before Belfast Crown Court on Wednesday regarding the breach of the suspended sentence that was imposed in July. The court heard that part of the incident on 9 August was witnessed by a police officer, who saw Cochrane gesturing at Mr McDaid and who warned Cochrane to “keep walking on”. Despite the warning, Cochrane made a second hand gesture to Mr McDaid, and when he was arrested, he told officers his name was Mickey Mouse.

A defence barrister said that Cochrane was provoked and that as he was walking along Killowen Street with several friends, Mr McDaid saw him and shouted to him, calling him a murderer and threatening to kill him.

The judge told the barrister: “Your client started this. He knew what he was doing.” She added: “Regardless of what happened, he made hand gestures. If the police hadn’t been there, what do you think was going to happen? There was going to be a fight, five on two.”

The judge also said that while she accepted there may have been “some provocation”, Cochrane should have walked away – especially after being warned to do so by a police officer. Addressing Cochrane, the judge told him: “The appropriate way to deal with this is to give you a sentence of six months” which she said would be served on top of the sentence he was given for disorderly behaviour.”

  4. If Racing Club invite us to play a friendly, why can’t we accept the olive branch and show a bit of class? Why do we always have to be so intransigent and unforgiving?whether it’s Atletico Madrid, Rapid Vienna or Racing Club and no matter how many decades it was in the past, we are always so precious and sanctimonious.

Would it really hurt us as a support to embrace the offer of a game and say, “It was a long time ago. Let’s play football.”

Time for the Celtic support to grow up and start behaving like the Christians they are always claiming to be?

Would it be possible for Celtic as the only part of the Old Firm still in existence to trademark the name and then refuse to allow it to be used in any publicity for the upcoming LC semi.

Most of all the use of this term sticks in my throat.

Oh and another thing – Why didn’t they play in Europe in 2012-13?

Do you know, I have honestly never realised the significance of that until now. Why weren’t they offered a Europa Cup place? Other than the obvious answer “because they no longer existed”.

I know what I read into it.

Res 12 was not the top priority for the club, nothing else, I have no agenda here, just stating what I think and believe.

In any other business, where they had been dealt a hand where people were in a position to dishonestly misappropriate at least at a minimum of 45 million from the business, and possibly upwards and over 100 million with all the add ons, I am sure said business would take appropriate action, no matter the consequences.

That is a fag packet calc of 3 years of CL money, nothing else, although the corruption, the cover ups and the cheating us of many other titles may well add many, many more millions to that total.

Yet this kind of action against our club is not deemed a priority.

That mi amigo seems a very strange and amateurish way to run a business, be it a football club or whatever.

It is a shocking statement IMO, and I realise you are just the messenger, this is not directed at you, but that was what the club said.

Maybes we have that much money we can afford to lose this kind of cash !!!

As I said to Brogan earlier, maybes we should employ someone, like your good self would be a start, who has the skills to take the sfa to task, as obviously there is nobody at the club capable presently, and slashing a few bonuses would easily pay for such a person.

    Guys,

I wonder if you could maybe help out the kids of St Ambrose in Coatbridge.

They are looking to raise money for the underprivileged in Malawi and while we are doing things with Mary’s meals in Malawi this is just a little different.

Their project is called ” Bricks for Malawi” and below I will post a link to a short video which is worth watching.

Basically, as well as kitchens Malawi needs medical assessment centres where both adults and children can go and literally have their health assessed. These centres and the facilities they provide can save lives and provide basic health care that we find really run of the mill.

Currently, kids are assessed on a piecemeal basis under a tree, but with a basic assessment centre many illnesses can be diagnosed early, successfully treated and lives can be changed or even prolonged.

So — please take a couple of minutes to watch the video here:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEmHltqMUXM

And if you can donate to the just giving page here:

    https://www.justgiving.com/foundations/

I know I am forever coming on here and asking for this or that but with this there is a wee difference.

This initiative is being undertaken by a group of school kids from Coatbridge. I was asked to give a helping hand which I will gladly do but in my opinion it would also be good to show school kids in Scotland that football forums and football fans do amazing things and don’t just care about teams, games, rivalries, and what the MSM feed the general public with.

So — if you are from Coatbridge or an ex St Ambrose pupil or just feel like donating please do so — and don’t forget to mention that you are from Celtic Quick News on the comments page.

Sometimes people learn lessons in the most practical of ways.

Thanks for reading — and hopefully watching.

    Re: Newspaper ad.

Saw WC’s post this morning, and love the idea, so posted immediately.

Now, having had a bit of time to consider it, and having dealt with the press here for many years, I doubt that that type of ad would find its way into print here (threats of lawsuits, retaliatory ads would, I suspect, cause the papers to reject it).

Realistically, what are the chances that this will run? Wondering if anyone who knows has some insight.

I mean, no harm in trying, I suppose…. just really love the idea – would LOVE to see it – but trying to manage my expectations …. dont want to get too excited in case it doesn’t fly.

I think we have always been on the same page, for a start we want a level playing field first and foremost.

We want an end to the sham that is the sfa, we want the cheating, the corruption the lies the cover ups to end, and it’s people like you who are taking this to the fore, and for that I am in awe of you.

And for all you say you will chuck it, aye right, you will chuck it the day you stop breathing and not before, it’s in your DNA mi amigo to fight the good fight.
