Script written for Scepovic

886

With John Guidetti ineligible, Anthony Stokes is manager Ronny Deila’s first choice striker for Europa League action.  Anthony arrived at Glasgow Airport this morning but was sent home ill.  He was a certain starter, so whatever plans the manager made, a rethink is in order.

Stefan Scepovic made his goal-scoring breakthrough against Astra last month, and followed up with a goal next time out against Kilmarnock, but he was benched for Partick and Inverness Thistle.  Despite being third on the roster he’s likely to be the solitary striker role tomorrow evening.

This is a big game in Stefan’s Celtic career.  A European ground with an 8500 capacity presents a different pressure, and expectation, than Celtic Park.  Can he rise to the challenge?  Wakaso stepped forward in Salzburg and Callum McGregor did the same in Reykjavik, Warsaw and Maribor.  Both benefited enormously as a result.  I could make a case that Stefan needs this game; the script’s written……

Many thanks to everyone who bought the DVDs from CQNBookstore since yesterday, that’s’ the deal finished.  Will try to pull another together at some point.

  5. Have of our “elder” contributors ever came across Chinese (sorry Taiwan} medicine called Tung SHueh pills? I’ve taken them for roughly a week and the old athiritic knees have never felt better, maybe come back for the CQN Oldtimers 5s. Recommended use is 24 pills a day but I only take 4 a day. Will grow horns or any other defects? (season ticket for Uncle Charlies Big Hoose).

So far pills have great relief and no side affects

My dad had a pub in Blantyre, shut down when the main st was decimated by asda..bloody disgrace, only about 40 tenement buildings in the whole of the main street now..

  7. I was an avid reader as a bhoy. Ive got stacks and stack of football books in the garage.

I would read anything about football, obviously Celtic, but I also liked bios of old players.

I have a good one somewhere that talks about Scottish players in England, right back to the founding of the game, many many sad stories, Hughie Gallagher being one, Alex James at Arsenal, the guy White who died on the golf course and Alex Young was featured also.

I think Barney Battles was mentioned, what a brilliant name for a Celt and Hearts player, but maybe i am getting mixed up.

And a Barrhead bhoy at the turn of the century, I will need to go look for that book now.

  8. Rock Tree Bhoy on

    from the beeb…

Celtic have appealed against Aleksandar Tonev’s seven-match ban for racially abusing Aberdeen’s Shay Logan.

The Bulgarian was found guilty of “excessive misconduct” by the Scottish Football Association following an incident in Celtic’s 2-1 win over Aberdeen in September.

And Celtic have now lodged their appeal with the SFA.

On Wednesday, the Bulgarian Football Association condemned the ban imposed on Tonev.

The 24-year-old winger, on a season-long loan from Aston Villa, travelled with the rest of the squad for Celtic’s Europa League match against Astra Giurgiu on Thursday.

His ban only applies to domestic matches and, now that an appeal has been lodged, Tonev is free to play in domestic games until the appeal is heard.

Tonev travelled with the Celtic squad to Romania and is available for Thursday’s Europa League tie against Astra.

I have spoken to The Sunday Herald and outlined the proposal.

We have an agreed price which is £1250 plus VAT.

We have to submit the content and they will run it past our old friends at the ASA then the Editor will have final approval.

If the ad is banned by ASA we will have a story.

If it is allowed by the ASA and stopped by the Editor – a man many on here have great faith in given his support for the YES campaign and the subsequent coverage they alone printed re the George Square Unionist riots – then we have a story.

And we will publish the content of the ad in CQN Magazine, in the CQN Annual (print) and online.

Meeting BRTH this afternoon to discuss wording.

  12. Alex James and Hughie Gallagher probably along with McGrory the greatest Scots forwards of the inter war years. Incredibly born a few hundred yards from each other in Mossend

No to advertising in the comics which are the DR and Sun. The Ad in the Herald will hit the targets we want to hit by ricochet.

Amazed at the rate card. At those prices, we should take a DPS on p2 and 3 of the Sports section.

  18. Re the wording of the ad – just met BRTH to discuss.

Auldheid has a time-line that BRTH is going to get tonight.

We are looking at getting the ad professionally designed for maximum impact.

We discussed using some quotes – from Donald Findlay, Walter Smith and even often mis-quoted LNS.

Also some newspaper front pages from the day they died -RIP etc

We want to focus on the myth that they are same club that was unfairly demoted to fourth tier and also to dis-associate us from Old Firm tag.

We want to ask the questions:

At what date did they exit administration?

At what date did they exit liquidation?

We may quote various other things but we want it to be sharp and hard hitting visually.

We are going to ask other Celtic forums etc if they would like their names added to list.

We want to avoid the thugs blaming Paul and directing their hatred towards him as a result of this.

We are going to create two emails for comments – which will appear on the ad – where they can agree or disagree with the statements in the ad.

The second one will be horrible to view – but a rat trap nevertheless.

We will state in small print that the ad was crowd funded by Celtic supporters and that the surplus sums raised where donated to a nominated charity.

    We won’t mention the charity.

    Other suggestions welcome.

    Sorry to interrupt;

I’m in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Does anyone happen to know a pub where I can watch the game on Thursday? A long shot, I know, I gave it a bit of a google with no joy. But maybe…

    ———————

I was in Montego Bay early 2012 and met some very enthusiastic fans of their local side Montego Bay United. Try one of their supporters bars, as they were football daft. Alternatively phone around the big resorts such as Sandals etc. They tend to have every satellite channel in creation and you might get lucky there.

Forty-seven years ago tonight I was at a bonfire across the road from my house in Castlemilk. I can vividly remember my auld man shouting from the window that we’d lost to Racing Club. I ran up to the house heartbroken, where my da was already drowning his sorrows in whisky.

I cant see us taking part in any Racing celebrations in three years. The game was worse than Athletico Madrid in 74. They got cars for beating us, while the celtic players were fined (if I remember correct) £200 each by Bob Kelly.

In fact, ask Bertie Auld, Big Billy and Tam Gemmell what they think.

  23. Daily Record incurs Sevcomedian wrath:

‘A [SEVCO] fan hurled sectarian abuse at one of her neighbour’s kids, a court heard yesterday.

Social work employee Fay Smith called the child a “f*nian b*****d” after throwing a plate at partner Dougie Anderson during a blazing row.

Smith, 50, from Perth, admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner at her home in July.

She appeared at the city’s sheriff court yesterday and also admitted throwing a plate and shouting and swearing, causing fear and alarm.

Fiscal depute Lisa Marshall told the court: “The neighbour was in her back garden at 11.30am with her three children – aged 17, eight and six.

“Smith was under the influence of alcohol, going in and out of her house shouting and swearing at her partner.

“She was seen to throw a plate out of the kitchen towards her partner but it landed on the ground. She was shouting at neighbours, calling them ‘f*****g b******s’ and, ‘c***s’.

“She called one of the children ‘a f*nian b*****d’. This went on until the next-door neighbour called the police.” ‘

    ——

“Did [the] Sheriff ask who she supported? No sign of a [Sevco] top in that pic!”

    ——

“These absolute b******s in the Scottish media will spend the next three months in the build up to the LC semi final bullding up the hatred and stoking the flames of bigotry.”

    ——

    “Propaganda war continues..”

    ——

“And all the while the eye gets taken off the state aid ball”

    ——

“This is where the fans board should be springing in to action”

    ——

“This report states that the defendant is a ‘[Sevco] fan’. This is comment and conjecture and has absolutely no bearing on the reported case”

    ——

“Was it mentioned in court that she supported [Sevco], or was it because of the use of those words that [theDR] decided to put [Sevco] into his report to have another kick at us. I know quite a few people who don’t support [Sevco] but use these words to describe people of that faith.”

    ——

“if it was that mob in the east or any other team it’d be ‘a football fan’.”

    ——

“time the club took a more active role against this paper.Hopefully Ashley will.Articles like this one could imo, be construed as trying to intentionally damage the club`s merchandising/business revenues.Clearly no football connection in this story or evidence to link our club to story. That only leaves intent to damage reputation and cause embarrassment or financial harm.Get on it RFC lawyers.”
