Sevco and Gang of 10

895

We are three days away from Rangers creditors’ vote on the proposed CVA and my best sources remain strongly of the view that HMRC will vote against.  As a result, on Thursday, the process to liquidate Rangers will commence and Charles Green’s company, Sevco 5088, will attempt to purchase the assets of the business.

One of the first acts of Sevco 5088 will be to apply for membership to the Scottish Premier League.  They will offer the league an opportunity to retain considerable revenue streams which would be lost to the league following the liquidation of the former football club, Rangers.

Attitudes hardened towards a Newco proposition since Mr Green came onto the scene, specifically since Rangers raised an action against the Scottish FA at the Court of Session, but sentiment in football is fickle.  We should ignore all public comments on the subject of Newco and concentrate our minds on the SPL vote, which will take place next week.

Two months ago the Gang of 10 clubs thought they were in an ‘Arab Spring’ moment when they met to discuss how they would use Rangers demise as an opportunity to re-engineer the league.  Charles Green is aware of their feelings on this matter and is likely to use this knowledge to inform his offer to the league.

Expect Green to offer to support a change in voting rights if the SPL allow Servco a franchise in the SPL.  This offer would allow the Gang of 10 to not only retain much of their existing income streams, they would actually be able to bring in additional income.  Servco FC would benefit from being the first company to be able to buy a place in the top division of Scottish football.  The only loser from this scenario would be Celtic.

The existing voting rights protect Celtic from several hazards.  The most important two are the rights of home teams to retain match ticket revenue and a limit to the number of home games shown live on TV for any club.

You will hear lots of comment from the Gang of 10 that they are not interested in splitting home gate money but none of them have agreed to exclude this matter from the change in voting rights.  More Celtic home games on TV would be welcomed by armchair fans that live abroad but would see season ticket holders suffer as kick off times are moved to accommodate TV scheduling.  Neither of these matters will be addressed at this month’s SPL meeting but, if the voting rights change, you can expect to read about them soon.

If the application from Sevco is rejected, we enter a new world, where SPL voting rights will inevitably change and Scottish clubs will have to learn to cooperate with each other on a constructive basis.  As Celtic fans, we will embrace that challenge, but you can be sure that a slice of your season ticket money is being offered right now by people who have nothing whatsoever to do with Celtic.

I remember Dinamo Tiblisi destroying West Ham at Upton Park.

The two who did the damage were Alexander Chivadze and David Kipiani. Some players.

  3. Well played big Mikael.

He wasn’t too badly positioned for the second goal because most coaches like the full-back to be inside the post, but to be able to cover it. The header took him by surprise and big Ibrahimovic was definitely more to blame.

All right, Lustig doesn’t look like a very creative full-back, but what an engine. Good Lord. Especially after Sweden were chasing the game, he played much further up the field when Sweden were in possession, but still had to get back to be a more orthodox full-back when they were not. He looks a big clumsy when he’s running, but he’s clearly a tremendous athlete. Plus, the womenfolk in our house think he’s braw.

    Well done that Bhoy.

  13. Aye and the Dutch manager thought Edson Braafheid was good enough to come on as a sub in the 2010 World Cup final!!!! I rest my case.

Lustig deserves some time but so far he has been unimpressive in his celtic appearances..

  16. I think we need to give Lustig time to settle in at CP. Charlie Bhoy was not to hot in his first season and a lot of the support would have shown him the door in his first season back.

I think that he has shown glimpses that he could be a player. IMO.

In the jungle for Kokkola game. 70?

Vic Davidson was a talent alright but never quite fulfilled his potential sadly. I’m sure he scored 4 in the 7-1 rout of hun reserves 70-71. I was there and the crowd if I remember was 15000. A few weeks later they had hammered the huns another twice at Ibrox by 4-0 and 6-1. Kenny and Vic rattled in 12 of the 17 goals. The Quality Street gang.

To those arguing in favour of splitting our ticket income with other clubs I say this, with all due respect.

    Cobblers.

The way other clubs have acted over the Rangers thing, and with the near certainty of that club still being in the SPL they will have dragged the whole of the game into the gutter inhabited by that club … ourselves included.

I have not yet parted with my money for a season ticket, as I will not pay to watch a corrupt competition. As that is the case, how the Hell is someone going to sell me on paying to watch a corrupt competition with some of my money going to the people who made it corrupt?

We have a serious financial disadvantage when compared to clubs in other leagues, and that is in spite of us keeping the money we generate. Who really believes our money being distributed amongst our opponents would make them stronger? Not me. Mediocre players like John Rankin would be on higher wages. Dross like Lee Miller would probably have spent a couple more years at Aberdeen. Kilmarnock might have kept Boyd for one more year. Big deal.

Would other clubs be stronger? Who knows? And frankly, who cares? I know we would be weaker, and Celtic fans money would be funding Motherwell, Hearts, Inverness and St Mirren. And don’t try to sell me on the idea Rangers would be in the same boat; they have defrauded every club in Scotland, and that would be no more than the repayment of debts past as far as I’m concerned.

Would Scottish football be stronger? I think not. But we would be weaker.

It’s not on. I am already on the verge of chucking watching football in this bent, corrupt Hell hole. There is NO WAY I will fund corruption and the teams which keep it, and made it, corrupt.

Scottish football is the most insular self centered game in the world. It is not our fault other clubs cannot run their own affairs. I am damned if I will support any scheme (scam) which uses Celtic fans cash to subside dross elsewhere.

Some clubs are bigger than others. It’s a fact of sporting life. Anything that tries to build a false “level playing field” does quite the opposite. Why not give the “little” teams a goal or two goals of a start if you want to help them?

What is not on is giving them our money. Not in this lifetime.

  24. On that point, what’s folks earliest memory of a Tic game?

Mines was EC semi final v Leeds at Hampden, in north stand with mum and dad and flask of tea for half time. think flask would be regarded as an illegal implement in 2012, that’s what you call progress :)

  25. You forgot to mention Kazimierz Deyna from Legia Warsaw. One of the best from the Eastern Block. Best Polish player of all time.

I don’t really understand the logic of that position, James.

What could possibly be wrong with clubs receiving part of the gate money according to the number of paying customers they bring to the game.

It certainly would not leave Celtic out of pocket.

It would also incentivise travelling fans, that their club was getting something from their efforts in travelling round the country.

Each club, including Celtic, would be rewarded for the loyalty of their support.
