Sevco and Gang of 10

895

We are three days away from Rangers creditors’ vote on the proposed CVA and my best sources remain strongly of the view that HMRC will vote against.  As a result, on Thursday, the process to liquidate Rangers will commence and Charles Green’s company, Sevco 5088, will attempt to purchase the assets of the business.

One of the first acts of Sevco 5088 will be to apply for membership to the Scottish Premier League.  They will offer the league an opportunity to retain considerable revenue streams which would be lost to the league following the liquidation of the former football club, Rangers.

Attitudes hardened towards a Newco proposition since Mr Green came onto the scene, specifically since Rangers raised an action against the Scottish FA at the Court of Session, but sentiment in football is fickle.  We should ignore all public comments on the subject of Newco and concentrate our minds on the SPL vote, which will take place next week.

Two months ago the Gang of 10 clubs thought they were in an ‘Arab Spring’ moment when they met to discuss how they would use Rangers demise as an opportunity to re-engineer the league.  Charles Green is aware of their feelings on this matter and is likely to use this knowledge to inform his offer to the league.

Expect Green to offer to support a change in voting rights if the SPL allow Servco a franchise in the SPL.  This offer would allow the Gang of 10 to not only retain much of their existing income streams, they would actually be able to bring in additional income.  Servco FC would benefit from being the first company to be able to buy a place in the top division of Scottish football.  The only loser from this scenario would be Celtic.

The existing voting rights protect Celtic from several hazards.  The most important two are the rights of home teams to retain match ticket revenue and a limit to the number of home games shown live on TV for any club.

You will hear lots of comment from the Gang of 10 that they are not interested in splitting home gate money but none of them have agreed to exclude this matter from the change in voting rights.  More Celtic home games on TV would be welcomed by armchair fans that live abroad but would see season ticket holders suffer as kick off times are moved to accommodate TV scheduling.  Neither of these matters will be addressed at this month’s SPL meeting but, if the voting rights change, you can expect to read about them soon.

If the application from Sevco is rejected, we enter a new world, where SPL voting rights will inevitably change and Scottish clubs will have to learn to cooperate with each other on a constructive basis.  As Celtic fans, we will embrace that challenge, but you can be sure that a slice of your season ticket money is being offered right now by people who have nothing whatsoever to do with Celtic.

  1. Snake Plissken on

Surely Robert Prosinecki was the greatest of all those players from the Eastern bloc?

  2. mighty tim@21:33

He did indeed. Ripped Valgaeren to bits in Brussels after MON decided to play him at LB

We lost to an Anderlecht side who played with 10 min for circa 70mins

Not one of Martins best tactical nights that one

  3. Blokhin was a very powerful player.

Ibrahimovic ,not a fan of his ,but I hope he plays

    a blinder against England.

  4. Paul67 et al

Sweden had two good chances at the end, the first Williamson would have scored if Helmander had left it, but Henrik would have scored either or both. Should have had the draw

I now want Ukraine to win it and Shevchenko to finish top score. Utter joy there at the whistle.

Plus most other players in this tournament weren’t born when Rossi scored his hatrick against Brazil.

  6. Great Soviet players:

    Yashin- Greatest ever keeper?

    Blokhin of course.

Guys I seen: Dasayev ( brilliant keeper).

Zavarov. Protasov. Michilichenko. Ratz. ( all played in that great Kiev/USSR team of 80s).

Belanov- best of the best in that great Kiev side.

By all accounts Yashin is probably the greatest ever Soviet player.

  7. Surely I must be alone in watching this rubbish on BBC2? Give me strength. Britain in a day.

Lustig and Ibrahimovic both to blame for the second goal….schoolboy defending.

Our right-back will have to do much better, but he should be judged in a Celtic strip.

Methinks Lustig thought his 6’5 teammate would have cleared a simple cross, considering he has at least 6inches height advantage over Shevchenko (who for all his wonderful talent, is not known for being great in the air)

Ten Men – if any of our players stepped off a post like that in the CL or EL, then they would deserve a kick in the haw-maws!

  12. Some of those Eastern Bloc names evoke childhood memories for those of us of a certain age.

    Dinamo Tblisi

    Upjest Dosza

    Sachsenring Zwickau

    Lokomitiv Leipzig

    Wisla Krakow

    Hadjuk Split

There are dozens of them, famous names from behind the mystical “Iron Curtain”.

The youngsters have not lived with the mysteries we grew up with.

    Ten Men:

One incident. Another player also at fault, possibly more so. That said you’re an experienced defender and you’re on the post – stay put…

Nothing I’ve seen of this guy makes me feel he has a great deal to offer Celtic and my feelings aren’t changed by this performance.

    That’s all I’m saying like…

If you are a Celtic supporter, why are you so concerned about other clubs? I doubt that the Kilmarnock chairman is so generous, given his comments. Celtic supporters go to watch their team. Yes, we need opposition. They get to keep their gate money… That’s how it works. If they want lots of us to go to see them, they ought to invest in stadia which will accommodate us, but they won’t. Yet you would prefer to see our club hand away money rather than invest it in our squad. Oh well, I supose it takes all sorts. Are you in business?

  15. West Wales Celt

Lustig had a solid game. If the Sweden manager thinks he’s good enough to start for his side in a major competition, then he’s good enough for Celtic in the SPL

  16. Think the problem with Ibrahimovich is his mouth. Did he not proclaim himself to be the best footballer in the world at some point. I think this is where he gets the negative reactions from certain people, big mouth syndrome.

Good player though IMO never best in world though.

Inspirational & Patriotic English Band Denied Entry To England-France Match..

Ed Miliband called for calm as it was revealed that gimlet-eye hatchet-faced former KGB operatives denied entry to this colourful band of musicians at Donetsk Stadium today, despite explicit undertakings to Leggoland 1,by the democratic government of Ukraine.

Inspirational England band have been banned from Euro 2012!

An official protest has been made to UEFA after the trumpet players were refused entry with their instruments to the England v France match in Donetsk.

The seven piece band of patriots have been attending England matches for twenty years clocking up 300 matches of near misses and not so glorious failure.

Before setting off on the 2,500 mile road trip to Donetsk they contacted UEFA and the FA to ensure that they would be able to gain access to the stadiums with their instruments.

On arrival at the stadium they were refused entry with their instruments and had to leave them aside in order to watch the game which England drew 1-1.

The trumpet players are funded by a pie sponsorship scheme with their backers quick to issue a press release registering their dismay at being unable to give the three lions their usual musical backing.

“We are going to make an official protest about this matter,” the bands; sponsors announced. “There were no grounds for taking this disgraceful action, which is over-zealous in the extreme.

“Needless to say, we intend the band to be back in its rightful place by the time we get to Kiev for the Sweden game on Friday.”

England took the lead through Joleon Lescott midway through the first half but the defenders Manchester City team-mate Samir Nasri equalised before the interval.

In their next match England face Sweden in Kiev on Friday, with or without their trumpet players.

In other news,’Ed’ Miliband insisted that the flood-stricken Welsh were nearly as stoical as the English….but as they had not been born in London, went to Uni in Leeds, served a constituency in Doncaster..Tough Sh*t..

  21. If you are a Celtic supporter, why are you so concerned about other clubs?

Is that supposed to be an argument? I am concerned about Celtic. It’s just obvious that the club needs a competitive league.

I doubt that the Kilmarnock chairman is so generous, given his comments.

    ?

Celtic supporters go to watch their team. Yes, we need opposition. They get to keep their gate money… That’s how it works.

The Campbell Ogilvie School of debate, I see. I know that’s how it works: my point is, it’s bad for us that that’s how it works. Kindly explain how we are strengthened by the impoverishment of Kilmarnock.

If they want lots of us to go to see them, they ought to invest in stadia which will accommodate us, but they won’t.

Asinine – who doesn’t go to Rugby Park because of the accommodation?

Yet you would prefer to see our club hand away money rather than invest it in our squad.

We have to play somebody, don’t we?

Oh well, I supose it takes all sorts. Are you in business?

That was all that was wanting, total intellectual bankruptcy. I am self employed and make a comfortable living thank you. But if I was a 100 per cent subsidised social worker in Cheltenham, your case would be no stronger. Look up “ad hominem” next time you find yourself in the general vicinity of a dictionary.
