Sevco need clarity on SPL vote more than the actual votes

1395

News that Dundee United will vote against allocating a place in next season’s SPL to Sevco confirms what we suggested yesterday, that sentiment has swung against the notion.  Motherwell’s innovative idea of allowing fans (who have already expressed overwhelming opposition to the idea) a vote is further evidence that even hard-pressed clubs are prepared to make financially difficult decisions.  Suggestions that the Motherwell board should grow a pair and take responsibility themselves have some merit.

Stewart Milne has denied BBC reports that Aberdeen have decided to vote against but I expect this is a matter of due process more than any genuine indecision.

There was a feeling this morning that matters could be brought to a head sooner than 4 July if enough clubs publicly declared against Sevco.  This would suit Charles Green’s company as they would be able to prepare offers to Rangers players (who they are able to sign) knowing where they are likely to end up.  If they are forced to wait until 4 July, Sevco will not know what squad requirements they will need for next season before making a decision on what Rangers players to offer employment to.

More than SPL football, Sevco need clarity.  A rush to declare against them might seem harsh but it would be enormously beneficial rather than being forced to wait a further 12 days.

Ironically that’s the type of attitude from Rangers fans that has seen them sleep walk into oblivion, and is about to ensure that the new mantra of “There will always be a Rangers” is a mere pipe dream. I can’t see a new Rangers being in any league next season for reasons of being suspended, or even just being ready to compete. The amount of legal battles coming their way over the next year (or more) will make sure that their name and brand is so totally disgraced that no one would want to touch them with a poo covered stick. Such attitudes from that poster on Thomo’s blog only reinforces the country’s distaste for the supporters that epitomise the club.

  7. The huns going bust is great but it don’t mean a thing as long as RC Ogilvie remains in place, the total reconstruction of the SFA and Scottish football would be a great aim here, we as a country have fallen off the football map and our administrators are responsible for the disgraceful state of the national game.

Until there is deep rooted change at the SFA, well run clubs like Celtic and others will be pissing in the still reeking of hundom wind..

  8. Ernie, you want the board to tell Paul who in turn will tell you about these “proposals”?

Why not cut the middle man out and put all your 1000s of questions to the board itself. Paul has offered you and you only this chance.

It will be interesting to see how the mibs treat us when there are no huns in the SPL.

Will they try even harder to prevent us winning anything?

Any bets on the number of red cards we will get?

The hand of dallas will not disappear with the huns.

Pressley at Falkirk will spend season in the stands with other managers not “taking it on the chin”

On that note, has any journo asked Tony Mowbray how he now feels about his spell as Celtic Manager?

    ===================================

I think someone should go and ask Gordon Strachan too. His Celtic teams, not always the prettiest, came up against the ‘Unaffordables’ of Rangers from summer 2007 onwards while Celtic steadied the fiscal ship. He was also on the receiving end of some peculiar refereeing decisions particularly at Ibrox.

  15. Corrib, he played 2 times against Celtic. Once we were down to 9 men he sprayed the ball about. He had the space to do that. Next time he was completely outplayed in a 3-0 hammering.

Is he any better than our kids coming through? I doubt it.

It is quite obvious the Scottish football authorities have no appetite to punish Rangers properly the latest pandering to newco is to allow them to start life in Division one.The football authorities in Scotland are not fit for purpose they do not have the interest of all the clubs at heart this has been clearly seen throughout the Rangers/newco fiasco clubs in Scotland should put forward a vote of no confidence on the authorities.H.H.

  22. I am now as certain as I can be that Celtic will not play Newco next season. I am about 70% convinced that we will not play them for at least 3 years.

I am 50-50 on whether or not Newco will be able to gain automatic promotions just by turning up as everyone seems to think they will. It is going to be a huge ask for them to establish a squad to get them started, work out the level of player, coaches, managers etc they need and not be ‘held to ransome’ by these people who, when Newco come calling will demand a premium for their perhaps, ordinary services.

I suppose Newco could go and get former Rangers players like Sebo, Vignal and Ortiz. They will then at least have found their level……..

I am very optimistic, as I look at the facts surrounding this story, that Newco will either go in to administration, be sent to Div 3 or make a mess of themselves in a New SPL2 set up. (I don’t see the new SPL set up getting off the ground) I don’t see Newco gettig a team together for the start of a new season.

Honestly, if you were in the shoes of a former rangers fan looking at the new club that you hoped would replace your old one, would you be optimistic?

  24. After reading that article in the DR about more bending of rules to suit 1 team if it’s true then i won’t be back.

The original rule was any club going into liquidation gets demoted to 3rd division then they changed it to 6 panel members vote then they changed it to SPL clubs to decide and now they’ve changed it to cheats going into division 1.

Last night i disagreed with James Forrest but now he may be correct.

How many years does Scottish Football need to out up with cheats in our governing body who bend rules but never apply the correct ones and us as Celtic fans know only to well how they work.

Scottish Football is a corrupt set up and it will never change while the cheats are in charge, Campbell Ogilvie enough said.

Is that Aluko in dispute with himself again about wages and contracts?

I wonder how he does it…does he just stand in front of a mirror – or does he do a ‘Tommy Cooper’ with his left side dressed in Rangers (Deceased) kit and the right side with a suit and a camel hair coat?

  27. Philbhoy - It's just the beginning! on

I believe it is vital we do not lose our focus as the huns implode.

We must keep our eyes on the prize(s).

Remember we won one out of three last season, when we were favourites for the treble.

We will make more money from good runs in the CL, especially if we can get out of the group stages, creating a huge financial gap between us and them from which i do not think they will recover, ever.

We’ve got potentially three years CL football, without the huns participation.

Make the most of it Celtic!

PS But mind and win the league too!
