Sevco need clarity on SPL vote more than the actual votes

1395

News that Dundee United will vote against allocating a place in next season’s SPL to Sevco confirms what we suggested yesterday, that sentiment has swung against the notion.  Motherwell’s innovative idea of allowing fans (who have already expressed overwhelming opposition to the idea) a vote is further evidence that even hard-pressed clubs are prepared to make financially difficult decisions.  Suggestions that the Motherwell board should grow a pair and take responsibility themselves have some merit.

Stewart Milne has denied BBC reports that Aberdeen have decided to vote against but I expect this is a matter of due process more than any genuine indecision.

There was a feeling this morning that matters could be brought to a head sooner than 4 July if enough clubs publicly declared against Sevco.  This would suit Charles Green’s company as they would be able to prepare offers to Rangers players (who they are able to sign) knowing where they are likely to end up.  If they are forced to wait until 4 July, Sevco will not know what squad requirements they will need for next season before making a decision on what Rangers players to offer employment to.

More than SPL football, Sevco need clarity.  A rush to declare against them might seem harsh but it would be enormously beneficial rather than being forced to wait a further 12 days.

It can’t be helped especially when they have been getting favours for years and surely you can understand that.

On 4th July its only the application to the SPL that is being considered – when this fails then they would have to make an application to the SFL who no doubt have their own rules. The question is on what basis would a new club have any entitlement to enter Div 1 of the SFL – I would suggest none – Div 3 here they come

  12. Why would anyone who had a season ticket for the former Rangers not have cancelled their direct debit? Are they even more stupid than we have always though?

Why would you pay any of them money without knowing what is going to happen? Why take the chance on paying out and ending up with nothing? Would you trust any of this mob with your cash?

If the Thistle fans are anything to go by, Div1 fans feel as strongly as SPL fans do. And they’ve seen what fan power can do.

I don’t see how they can be allowed into SFL1 without a vote and can’t see them winning a vote there. They can’t be ‘relegated’ to Div 1 without first being voted into SPL.

They are deader than I dared to believe.

  14. henr1k – Nothing would surprise me. Their desire to be reunited with rangers, in any form, is almost touching. Like a man who lost a cherished partner, and finds her tantalising shadow in a flawed relica which he must have.

Anyone with half a brain at Rangers as was would know that SFL3 is a smart move. Putting a winning team on the park at low cost is both a business and football winning formula.

If they came out and said it was the path to atonement and went there voluntarily rather than with snide GIRUYs they would discover that moral ground is a good place to stand, might even come to appreciate its benefits or soul and purse. Their problem is a) lacking the half brain b) the SFA/SPL trying to keep their absence as short as possible for commercial reasons rather than accepting that long term commercial considerations that are based on integrity are more secured ground than a short term fix..

This late attempt by SFA/SPL/SFL to cobble together a deal is too late to have the desired effect of giving sporting integrity its place. The contamination has not been addressed and the poor SPL2 supporters are going to know what it is like to play uphill for a season, for if the idea of SPL2 is that Newco will only be away for a season then that objective totally undemines the integrity of SPL2. It will be SPL1 in 2010 all over again, just with less supporters pissed off but just as pissed off.

Not only that it makes Sky the real bad guys in the eyes of Scottish Football supporters and I’ll be cancelling my subscription. (I did before but they came back with a deal that gave me it for next to nothing, but Sky are now part of the integrity problem, which is why the idea for SPLTV has now to be pursued.

I find the failure of Doncaster Regan and others to appreciate this Humpty is beyond repair disappointing. The only advantage a demotion to SPL2 would have is that less supporters will turn their backs on their clubs than if it was SPL1 Newco entered but our game will be forever soured by Sky.

It is not reported if Walter will appear in person to collect it or if Chico Green (really loving this guy) has put a claim on it as the rightful heir of Deadco..

I don’t know anything about this university but given that they are handing out degrees for sporting “achievements” I do wonder if,when they hand out exam papers to their students, they also hand out the answers.

It’s not the opinion that makes me laugh. It’s the ever changing opinion that is hilarious. Opinion based on nothing but hearsay and assumptions.

Every time a factual piece of information comes out (100% in favour of No to Newco) we see the mood of the blog change as the blog to a man/women celebrate. Then a wee bit of bad news comes to the fore, usually in the form of apparent governing bodies attempts to manipulate the situation, some of our number delve into the depths of despair. Yet time and time again whatever attempts and lengths our governing bodies go to doors are being slammed in their faces almost daily.

There never has been a rule or article of association of the SFA/SPL/SFL that could or can allow a member (in this case x-member) club be demoted from the SPL to the SFL. For such a situation to occurr it will take gerrymeandering of epic proportions to allow a club with no history, no accounts, a club who have never played a game, a club with no players join either the SPL or the SFL’s premier division. We are 6 weeks away to the day from the start of the new league season. The SPL vote does not take place until the Wednesday the 4th of July and that already appears to be dead in the water. The SFL would then need to organise a meeting, put forward a proposal and vote on changing its own rules, just as the Neil Doncaster) has attempted to do. All in order to allow its member clubs to then arrange a meeting to vote on a yet to be confirmed proposal to accept a new company , a new company that is not yet a member of the SFA and currently unable to meet membership requirements for any of the 3 governing bodies join it’s league setup in its top division.

    It’s not going to happen.

Any attempt to gerrymeander a new SFA setup comprising both the SPL and SFL setups who have not been able to agree on change for years is laughable.

My advice. Keep Calm. Let the situation play out and enjoy the sound of more doors slamming in the face of SEVCO.

Good morning fellow Celts blues skies over Hampshire now

All those guys you see at games around the country… Never say much, always there in all weather. Nod to those around when they take their seat polite, courteous, never give or take offence. Stand and applaud when their team scores, also appreciate and sometimes applaud a good goal or move, or individual skill from opponents.

They are at every ground in Scotland. They love football. They normally don’t get involved in politics or angry debate. However, they will have strong views and opinions, that they may share from time to time with close family and friends over a beer or a nice wee dram.

They don’t expect much from their investment, just watching players do things with a ball the can no longer do, or once dreamed of doing. They also expect honesty and a level playing field. They haven’t being getting that for a long time.

They have had enough and their voices are being heard.

From reading back, I agree Tony Mowbray is a good man. However he was a dreadful Celtic manager.

Mogga’s team threw away leads at Tannadice, Tynecastle, Pittodrie and Falkirk.

    They lost at Kilmarnock.

They lost 4-0 at St Mirren.

Yes, he suffered horrible refereeing decisions in each game against our ex rivals, but their cheating doesn’t hide the fact he wasn’t up to the job.

Mowbray’s side were victim of so called offsides against Falkirk for a start,I remember Samaras I think right at the death scoring a perfectly good goal given offside.

I’m not going to go into it every one but that’s why it was the season of honest mistakes, get each of those games you mention and place them against Tony Bananas honest mistakes article.

As for the Killie game,I believe he didn’t have a choice not to throw in all of our new sign8ngs that game.

I’m not saying Mowbray was great but analyse the games and there is in mist cases mitigation.

  27. What’s to stop them taking over a team in one of the lower divisions, sticking the myth in as chairman, renaming said club and giving out a rallying call to Orcs everywhere?

  28. …the real joke is for a fraction of what the THE defunct klub have been found out for…..that mob should be banned sine die…..period.

    Never mind Div 3.

  29. Just in from the shops and seen the back page of the DR. (No I don’t buy it)

Couldn’t stop myself laughing. The fact that they talk of ‘Rangers’ being in the First Division for a start. They really do treat their readers, and the rest of Scotland, in contempt. They keep talking of Rangers Why mention ‘Rangers’at all?

Because they have to sell newspapers – today. And next week it will be another ‘good news’ story about ‘Rangers’, then another and another until the truth dawns on the Hun masses. Rangers, 1872, is dead. The new club that replaced them is not ”Rangers’.Even though the DR tells them it is.

Maybe we should heve a bet on when that day arrives. I’ll get in first. I’ll opt for…..let’s see. 15th August 2016

I’ll almost be as happy when Traynor and Jackson go than I am at the moment.

Shame about Traynor….he used to be a journalist.
