SFA chief executive, Stewart Regan, clearly sees opportunity among the carnage that is Scottish football at the moment as he leaked plans to ambush clubs into a radical overhaul of the league structures to the media yesterday.
Henry McLeish made several recommendations in his paper on the future of our game, one of which was for a smaller professional setup of two leagues (SPL 1 and SPL 2), sitting on top of a grass-roots pyramid of community based clubs, as well as a 10-team top division. I agreed with both recommendations but relegation-dodgers in the SPL refused to countenance such a deal.
While it seems a 10-club top division is as far away as ever, the SFA are keen to push through a SPL 2 proposal before the start of the new season, something which borders on ultra-ambitious.
An unattributed SFA source (surely Regan himself) briefed BBC’s Jim Spence on their plans but the language was curious:
“Someone has to take a lead and sort out the internal bickering and point scoring and also to ensure that the Rangers situation never happens again.
“We need to use the mood for change among supporters in the country to tackle the current inertia and do what is right for the game.
“Change has to be democratic, but the time for talking has passed. We need action now to save the game.
“The fans are demanding fundamental change. The Rangers situation has intensified the need for a resolution and, over the next few weeks, we will meet with the SPL and SFL to find a solution.”
In order to “ensure the Rangers situation never happens again”, why don’t the SFA start by ensuring former directors of Rangers, who participated in the controversial EBT scheme which precipitated the crisis, are removed from the SFA board?
The SFA president received loans from Rangers EBT which he did not repay despite the club going bust last week. There is a belief that those loans were never meant to be repaid and that many of Rangers EBT loans were accompanied by written confirmation that they were never to be repaid, making these ‘loans’ an illegal tax scam.
The SFA chief executive claimed to have investigated and cleared the president of any wrong-doing. No one else is aware of this investigation. There is a suspicion that all he did was listen to the president’s version of events, compounding an already dreadful situation for the SFA.
We would love to hear how Mr Ogilvie explained why he didn’t repay his loan.
Two weeks ago we spoke about the SFAs inadequate corporate governance on these matters. If only corporate governance was the extent of the problem, they appear quite shameless.
“Someone has to take the lead…. tackle the current inertia and do what is right for the game”.
Sack the clown before you start to preach to the rest of the game.

So to take that to extreme, what if every Celtic fan boycotts, or doesn’t renew, or say half do.”
What would happen is that the Celtic Board would have to take whatever action was necessary to ensure that fans did renew.
As things stand they don’t have that pressure.
The wording of the season book renewals suggests they are prepared to countenance a newco huns in the SPL.
Not enjoyin this Port v Holl game.
Not enough defensive play.
Men Behind the Ball RFC.
So will Lee Wallace play for the new club next season in the SPL when the old club never paid Hearts the transfer money?
prestonpans bhoy
good point – I am sure most clubs with any financial nouse wouldn’t give them the time of day never mind credit
Cant speak for anyone else but if ANY NEW CLUB is allowed to jion Scottish football anywhere other than Div 3or less then i will not attend another game whilst we are involved in the corrupt set up
I understand the punishing of my club argument but in my case the money I would spend on my ST I will spend solely and directly to CELTIC FC and if they can sell the seat I vacate then all the better my club will not lose out financally through my decision .If they are in the spl I could not attend
Put Celtic in the grubber,DO NOT RENEW YOUR
SEASON TICKETS………give more ammo to the
feckers that we cannot live without them.

Which might be relevant if Jim McColl didn’t have about £700m in his back pocket.
ernie
Would this help persuade you to renew :-)

I would like to see Germany and Denmark in and Portugal and Holland out.
Sorry try this instead.

And it changes again. Good fun this.
That goal by Portugal…
Can’t stand to see goals like that……they should have been workin more on the defendin.
Ernie
The reasons he has 700m in his back pocket is that he doesn’t thow money away – time will tell
It’s a changing world that Germany has taken over Holland in people affections, Holland used to be everyones 2nd team.
Goal Ronny, what’s that 5 tournaments scored in and not yet 30.

Lennybhoy,
Nice to hear from you and I hope all is well at the Big Tree, brothers included. You know my working background and I am absolutely sure that HMRC can INSIST on any new company paying a bond in advance of it’s tax liabilities. Anyway nice to see big Paul Elliot awarded for his fight against racism. Do you remember those bad days!
Ernie
reasons = reason
I blame the the drink
ASoD
Or Reggie Blinker…..
Zbyszek – one each in both games, so you might get your wish.
Surprised you want the Germans to do well, when they nicked some of your players!!

They must have about 1,000 season ticket holders. Can you imagine the mess Celtic would make of that.

Or Peter Van Vossen
If Newclub are same as the old one with all the history intact, how come they are not on the fixture list and we have Club 12 instead?

I’d rather have a financial incontinent like Murray running them than someone as prudent as McColl.
All about opinions and I like reading all of those on here, I personally wouldn’t argue with any of those that I’ve read. As has already been stated, we’re all entitled.
A bit like when some of my amigos wouldn’t set foot inside Ibrox even to support the hoops as they wouldny encourage ‘them’ with their own money. I never argued with that either as they were entitled too. Me? Well I did go and support the Celtic anywhere and any time I got the chance. None of the above mates argued with me on that. It was my choice.
It’s also my opinion that our board has been absolutely right to haud their collective wheessht whilst the web of deceipt has begun to unravel over at the den of iniquity. And I believe that they should continue to do so. Up to a point.
That point would for me, be a situation where the THE are ghosted back into the SPL. That is the point where, after having voted in the manner that I trust they will, our board should be very clear that Celtic will not accept the authority of an organisation sufficiently corrupted to facilitate such a travesty, by refusing to buy or sell tickets for any match that involves the THE, and further, will not even play against them either. Home or away.
That’s what I think anyway. I will not forgive the generation of cheating that we have been subjected to. They won’t even say sorry for goodness sake, regardless of whether that apology would be construed as an admission of guilt on their part. If they can’t put a hand up and admit that they were wrong then they deserve to suffer the fullest consequence. Which, for me, is nothing less than them being banned from playing professional football in this country. For ever, and in whatever guise they try to reinvent themselves in.
This current game, where… no they’re not the same Rangers as before when it comes to debt and cheating and lying and colluding, but… yes they are the same ones when it comes to their history and records and supporters, is making me feel physically sick.
And personally, yes I’ve joined the band of amigos that will never set foot in ‘there’ again. Or to be honest, anywhere that ‘they’ are playing, even if it’s against the hoops, and ok, I know I won’t be missed, but I won’t miss them either.
Generation of cheats. Be gone.
Hail Hail,
KevinBhoy.
Watching the Holland game reminds me of the Orange Rank top in honour of their dutch players and how much it annoyed my late father.
Hope their loss rips their hearts out.
Raise a glass to you big pal.
I was never the best son, but I had the joy of having a fantastic father who was also my best mate!

Come on even the Engerlish :O) don’t expect anything these days.
I was thinking more generally, the Dutch were always the Euro Brazils they played the game the right way and now 2012 and people want the Germans to win instead. Times the are a changing.
Though I like Ronaldo and hope he upsets everyone on here and scores the winner to send Portugal through.

Yes your Brothers are well, not been in the Big Tree since season ended.
I do indeed know your business. I have a knowledgeable friend and well placed to inform on the issue of the bond. He informs me that there are scenarios where HMRC can insist on a bond. However, as there is nobody from the club that existed 1872-2012, then it is unlikely the will insist on the bond but you never know.
Keep the Faith!
Hail Hail!

If he is prudent he will build the team over a number of years -he will still want a ROI – unlike David Murray who was on an ego trip supported by the banks – bring it on
The fans of DEADCLUB fc cannot say they were duped :)))
they were well warned.

Last night was a productive swaray.

normally during these tournaments you can’t turn a corner without seeing a St George cross from a car or a house – but this time its a bit low key – however if they qualify to the next stage i am sure normal service will resume

We have no problems with Klose and Podolski. Both made a right choice IMO. No calls from Poland when Germany offered places in the squad. I think that big majority respect that here. They say their hears are Polish but they play for them. Podolski is closer to my country. He has Polish girl, spends holidays here, travels to Poland to teach children how to play football.
Polish – German relations are not bad in contrary to Polis – Russian relations. But this is for another very long post. This what happened in Warsaw before the game Poland vs Russia is for interesting article.
Saint George’s Cross – nae wonder!
They’ll qualify now but really they aint winning it, and the fans know it so don’t grudge them their fun.
The most annoying so and so in the tournament is Hansen and he’s not even English.
