SFA keen to change others while retaining their architect of destruction

1003

SFA chief executive, Stewart Regan, clearly sees opportunity among the carnage that is Scottish football at the moment as he leaked plans to ambush clubs into a radical overhaul of the league structures to the media yesterday.

Henry McLeish made several recommendations in his paper on the future of our game, one of which was for a smaller professional setup of two leagues (SPL 1 and SPL 2), sitting on top of a grass-roots pyramid of community based clubs, as well as a 10-team top division.  I agreed with both recommendations but relegation-dodgers in the SPL refused to countenance such a deal.

While it seems a 10-club top division is as far away as ever, the SFA are keen to push through a SPL 2 proposal before the start of the new season, something which borders on ultra-ambitious.

An unattributed SFA source (surely Regan himself) briefed BBC’s Jim Spence on their plans but the language was curious:

“Someone has to take a lead and sort out the internal bickering and point scoring and also to ensure that the Rangers situation never happens again.

“We need to use the mood for change among supporters in the country to tackle the current inertia and do what is right for the game.

“Change has to be democratic, but the time for talking has passed. We need action now to save the game.

“The fans are demanding fundamental change. The Rangers situation has intensified the need for a resolution and, over the next few weeks, we will meet with the SPL and SFL to find a solution.”

In order to “ensure the Rangers situation never happens again”, why don’t the SFA start by ensuring former directors of Rangers, who participated in the controversial EBT scheme which precipitated the crisis, are removed from the SFA board?

The SFA president received loans from Rangers EBT which he did not repay despite the club going bust last week.  There is a belief that those loans were never meant to be repaid and that many of Rangers EBT loans were accompanied by written confirmation that they were never to be repaid, making these ‘loans’ an illegal tax scam.

The SFA chief executive claimed to have investigated and cleared the president of any wrong-doing.  No one else is aware of this investigation.  There is a suspicion that all he did was listen to the president’s version of events, compounding an already dreadful situation for the SFA.

We would love to hear how Mr Ogilvie explained why he didn’t repay his loan.

Two weeks ago we spoke about the SFAs inadequate corporate governance on these matters.  If only corporate governance was the extent of the problem, they appear quite shameless.

“Someone has to take the lead…. tackle the current inertia and do what is right for the game”.

Sack the clown before you start to preach to the rest of the game.

Looks like David Longmuir has a bit more integrity those currently prevaricating over whether the remnants of a corrupt club are allowed into the SPL. Well done him! If the SPL is to continue it needs to do so without Rangers in any form!

  2. I just noticed that the BBC have updated there league table for next season with a team that does not exist in 9th place.

I have sent them the following on there site survey page under points you dislike about there site.

I dislike most of the Scottish football reporting and the bias shown with regard to a football team that is now in liquidation. This is compounded today by the listing of the Scottish Premier league for next season with a team named in 9th place that does not exist. This is also confirmed by the announcement today by the spl that Team 12 will be in the fixtures. It is about time your reporters followed the example of the new media or Internet bambots as some like to call them who provide trustworthy and accurate information.

So to take that to extreme, what if every Celtic fan boycotts, or doesn’t renew, or say half do. What kind of financial trouble would Celtic then be in through no fault of our own?

As ulysses says, it’s an emotive subject, an imperfect one, and there’s more heat than light. Horrible, for sure. There’s only one good solution, and that’s any newco to apply for Division 3. Or my preferred one, no comeback, no newco at all.

Any club not paying tax and operating solely because of this would be barred, suspended from any league in world football.

Agree 100% with your thoughts on this. If there’s any way out of this awful set up Celtic must take the route and be gone with them, although In doing that I would feel sorry for the other decent clubs In Scotland that would be left to take on what Is so blatant It’s scandalous.

i have no problem with people renewing their ticket before outcome is known

because i respect their right to do as they choose, i am only giving my opinion

thats all, but for me there is a line i will not cross and i am sorry buts that just the way i feel about it.

  6. danso_1888

Yep I can understand the argument that the league is ‘tainted’ but fail to grasp how anyone winning the title, Sevco aside, could be deemed as that.

    All about opinions though.

  7. I don’t know the finances of all the clubs in the SPL but I’d assume last season all were in debt, next season I’d guess all will be in debt apart from 1 club.

Now imagine that 1 club decides to splash the cash before the end of the transfer window (I mean debt what does it matter), I wonder how next season will turn out.

  8. danso

I’m not having a go, just highlighting that this is such a mess, and one where Celtic is innocent. All Celtic opinions are valid. Unless anyone says a newco should be back in SPL no problem :-)

  9. A plea to all bhoys and ghirls, please renew your season ticket, why punish or own club who are not to blame for any of this.

By all means boycott away games if newco are not dealt with as they should be.

Do not punish the innocent for the sins of the hun.

Re head to head, Denmark are better than Holland , Portugal better than Denmark & Holland (if they win tonight) better than Portugal.

So, does it therefore revert to goal difference?

I agree with the two of you, but am now thoroughly fed up with the prevarication of the football authorities. They can fast track justice on coaches and players who make mistakes in the heat of the moment, however a club with a pre-medicated, long term abuse of power…… Yes, we cannot rush onto things is the mantra.

Once we see the ownership sorted. the EBT decision, the enquiry into tainted titles, then I want Celtic to go nuclear.

It is not Celtic that would be tainted. Rather it would be the body that allowed the situation where the The competed in the SPL, that would be irredeemably tainted.

I see the emotional blackmail is being trotted out asusual

So what do people think of the Aberdeen support and others who are not renewing their season tickets until they are sure corruption is finished.

are they just mugs punishing their own club, or are they acting with integrity

  18. Hopefully Come Dine with Me (Southend) finishes before the footy, can’t be missing either :O)

  19. Campbell Ogilvie symbolises all that is wrong with the corruption in Scottish football from his time with RFC 1872- 1912, hearts, SFA. Did he introduce EBTs into Hearts ?

He is manipulating Regan (although as a third degree Mason) he now really knows why he was given the gig. Regan is being asked to helps his brothers in distress and Brother Ogilvie in particular.

Brother Regan will turn a blind eye to corruption and try to newco the SFA and SPL as a last roll of the dice.

The time has come to for the SFA to stand down and penalties to be applied including the expulsion of the national team from the 2014 world cup qualifiers ( no chance of reaching brazil with Levein, Houston and Oliver).

His only concern was that his new club have no debt and that a share issue would make them the wealthiest club in the country to start the whole we are the people process again.

I hope that Celtic are talking to other clubs about what they intend to do.

I thought we should say nothing as it could turn it into an “Old firm” issue but maybe we need to lay down our marker.
