SFA keen to change others while retaining their architect of destruction

1003

SFA chief executive, Stewart Regan, clearly sees opportunity among the carnage that is Scottish football at the moment as he leaked plans to ambush clubs into a radical overhaul of the league structures to the media yesterday.

Henry McLeish made several recommendations in his paper on the future of our game, one of which was for a smaller professional setup of two leagues (SPL 1 and SPL 2), sitting on top of a grass-roots pyramid of community based clubs, as well as a 10-team top division.  I agreed with both recommendations but relegation-dodgers in the SPL refused to countenance such a deal.

While it seems a 10-club top division is as far away as ever, the SFA are keen to push through a SPL 2 proposal before the start of the new season, something which borders on ultra-ambitious.

An unattributed SFA source (surely Regan himself) briefed BBC’s Jim Spence on their plans but the language was curious:

“Someone has to take a lead and sort out the internal bickering and point scoring and also to ensure that the Rangers situation never happens again.

“We need to use the mood for change among supporters in the country to tackle the current inertia and do what is right for the game.

“Change has to be democratic, but the time for talking has passed. We need action now to save the game.

“The fans are demanding fundamental change. The Rangers situation has intensified the need for a resolution and, over the next few weeks, we will meet with the SPL and SFL to find a solution.”

In order to “ensure the Rangers situation never happens again”, why don’t the SFA start by ensuring former directors of Rangers, who participated in the controversial EBT scheme which precipitated the crisis, are removed from the SFA board?

The SFA president received loans from Rangers EBT which he did not repay despite the club going bust last week.  There is a belief that those loans were never meant to be repaid and that many of Rangers EBT loans were accompanied by written confirmation that they were never to be repaid, making these ‘loans’ an illegal tax scam.

The SFA chief executive claimed to have investigated and cleared the president of any wrong-doing.  No one else is aware of this investigation.  There is a suspicion that all he did was listen to the president’s version of events, compounding an already dreadful situation for the SFA.

We would love to hear how Mr Ogilvie explained why he didn’t repay his loan.

Two weeks ago we spoke about the SFAs inadequate corporate governance on these matters.  If only corporate governance was the extent of the problem, they appear quite shameless.

“Someone has to take the lead…. tackle the current inertia and do what is right for the game”.

Sack the clown before you start to preach to the rest of the game.

I wouldn’t do any of these – I’d do exactly what people like Paul are doing now, exposing them at every opportunity and ensure UEFA, FIFA and anyone else outside the Scottish MSM get the message. Eventually the SFA, SPL and Zombies FC will see it all collapse around them. Unfortunately it might take a few more months but there seems to be so much more to come out, and a lot of it much more serious than tax dodging.

Unlikely as it seemed a few months ago it also seems that other fans throughout Scotland are as sick of it as we are, so they’ll be even more pressure on the authorities if they get it wrong.

“I’m asking what makes this one worthy of all the special consideration it is receiving.”

The special consideration is mostly myth. The media are predictably trying to fast-track Scotland’s newest football club into the top flight … that’s a club formed three days ago.

But the SPL chairmen will decide, and in my honest opinion I think this new club will have to take their rightful place in the bottom division – providing Spartans don’t challenge them for that place.

  10. StMichaelsBhoy2 on

If Sevco are allowed into the SPL, then in my opinion fans of every other club should refuse to attend any match involving them.

I’d support boycotting Celtic Park for matches against Sevco. I wouldn’t be interested in any claims that this would leave the players with no support, we shouldn’t be playing them in the first place.

That of course would be providing I hadn’t already taken the heart-wrenching decision to turn my back on Scottish football altogether, because if Sevco are allowed into the SPL, we’ll be watching the equivalent of a wrestling match, where the scriptwriters have to dream up ever more exciting ways for Sevco to win, for the entertainment of the only fans left – former fans of the now defunct Rangers FC, eagerly lapping up their Sports Entertainment.

I guess what you’re talking about is they want the new club that will play at wellbroke to be shot from the big cannon and land in one piece the safety net.

That may be their aim, but there are a hell of a lot of folk from all over the football world currently haulin’ big time on that net as the frantically skew the cannon from side to side.

I’m not particularly bothered about redistribution of league titles, cups etc.

And you know what my friend as I type this reply to you, I am completely sick and tired with the mess that currently exists thanks to the behaviour of the cheats aided and abetted by the SFA and SPL.

We have got to get beyond the question as to whether Rangers under some guise or another should somehow continue to play in the SPL. Assuming of course the SPL still exists. The question which needs to asked is whether they should be admitted to any league, at any level. The SPL, as a cartel, will not punish Rangers, it may not admit them, but it will not punish them. The SFA however can take action against the current member of the SPL and the best action it can take is to suspend Rangers FC sine die. That is the minimum it can do. Once this has been achieved the only way any application Newco can even be considered is if it seeks to prove that there are no links, between it and the suspended former club. As in no current, previous or historic links to Rangers FC. None, none and none. When I hear that argument I might start listening, but not before!

  22. Bom dia,

For anybody who followed my tips from yesterday, it just goes to show you really can’t rely on Botafogo. Utter gash in the first half and lucky to go in only one down. They came out the second and stormed it. Mind you Inter RS were woeful.

C’est la flippin vie is what I said to the missus as the cat formed a perfect aerial arc between my left toe and the sideboard.

Anyway, the other seven games today. All, except the Bahia game are affected by the upcoming Libertadores and Copa do Brasil semi, second legs coming midweek. So there’ll be a lot of strange line-ups on the field today (or at least that’s my excuse). So here we go:-

The 20:00 (UK time) ko’s are:-

    São Paulo (8) v Atlético-MG (3)

SP have an eye on a place in the final of the CdB but are still claiming to field a full side (which includes Casemiro, Lucas and Luiz Fabiano). However, Atletico are revitalised by the recent (controversial) addition of Ronaldinho and have looked sharp these past few games. One of the most interesting fixtures of the day.

    DRAW

    Bahia (17) v Sport (11)

A battle of the “no hopers”. Bahia supposed to be fielding three up front today to resolve their goal scoring problems. Sport are just plain mid table mediocore at the moment.

    HOME WIN

    Palmeiras (19) v Vasco (1)

Don’t let their position fool you, Palmeiras can, on their day, turn it on (especially RB Cicinho), their current position is reflected by the “eye on the prize” of winning the CdB (which brings a place in the Libertadores) Vasco on the other hand are consistent and with the retuen of CB, Dede (supposed to be on his way to PSG soon) look strong.

    (a narrow) AWAY WIN

    Flamengo (9) v Santos (16)

Flamengo are all over the place, just now and involved in legal disputes with Ronaldinho. However, they are firmly focussed on League business. Santos, on the other hand, will field a complete reserve side (they face Corinthians on Weds in the Liberadores and are 1-0 down from the first leg). Intrestingly enough Neymar is spouting great things about his understudy, Gustavo Henrique, who has just joined the Santos first team squad. A name for the future, probably.

    HOME WIN

The three 22:30 UK time ko’s are:

    Ponte Preta (15) v Corinthians (20)

Ponte are another mid table medocrity, but haven’t lost at home so far (mind you, they’ve never won so far either). Corinthians will be another reserve side, except they will field regular first choice keeper, Juliio Ceasr just back from injury.

    DRAW

    Coritiba (14) v Atlético-GO (18)

The home team have a CdB semi (they lost the first leg 1-0) at home to Sao Paulo foremost in their minds here, and are resting several players for it. AGO have only scored one goal this season so far. Can’t see them scoring many (if any) today.

    DRAW

    Náutico (12) v Grêmio-RS (4)

Historically, there’s usually a bit of animosity in this match. Nautico have one of the worst defsive records in the league. Gremio also have a CdB semi (they lost the first leg, 2-0 at home to Palmeiras) and can go top today. Therefore, they could be up for this one.

    AWAY WIN

    Good luck!!

  23. PFayr

Aye but unlike ElDiego you’ll no be missed :-))))
