SFL delivers as SPL Ltd facing insolvency

1374

The Scottish Football League today placed an upper limit on which division Sevco can play in next season – their Third.  We must now wait on the company providing sufficient information to complete their application to the SFL and for membership of the Scottish FA.  Although many Rangers fans want Sevco to join the Third Division, chief exec Charles Green was clearly hoping to start life higher up the food chain.

The overwhelming nature of this verdict indicates the solidarity between clubs and fans, throughout the divisions, on how our sport is governed.  This is a good thing but it leaves one burning question on the table:

Is the Scottish Premier League insolvent?

Last week SPL chief exec Neil Doncaster told SFL clubs that the Premier League would be unable to meet its contractual obligations if they did not vote Sevco into the First Division.  Unless this was a shameless lie designed to bully clubs into giving Doncaster what he wanted, the Scottish Premier League Ltd should seek to appoint an administrator without delay.

You can ignore comments about league reconstruction at some unspecified point in the future, Doncaster told us last year that “those who want 16 teams in the top flight are deluding themselves.”

The Scottish Football League does not need the SPL, or its money, to continue to thrive as a community-based sporting entity.  They will flourish.  What happens to the SPL remains to be seen.

As we have observed once or twice before, M. Platini, where are you?  We need the football world to assist with the survival of the game in one of its historic heartlands.

The only way Sevco may get round punishment for EBTs etc is if they abandon the transfer of membership etc from Oldco and apply for membership of the SFA as a genuine Newco with none of the history etc of Oldco.

This however will give them another hurdle to overcome in terms of the requirement for 3 years audited accounts etc. Given the imaginative way the SFA have approached this debacle, it would not surprise me if they found a way round this.

You extrapolate well what we must do as a support: look dispassionately at the performance of Neil Lennon and his coaching team.

    They are failures.

I would go much further though. What the hell is going on that a CEO can continue in his job when we have financially been thee only team in town, and we manage to lose 4 leagues? (believe me it will be at least four)

    Natknow,

Yes, how dare Smith go on SKY and tell millions that Newco fans may well boycott the clubs who votes against them. This man seems to have carte blanche (along with McCoist) to stir up where and when it suits. Can you imagine NL and big Sutton being constantly asked for their opinions if it was us in the huns’ position? And what about the terrorist sympathiser Goram and his ‘head in the sand’ pal Hateley. These guys are never far away from the msm, and usually to dish out more threats. About four years ago Smudger came out with his RC schools revelation and immediately took up office at the SFA. He’s had more jobs than David Beckham and yet stills comes across as an ill-informed bigot. Smith and co really do typify everything their beloved club stood for. Their sheer arrogance and total disrespect for other clubs is mindboggling. And oh how it came back to haunt them in the end.

    btw…Jock Stein still keeps giving.

Indeed – that is the trade-off on both sides of the fence – history & punishment kind of go hand in hand.

However, the SFA could suspend them eight times – all for a year running concurrently if Sevco want to lay claim to the dubious history. It will all amount to just one year out.

However, in the meantime, that history looks like getting further trashed over the next 12 months.

They have been caught cheating their way to titles, and you still don’t get it…..

  8. Lennon n Mc....Mjallby on

The only solution to this whole debacle after they have been stripped of titles is to not allow any team to play out of ibrox, ever.

Don’t allow anything that looks or smells like the huns into any league, force them to take the boolin’ a lot more seriously, ban all their old football kits in public, reduce their midden to rubble and have the council set up a permanent Travellers site where they can use the car park for the horses, furthermore, charge every ex season ticket holder double council tax and make them wear a tag.

These measures I believe, would go some way to satisfying the Scottish public whom through their local clubs have shown what the country really thinks of the Govan blight.

Alex Thomson advises that we read the latest statement from Clyde FC. He describes it as “explosive stuff”. That statement says that everything Clyde heard yesterday strengthened their opinion that Sevco Scotland Ltd will not be playing in the 3rd Division next year. They conclude, “sadly, for our game, this saga is not over”. What does all this mean? Why is it “explosive”?

There is, of course, a meeting of the SPL on Monday which is to fill the vacant berth in the league. It’s strange this hasn’t been done yet. You would have thought they would have done so immediately upon taking their vote against Sevco if only to ensure everyone, especially the new entrant, knew where they stood and especially given the proximity of the new season. It’s also strange this meeting is convened on the next working day after the SFL teams have voted. Was this done to ensure they could rectify the SFL’s mistakes, if the SFL should be so foolish as to go off script. Now it really would be “explosive” and “the saga would not be over” if they were shaping up to allowing a team from Govan playing in blue to take up that vacant berth.

Money, they say, makes the world go around. Well, maybe not the world, but certainly the SFA and SPL!

Agree with every word mate. If it had been Celtic, of course, things would never have gotten to this point – we’d have been ejected faster than they could say FTP. And the same bigots such as Gordon Smith would still be getting invited on to TV and radio (and accepting!) in order to put the boot in as hard as they could while picking up coin from the publicly-funded BBC. Smith would no doubt have blamed it on Kafflik Schools.

Following another night of unbridled celebration let’s look at where we are now and the tension between Regan and Green.

    2 key comments from Regan:

    1. RFC (zombie) will NOT be playing in Div 3.

    2. If members cannot produce a revised league format by November, he will impose one for 13/14.

Most people are interpreting this as an immediate fix of SPL 2 as threatened.

    But

SP 2 is undeliverable, so what is Plan X?

Regan reconvenes tribunal and 12 month suspension ensues.

Reorganisation of leagues is done in 12/13.

In a new structure a transfered share to Green is ‘brought into’ the revised structure at the highest level achievable and one covered by TV.

Problem with this plan for Regan is Mr Green. He DOES NOT WANT this plan.

    Why?

Because he wants ra bers money via season book sales in order to give him working capital. That is why he is desperate to ‘sell’ div 3. In his world he MUST play football. Anywhere will do because ra gullible bers WILL cough up in 12/13. He can make £10-20m income work. He can’t make NO INCOME work.

So………….. watch this space because the cosy erse feeling between Regan and Green just hit a brick wall.

Only one of them can get what he wants and the cards are stacked in Regan’s favour………. so far.

The gift has more ta gie us…………… much more.

Will ra bers start buying the season books at £600 a pop for div 3? We’re about to find out.

Where is bomber by the way???????????

Be interesting to see what happens next week. As many more informed commentators have pointed out, the fat lady hasn’t even finished warming up her tonsils yet. There’s still a lot more to come…

  25. Green’s comments following yesterday’s vote:

“Rangers has been handed the ultimate punishment of starting again from the bottom of the leagues but there is an overwhelming feeling among fans and within the club of wiping the slate clean as a club free of sanctions.

“The people who brought shame on this great club are no longer part of it and everyone at Rangers is focused on rebuilding on top of a solid financial foundation.’

Rangers are dead. That’s why they are no longer in the SPL. That’s the whole reason there was this meeting in the first place. The sevco huns will be a new club so far as the UEFA coefficient is concerned.

There has been no punishment (yet). On the contrary Sevco, a new entity with no track record, no accounts, and the very real prospect of facing legal action which would set aside their purchase of the assets of Rangers from the club’s administrators, have been given preferential treatment in being allowed to join the SFL in spite of the fact that they do not meet the entry criteria.

It’s not an auspicious start for the new club that it is already mired in dishonesty and falsehood.
