SFL, Hearts and the cash cow

790

With former Rangers International director, Charles Green, no longer on the scene, Scottish Football League chief executive, David Longmuir, has had a sudden change of heart. After encouraging member clubs to reject the SPL proposal to merge leagues, yesterday he congratulated clubs who voted for the merger as “reluctant heroes”.

SFL president, Jim Ballantyne, was less pragmatic, “We are joining their [SPL] company, their organisation.  They have swallowed us up. We could use nice words about it, but it is a takeover.”

On this occasion, we concur with Mr Ballantyne, who went on to say, “It will be for others to decide if this step takes us to where we want to go.”

The truth is that while this arrangement will do lots for clubs in the second tier of the game it will fundamentally change nothing, our challenges remain.

News this morning of impending financial doom at Hearts as a result of their lender and major shareholder going into liquidation presents another challenge.  Hearts over-reached what looked like a bizarre attempt to spend money like there was no tomorrow.  Memories of Zadoc the Priest blasting over the PA system at Tynecastle heralding their access to the Champions League qualifiers in 2006 will seem hollow now.

Scottish football has one perfectly solvent cash cow and nearly 40 businesses teetering on the brink.  Send the cash cow off to graze in pastures where it can be fattened in return for writing a cheque big enough to solve the game’s problems.

Willie Wallace will be at the Celtic Store, Argyle St, for late night shopping, from 5.30-7.30 pm tonight (Thursday).  Where you can buy a signed copy of his book and have a chat with the man himself.  Bring a camera.

Immediately after leaving the Celtic Store Willie and Brogan Rogan (and a pile of books) are heading to the Greenock Celtic Supporters’ Club for a CQN Question and Answer evening.  Entry costs £2 (all of which is going to our charity causes).  DON’T FORGET YOUR CAMERA!!

Raffle tickets for this fabulous signed Celtic strip cost only £1, you’ve two days left to get a ticket, so fill your boots here.

Tomorrow, while some of us are relaxing in Fife, over a hundred Celtic fans will drive north ahead of a 1254125 Ben Nevis climb and Huddle. Two of our own are then cycling from Fort William back to Glasgow on Sunday…. They need sponsors for their 1254125 campaign. Even if you can’t make it up Ben Nevis you can help out here.

And, if your stuck in Lanarkshire tomorrow there’s a trivia quiz in aid of the Walk Centre, Nakuru, Kenyan, who help children and families of the slum. Quiz takes place at St John The Baptist Church Hall, Uddingston, 7.30 – 11.30.

I note some of the proposed league changes, seem VERY convenient now that Sevco 5088 have their dodgy licence etc..

History is being airbrushed conveniently. In 30 yrs time reflection will all be about how Scottish football changed rather than the discrimination, financial doping, administrative skullduggery that caused the issues.

Lets be honest , most problems and most attempts for solutions are to suit the shady, brassnecked shambles from Govan..

They can spin it ANY way they want..make no mistake, this is ALL about Sevco..

We let them have any power back at our peril.. They are seething.. Desperate..

I do not miss them.. I never will.. Moreover I would have done far more to ensure their slimy, not so subtle attempts to return, were rendered useless..

The silence over the obvious shady oldco/Sevco/smsm alliances is deafening..

There are no degrees of winning.. You win or lose.. CELTIC have won.. The Govan hillbillies exist only in delusional minds..

However Scottish Society appears to need the hillbillies…

As a club we should have the confidence to point out our victories on and off the field and leave them to rot..

I enjoyed this season ,without them…I felt cleaner as a human being..

    couldnt agree more

i really enjoyed this season without those poisoned sectarian bigots

  2. Paul, I presume you are saying that the SFA/SPFA in return for allowing Celtic to move down to England into whatever league , Celtic would have to transfer £xm into Scottish gootball every year for say 5 years from the extra revenue the club would make.

Everyting revolves round money . That would solve the Scottish part of the problem, just got to persuade the English leagues that it would be in their interests financially to go with it.

    Might work.

  3. Paul – keep on stickin’ it up thum………

They don’t like it up ’em, and it shows……..

KK -The continued persecution of our manager comes from the top table IMO.Neil said after the Fannygate affair that it didn’t come from Lunny’s office. The EBT.The denial to Chick Hun that he actually had one.The alleged burying of evidence from Oldco. The clandestine meetings with Whyte (and Green probably).Historical evidence of heading up a Secterian Boardroom.I’m sure i’ve missed a few other things…..HH

    Good Afternoon Bhoys & Ghirls,

Have only just managed to log on so not sure what’s been said/written about the mini-Huns from Embra today. I have a wee tit-bit for those interested though. . . . .

I recieved a text this morning from my mate who works for HMRC in EK who said that the guy who signed the papers to liquidate the big-Huns was in that Office today.

I’ll not mention the guys name but let’s just say he doesn’t ‘sound’ like a Sevconian!!

Anyhoo, he told my mate that if the mini-Huns didn’t sort out their mess by lunchtime today then he’d be signing liquidation papers for them too.

How I wish I had that guys job!!!

Has anyone heard anything on this, from the MSM or otherwise?

  6. quantum –

I knew there was an error there, but assumed you were referring to goatball . . . .

Thanks for that. Hibs mates at work now in a frenzy!

Great day to work in an Edinburgh office full of jambo’s!

  9. Hibs entered a team in the East of Scotland league at the start of the week. I reckon that is due to Hearts possibly entering that league. They will not get the same treatement as The Rangers. Smart move by Hibs. Keeps the derby match in some shape or form.

It’s a given. There has already talk of Hearts moving to either Meadowbank or even a ground share with Hibernian. Talk of deals already done there.

This has been mooted for a few months by a mate of mine who is in the know council wise in Edinburgh.

The question is though to Hearts have the ability to raise a new club in the time frame? Will they get into the 3rd division or have the rules been changed again?

Who takes there place in the SPL? I don’t think a certain Division 2 club have sold their season tickets yet.

I expect Sevco for the SPL campaign (for the good of the game) to go into overdrive in the next few days.

This financial guy may be smarter than people are giving him credit for. If he buys the shares today or tomorrow sand they get back in the SPL before the summer is out he will make a fast buck.

It’s all pointing to Rangers back in the SPL before the summer is out for me.

    Very sad!

His track record is shameful, it really is.

Who needs a CV when you have a funny handshake though, eh?

  18. Good afternoon from what was a sunny Nordrhein Westfalen, it’s just about to turn nasty – storm on the way methinks. Anyhoo been off on the Pat&Mick for a wee while now and went into work to collect my mail. Lo and behold my copy of Heart of a Lion signed both by Willie and BRTH. Made up now, as Willie’s was the only signature I didn’t have. I got all the rest in Vegas in 1997. Back in tomorrow to have my left hand re-operated on, hopefully successfully this time.

Is it too much to hope that the new Sevco benefactor will purchase the manky mob then demolish Ibrokes and fold them for good?! I certainly would if I had the readies. Never mind there will be a wailing and gnashing of teeth on their fan sites when they find out his background. It’s alright for spivs and conmen to buy shares but no honest, altruistic Fenians!

    The weather has just broken.

    Hail! Hail! PMTYH

You’re correct when you say Scotland no longer produces World class footballers like McGrain, Johnstone, Dalglish, Bremner, Law, Souness etc. There seems to be a general malaise affecting Scottish sport right across the board with the exception of young Andy Murray, the tennis player and I wonder if any of CQNrs has a theory to explain this phenomenon? The Glasgow rugby team, quite successful this season, played over here in the semi-final of the Rab league and could only muster a paltry few fans to support the team.

Kikinthenakas- probably coming up mid afternoon

Where are you goin for a’ pre Bruce brew?

  22. Guys, heading off for the family holiday in a couple of weeks and will be visiting Vegas and LA. With kids of 18 and 15, casinos will not be on the list but wondering if anyone can recommend any specific Irish bars in these locations, close to the centres?

  23. Starry Plough @ 12.37

You could also say that neither is England producing any world class soccer players and are light years behind the skills of the top foreigners.

Enjoying the holliers in Puerto Pollensa and on a slightly different matter, I spotted a picture while browsing an English newspaper of Wayne Rooney with his young son sporting a Celtic jersey.
