Shocking result but expected performance

1103

I’m not going to say I saw this coming, I didn’t see defeat, but when I wrote a couple of days ago that you and I have seen a lot more games like Celtic’s away to Lincoln Red Imps than Brendan Rodgers, and about European football in July, I knew this one was never going to play out in a triumphant manner.

On the first day he was appointed I asked one of you to compile Brendan an Efe highlights video – I assume we were all busy. God love Efe, he’s a fine man by all accounts, but he’s three years into a slump which is not going to end at Celtic. Brendan must now be aware. It’s no longer Efe’s fault if he costs us again.

I also made the point previewing this game that we can’t expect a squad comprising only one addition to last season’s group to perform remarkably different in qualification than a year ago. In this sense, Celtic performed as expected, this one had all the hallmarks of our recent Icelandic ventures.

The manager may not be embarrassed at the result (I suspect he might sound different privately) but many supporters are. Gibraltar has a population similar to Bellshill, but without the football heritage and support mechanism. Would defeat to Bellshill Athletic be embarrassing? You bet. Yesterday’s result was too.

We are woefully slow in build-up and have only one player in the squad who can create the 7 or 8 chances per game needed to get a result, and he’s 33 next month and currently injured.

We remain strong favourites to qualify for the next round but there is an enormous amount of work to be done in the next month. This is not a Champions League squad.

Thank you You are correct and other avenues are being explored.

Think of Res12 and the TJN report as leverage that just needs a bit of strengthening in order to lever change.

Maestro-TGM-I actually think there will be big changes very soon, some won’t be back BR has a big ego,and won’t like his name being trashed by the rags,as I said the other day,John Kennedy should be under heavy scrutiny from Brendan, the only member left from previous regime, and would have given him reports on current squad. Bottom line is we have too big a squad, very little quality,no leaders, and a losing mentality in games out with SPL

I agree…I dont think Brendan is a man you want to mess about.

He will hate the stick he’s got….and doesnt deserve it….stepped knee deep into Ronny and Peter’s mess

Pep and Jose would struggle to do anything with those imposters.

Most of our squad of so-called professionals….need to re-train to be postmen, electricians etc:)

    Because they cant cut it.

When your time is up, its up.

  4. I said the other day that the only positive that can be taken out of the defeat is BR has to sort it, if he fails he is finished, a reasonable incentive me thinks.

  5. When things go wrong this place would give you a pain in the arse.

We lost in Gibraltar to a team of part timers, it was a shock, it was extremely disappointing to every Celtic Supporter on here. However we still have a chance of redemption next Wed.

We have a new Manager installed. His appointment was almost universally welcomed here, we need to stay calm and let him do his job.

It is time to put our anger to one side for a few days and get behind the team. We need to scare the pants off the Imps next Wed. & roar the Celts on to victory.

When the dust has settled on the tie will be the time for inquests. If we do get knocked out by the Imps it will be absolutely sickening and to be honest I don’t know how I would react. On the other side if we win convincingly last Tuesday will quickly fade from the memory.

Finally how did the bookies do regarding Tuesday’s result?

40/1 on an imps win, I heard on BT sport after the match.

If I’d heard that before the match I would have thought it was pretty miserable odds!

So on Saturday should we play the team that started last Tuesday, giving them 1 last chance?

Or should we be more adventurous?

Bearing in mind Wolfsburg are a very good team and we don’t want to harm our confidence anymore.

Now just to prove I am super confident that we will win with ease next Wednesday – I did chuckle at a note I got from a Sheffield United supporting friend of mine

Celtic to be awarded the tie in Gibraltar as Imps midfield player – a plumber – was NOT Corgi registered

Smile and relax the only people making a meal of this are the Hun media

Tontine Tim, I hope that you are well.

Krankjar moved from Dinamo Zagreb to Hajduk Split in 2005. The move was hugely controversial. He lasted approximately 12 months at Split before moving to Portsmouth, Spurs, Kiev, QRR and NY Cosmos.

*Cheers I have a Croatian side to my family and krunchies move to Split was akin tae joe monson tae the zombies.

For a country which is rated one of the most Catholic in the western world they now have 3 natives that have signed for them.

Poorshow angered the Split fans who called him a traitor but the fact he was half serb was used as an excuse, as for jellypiece, his cousin is one of my daughters neighbours and he said it was the easiest money he ever earned, so it’s all about the money, or so it seems.

  13. No problem

  14. A wee result from the Europa qualifiers earlier:-

AIK Stockholm 1 FC College Europa 0

Why is that of any interest to us?

Well, Europa are the other Gibralter representative team in Europe- the 2nd best team in Gib.

BTW Dinamo Minsk held at home by an ROI team

Slavia Prague lose 3:1 in Estonia

Admira Wacker enjoy a narrow 1:0 win against a team from Azerbijan

Vojvodina sneak a 1:0 home win against a Welsh League team

S;ovan Bratislava held at home by unknown Latvians

Austria Vienna 1:0 up at home t Albanians Kukesi

The gap is closing for bottom and middle clubs but the Elite just motor away from us all.

  15. So, every day, when I see the breaking of the day, I thank God – and then the next thing I think about is football. I really love playing this game. It has given me my daily bread, so how could I not love it?

‘For me, Celtic is a place I really love – and I want to be part of it. There is no place like home. And Celtic is home for me. I’m ready to do everything to remain here and continue playing here.

‘You can see the philosophy of the team, the history behind the club, the objective of this group. That is what means so much to me.

‘It’s one thing that every player dreams of, to play for a club like Celtic. It was a dream for me. Since I arrived at Celtic, I knew I’d never been anywhere like this before. Every day, I saw that.

‘I knew I had to work very hard to earn the honour of playing for this club, to wear the green and white of Celtic. I want to help the club, to improve every day so I can make a contribution.

Guid enough for me EFE……….Keep fighting.

I just know in my heart and head that the weans won’t let us down, they will fight for everything, our ” senior ” players don’t give a feck, they have proved it over the past couple of seasons, they have spat the dummy out on quite a few occasions, unacceptable imo, hunt them, and I pray Brendan is just the man to do it :-)

  21. When an entirely unexpected result occurs in football, the general and fair reaction is that these things happen in football and they add to the fascination many have with the game. That is the general and fair reaction but when Celtic are the team involved and the reportage comes from the Scottish media, then we can forget all about a reasoned and fair response. It becomes a ` Let`s all laugh at Celtic` Fest .In those circumstances, I feel beholden to defend my team and the kind of information provided by SFTB at 9:22 makes my task much easier so, thank you SFTB.
