During the game on Saturday we had a conversation (it was that kind of game) about defenders in general, and left backs in particular, available for selection in the CQteN Dream Team (have played since July 2004). Consensus was that Izaguirre, van Dijk, Ambrose, Matthews and Lustig should feature high on the list.
The real concern was the lack of genuine competition for Emilio Izaguirre’s place over the decade. We have two excellent right backs, with Darnell Fisher showing lots of promise, but have had little genuine talent on the left. Mulgrew and McNamara (both used there occasionally), Naylor, Danny Fox, Braafheid, Mo Camara and Ulrik Laursen were at best fillers for the position.
Neil Lennon has talked for over a year about adding a new left back to the squad but I don’t think we’ve come close to signing someone for this position. The problem is not limited to Celtic, either, lots of clubs at the highest level (budget) have struggled.
I read during the week that Izzie has achieved more assists this season than any since he arrived four years ago. His form is good, so there is not a compelling need to recruit, but form and fitness are fickle. He is also one of the few from the squad who will spend the summer in Brazil, interrupting preseason preparations.
Izzie arrived after World Cup 2010, where he put in enough of a shift in two appearances to convince Celtic to move, without shaking the game to its core to the extent he was snapped up by an English or German club. If the groundwork has been done ahead of this summers’ tournament, I’d be happy to recruit another solid performing left back from a small Latin American country. I’d not be averse to shopping there for a striker either, instead of Europe, England’s lower tiers, or the Israeli league.
Seville – The Celtic Movement:
“As I recall, I was sitting at the table when I got a shout from some friends to come to the bar where they had engaged in conversation with the owner of the restaurant – Luis – who was originally from Lisbon. At the bar, Luis introduced himself and quickly handed me an official postcard complete with a place for a stamp and a message although this particular card was blank and had never been sent.
The Picture on the card was the Estadio Nacional on the afternoon of 25th May 1967 at the precise moment when Stevie Chalmers turned the ball into the Inter Milan net for the winner. Luis had been in Lisbon that day and he had kept this postcard as a memento of the day and had held it for 15 years as his own wee homage not so much to Celtic as the Celtic fans.”

I know little or nothing of what took place at Hillsborough.
However, I do know that in the aftermath of an earlier stadium disaster, the country’s media studiously ignored that in the run up to game, the host club had made it plain that its main interest was in preventing the visiting side from winning the country’s league championship.
So much so, that in an action almost without precedent, whipping up the home fans, over the stadium pa system, during play, the progress of another game directly affecting the outcome of the championship was announced.
Needless to say the three not so wise monkeys of the media seen and heard nuttin’, and said even less.
Kinglubo…
In this case there has already been too much poorly informed, opinionated, speculative comment from the press, the police, the FA, politicians and generally people who were not there.
If, IF, people turned up without tickets it would hardly have been an unusual situation at many football matches, particularly high profile ones but those other matches never had such horrible outcomes.
The main thing is for the chatter to stop and let this long, long overdue enquiry hear the evidence and reach its conclusion.
End of,

I’m champion , I also thought that Jackson Irvine showed up well for killie too,
Could it be NL will have a job on his hands selecting his final pool of players
For me if he adds proven pros to what we have , it could really be a good season ,
Right now I would settle for qualification in the CL , the league and a the Scottish cup
Why not go down the route arsenal take and play the boys in the league cup , whatever we
We end up with , I’ll still support the hoops !! :-)
Weefra…,
Sometimes you talk a lot of shite :o)
Weefra,
Nice meeting you on Saturday.
Just to say I don’t need the favour re the kids visiting the lambs, I can’t get transport.

Same here.
Hillsbourgh happened after years of serious hooliganism in England. Regular pitch invasions and full-scale fighting had probably hardened police attitudes towards the football fan. This may have contributed to the way the police acted .
TheOriginalSadiesBhoy-Accurate description of Nottingham mate,it was terrifying. When we got through the turnstile ,it was like bodies getting fired through a bagatelle machine.A policeman came through after me,he hit the ground ,was turning blue and holding his chest.I loosened his tie and was preparing to give him CPR ,until one of his colleagues grabbed me ,as he thought i was attacking his mate. After i explained what the situation was,we loosened his tunic and discovered an inhaler,he was asthmatic.Luckily he came to a few minutes later, added to the crushing in the pen directly behind the goals, Nottingham could easily have been our Hillsborough.

When’s the under 15 game
Hillsborough
You see perhaps I look at Hillsborough in a different way to some.
I don’t believe that the fans had no tickets and simply caused a crush, however whether they had tickets or not is irrelevant… completely irrelevant.
Any football match is a controlled licensed event.
That means that there are safety rules, guidelines, procedures, drills and practices which should be followed to ensure that safety is maintained.
A fan without a ticket should not be able to gain access to such an event.
A fan should not be able to gain access to such an event without showing a ticket, or giving part of a ticket, to an authorised steward or whoever — and unless the steward is satisfied that the ticket proffered is for the correct part of the ground or the correct turnstyle then the fan should not be admitted.
Those who run and organise football matches have a duty to each and every occupant of the ground and each and every ticket holder to ensure that sufficient health and safety measures are in place.
Similarly, those in charge of security and health and safety ( may be the police or may be others ) have a duty to perform their tasks diligently, honestly and professionally — and if there is overcrowding, or a disturbance of any kind, they are obliged to react to that disturbance timeously, professionally and at all times with a duty of care.
What has been established at Hillsborough is that none of those duties were complied with.
The safety system clearly failed and those who were meant to implement a reasonable health and safety system failed to do so.
Those who were meant to implement and perform health and safety procedures in the event of a serious incident occurring clearly failed to do so.
A serious problem was not acted upon timeously with the result that death and injury ensued. Further, for whatever reason, duty police officers have been shown to collude and lie about the events of that day — covering up what actually happened and deflecting from what should and indeed could have happened if a proper safety system had been in place and had been implemented.
Why the Police lied is open to conjecture and speculation — but they will not have been the only ones who will have wanted to colour the events.
Why certain lines and information was released to the press is open to question.
What is clearly evident is that there was a complete failure in crowd control and a desire by the authorities to cover that up.
It matters not if that crowd — or individual members of the crowd — had tickets or not, were drunk or not, or were from the planet zog.
A football match is a legally licensed event and the licence is granted on certain conditions with the presumption that there will be a crowd who will behave like a crowd — and the licence holder, the police and all other authorities involved are put on notice of that at the very outset.
They are then expected to look after that crowd, monitor it, and use all reasonable steps to ensure that order and safety is maintained.
The crowd are not expected to police themselves or to provide any health and safety functions themselves.
Other professional parties are licensed and authorised to carry out those functions.

An astounding and disgusting conment that has no place on this board, IMO only, of course.
How anyone can think like this, let alone write it, truly astonishes me.

King Lubo, You are not a bad lhad and you are much better than your extremely offensive post on the Hillsborough disaster. I would honestly be ashamed if any outsiders were having a first time lurk and read that kind of nonsense on our blog. Please do yourself a favour put your hand up, admit it was an ill thought out post and ask for it to be deleted. You will be immediately forgiven and the matter quickly forgotten. I know I have made a few ill judged posts in my time as have most others. There is no shame in that but it takes a good man to admit he is wrong. Hail Hail stillfriendscsc.

Kinglubo. You took me surprise with this one. Not in keeping with your usual posts.
The only thing I agreed with was your conclusion that you’d need to reach for a tin hat…..

A brave post ,but one which is completely without merit.
Health and safety regulations were breached on every front by the responsible authorities.

“I would honestly be ashamed if any outsiders were having a first time lurk and read that kind of nonsense on our blog.”
Corkcelt, I agree with the sentiment in your post but I completely disagree with this part.
I’m quite proud of the majority of the responses and they clearly show any lurking non-hoops what most of us think.
