Sinclair really wanted Celtic, overinvestment… now January

620

Scoring minutes after making your debut doesn’t guarantee a great career at a club, but Scott Sinclair gave himself an excellent start with his winning goal at Tynecastle. Leigh Griffiths lead-up work was magnificent. The Hearts defence had no answer.

Scott’s transfer took weeks (and a lot of money) to complete but it was the player’s tenacity to come to Celtic which decided the matter.  I hear Celtic met Aston Villa’s initial target price early in the negotiations, but Villa decided to hold their cards for a few weeks in an attempt to induce other bidders.  Scott was clear from the off that there was only one place he was going, but while Villa sat tight, there was a worry that another club would come in with a seriously large wage offer.  The deal happened when the player continued with the mantra, “I’m going to Celtic or nowhere”.  This is a guy who really wants to play for Celtic.

Apart from Tony Watt’s excellent chance yesterday, which should have brought Hearts level, the home side didn’t have a chance worthy of the name. A policy of throwing yourself to the ground inside the box doesn’t count, so we can be happy with how our defence is performing with Kolo Toure in the team.  There’s still a long way to go, but the direction of travel is clear.  Watt and Conon Sammon will cause a lot of damage in the Premiership this season, but on the evidence so far, Celtic should outperform their 15 point winning margin last term.

So disappointed to hear Dave King’s £30m – £50m overinvestment isn’t going to happen until January. This guy has been so transparent. Honestly, they get what they deserve, there’s no helping or telling them.  They backed a hostile takeover with a fantasy manifesto, while putting the thumbscrews on their club, to the extent it had to go cap in hand to its only source of funding, and hawk their commercial rights in the process.

As we’ve said here for years, the only people who can really damage a football club are its own supporters, in this case, with their inability to consider the consequences of the next action.

Running a football club is hard (serious understatement alert).  You’re going to enjoy how Dave King finds this out.

I have already submitted a response and am fortunate enough to have some practice in such matters but just thought that it could appear a daunting task to someone completing this officialese for the first time.

I agree that it must not be 100 or so word-for-word copies like pupils behind the gym copying each other’s homework but, perhaps, a compendium of main points for each heading – leaving respondents to personalise their answers. However, I leave that to your good self and to the other valiant opponents of this detestable Act.

Good to seeing you posting, sir.

    Good Morning.

I learned yesterday of the death of a friend of mine whom I had not spoken to in years.

We had not fallen out but our lives drifted in different directions despite the fact that for a period of time we spent many a night and day together.

Only yesterday I had thought about getting in touch with him, pulling his leg, find out how he was doing, yanking his chain and giving him a hug.

Now, I will never get that chance and I am a lesser man for that.

I can recall as clear as yesterday various occasions when he made me laugh like hell and others where he drove me mad. I spoke and sang at his wedding and shared many a mad work and social experience with him.

He was often as not as wound tight as a spring and needed a dose of the ridiculous to make him see sense.

He was a pure born eejit — but for a period of time he was one of my eejits.

God bless you Frank wherever you are – I was, and always will be, your friend.

For the rest of us – never let time or life steal a friendship or an acquaintance. The job and the day to day is important — but never as important as the eejits you meet along the way.

    Take Care

Having watched it again, I see MacGregor should have had a penalty before the ball broke to Jamesie to score.

Referee apologises for Hearts’ wrongly awarded penalty.

However, Armstrong interfering with play in an offside position for our first.

Pretty poor refereeing from celtic’s point of view. Two bad ones to one good.

    Brogan – sorry mate

Good to see you back HT

McGregor takes the ball left and the Hearts player brings him down. It’s a penalty but the ref plays on and Celtic score.

    It’s called playing advantage.

    Cheers mate.

No of course not – justified and constructive criticism always adds to the debate – however the bandwagon that earlier denigrated Bronnie and Jamsie, has now moved on to Craig.

I really don’t know what he has done to deserve it.

There are of course those who would want all our players to come from ROI, or, be Catholic from NI – dreamers!!!!

I seen a post some five or six weeks ago on here that described Paddy Roberts, as a ‘one trick pony’ – a week or two later it was being ‘parroted’ on the media – why give them the ammunition – they don’t need it!!!

Terribly sad to hear of the news of Bishop Daly. I often disagreed with his views but no one can doubt his integrity and his awareness of the war in Ireland.

    Let me refresh your memory:

    In Astana: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nd3vvLr5aso

Nowhere near the ball; he should have taken everything in front of him as he collected the ball.

    In Glasgow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8waDXDZ_2qc

Could’ve let Tierney usher the boy wide and stayed in his goal; then when he headers it, he stops, hesitates, then runs towards his goal with his back to play. (Not to mention the flap at the disallowed goal.)

Tony Watt chance for Hearts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxV0qt1IFR8

45s in – look at his positioning; he’s all over the place.

    Hope that helps.

Not been on for a while but just read on another site that the res 12 guys are having their identities exposed online in an attempt to intimidate them. Dead right.

Goalie should be positioned at the back post for a corner.

Why ? Because speed of running forward is greater than speed of running backward.

Similarly in the case you cite……the cross and the Watt miss.

  27. Apologies for being behind the times but would somebody please explain where the Lee Wallace and grass jokes originate from?

  28. I remember the days when, if a Celtic player had a dip in form or made a couple of mistakes, the supporters would get behind (support) him and give him every encouragement. Nowadays a couple of off-days results in the miscreant being hounded incessantly.

First it was Scott Brown, with some posters even wanting him sold, now it’s Craig Gordon who is the fall guy. What short memories some people have.

GPWM. I wonder what has changed in our relationship with the players/club to cause that? I’m gonna suggest that our perceptions have changed over the years. That, whereas once we identified with being supporters primarily and customers secondary, nowadays we feel primarily treated as customers with our support being contingent on the club showing the same ambitions we have as supporters.

Not me though! I’ve always identified as a chippy Coatbridge tim with an immovable faith in my team and it’s players. My spend at Celtic is a donation – with benefits.
