Scoring minutes after making your debut doesn’t guarantee a great career at a club, but Scott Sinclair gave himself an excellent start with his winning goal at Tynecastle. Leigh Griffiths lead-up work was magnificent. The Hearts defence had no answer.
Scott’s transfer took weeks (and a lot of money) to complete but it was the player’s tenacity to come to Celtic which decided the matter. I hear Celtic met Aston Villa’s initial target price early in the negotiations, but Villa decided to hold their cards for a few weeks in an attempt to induce other bidders. Scott was clear from the off that there was only one place he was going, but while Villa sat tight, there was a worry that another club would come in with a seriously large wage offer. The deal happened when the player continued with the mantra, “I’m going to Celtic or nowhere”. This is a guy who really wants to play for Celtic.
Apart from Tony Watt’s excellent chance yesterday, which should have brought Hearts level, the home side didn’t have a chance worthy of the name. A policy of throwing yourself to the ground inside the box doesn’t count, so we can be happy with how our defence is performing with Kolo Toure in the team. There’s still a long way to go, but the direction of travel is clear. Watt and Conon Sammon will cause a lot of damage in the Premiership this season, but on the evidence so far, Celtic should outperform their 15 point winning margin last term.
So disappointed to hear Dave King’s £30m – £50m overinvestment isn’t going to happen until January. This guy has been so transparent. Honestly, they get what they deserve, there’s no helping or telling them. They backed a hostile takeover with a fantasy manifesto, while putting the thumbscrews on their club, to the extent it had to go cap in hand to its only source of funding, and hawk their commercial rights in the process.
As we’ve said here for years, the only people who can really damage a football club are its own supporters, in this case, with their inability to consider the consequences of the next action.
Running a football club is hard (serious understatement alert). You’re going to enjoy how Dave King finds this out.

Not really looking forward to the fans of Scotland’s newest club coming to Celtic Park on 10th September but I will be in my seat supporting my team as I am at every home game.
One additional worry I have is that 10th September is the anniversary of Jock Stein so I hope and trust that every Celtic fan in the stadium that day ensures that our numerical advantage drowns out any vile singing that comes from their corner.

Tynecastle , as far back as my first visit there forty years ago, has always been a horrible place for us to go to. Terrible access and worse trying to get out of it, only Brockville was worse.
I read an article years ago with Henrik where he said the atmosphere was poisonous when we played there.
Some of us were among the home support in the main stand there when we lost 3 1 in the early nineties. They were a vile , nasty , intolerant and horrible lot.
A favourite Celtic performance for me was when Choccy scored a hat trick in a 5 1 victory at Tynecastle. Our dear departed Tommy scored a wonderful goal plus he who’s name can’t be mentioned got our first that day.
BT showing the Stuttgart v Sankt Pauli game from the second tier of German football. Not the best game but great atmosphere and some racket made by the fans of both teams.
Lee Wallace told me his favourite book was ‘The Rat’ by Gunter Grass…”Very appropriate.” said I.
“Uh?” he responded…
Some great fun was had in work today with the blue noses, most are now really starting to see what everyone of us already knew. Their defenders can’t defend and the rest of their team is average.
The fun is just starting and it’s going to get better as the results get worse.
Yesterday’s game was a typical Scottish affair with some real nasty challenges from Hearts players, thought the ref handled that aspect of the game well but just what is it with refs giving decisions when they “think” a player was impeded. Overall a good result but given our resources the result should never have been in doubt.
Delighted for Sinclair, that goal will help him settle in and boost his confidence.
All in all a great start to the new season on all fronts.
I welcome the move, if indeed there is such a move, for Vorm – we need competition in all departments.
What I was alluding to was the game by game, sometimes move by move from the opposition, where CG is now under the microscope.
The Astana headed clearance has whipped a frenzy against the keeper. He made the correct decision – we were down by a great piece of skill and quick thinking.
Every player makes a mistake in every game – however from where I sit, CG has been top quality for us – without doubt a great signing at the right time, following Fraser’s departure.
Is it a coincidence that his great form wad when we had the likes of VVD and Jason in front of him?
I say, get off his back – when the defence settles down, hopefully do will CG’s detractors.
is lee Wallace really a grass? A grass is someone who informs the authorities of a crime or crimes that took place.
Wallace just made stuff up.
Just saying.
Is the m’well game on telly?

Useful reminder of the need for as many responses to the consultation document to repeal the odious Offensive Behaviour at Football Act.
However, and I repeat previous requests for regular posting of hyperlink and a list of recommended points to be submitted under each head to maximise the effectiveness of responses
Whereas hundreds of identical responses may weaken the credibility of the consultation exercise, it should be made as easy as possible for people who may not have much experience of completing such an exercise.
Hopefully, someone can keep reposting necessary links and potential points to include in responses. HH

“I can hear the grass grow…..”
“The old home town looked the same as Lee Wallace stepped down from the train”
Is Lee Wallace a Whispering Grass or does he shout out?
Why is there one small player in the volleyball?
Mats said:
” The CQN gestapo now have Craig Gordon firmly in their sights.”
The problem with that sentence is that it APPEARS to tag EVERY supporter who makes any criticism of Craig with the same `gestapo` label. I am sure that was not your intention.

One of my best memories at Tynecastle:
Wed 30 Aug 1989 Hearts 2 Celtic 2 League Cup QFinal;
Scott Crabbe 20; John Robertson 120
Dariusz Dziekanowski 64; Andy Walker 100
After extra-time (1-1 after 90 mins) – Celtic won 3-1 on pens.
Davie McPherson took the first penalty, Roy Aitken equalised – Alan McLaren and John Colquhoun saw their kicks saved by Bonner and Robertson’s pen rebounded off a post while Peter Grant and Tommy Coyne thumped theirs into the net.
H!H!
Why do you whisper, ya grass
Why tell ref’rees what ain’t so
Whispering grass, the refs don’t have to know, no, no
Why tell them all those secrets
Who kicked you long ago
Whispering grass, the refs don’t need to know
Don’t you tell it to ref’rees
Or they will tell the journalese
And everyone will know
Because you told the blabbering refs
Yes, you told them once before
It’s no secret anymore
Why tell them those untrue things
When the camera’s in the know
Whispering grass, don’t tell ref’rees
’cause ref’rees don’t need to know
Viewfaethe – cool. Cheers.
Weebobby – my apologies!!! I just couldn’t think of any grass based puns, jokes or other humorous ideas. I just wanted to tout for responses…

Lee Wallace is a firm believer in lawn order.

In proper volleyball, they play a Libero who only appears in the 3 back court positions and never has to appear at the net. So he has to be better equipped to receive the serve and to scramble in back court cover, all facets better achieved by a more mobile player. Only those that appear at the net for hitting and blocking need to be taller. Though Liberos are usually smaller and wear a different colour, they are usually around 6 foot tall or more.
In the beach game there is usually one huge player who specialises in hitting and blocking and one slightly smaller player who does more back court work and setting. You will usually see the servers actually serve on the smaller player most often because, even though he is the better serve receiver it means that he is then likely to have to take the 3rd touch attacking shot and they prefer the smaller player to take this rather than the bigger beasts.

I accept your apology grassfully…

Dundee are STILL 4/1 for Saturday. Apart from anything else, the New Rangers have a mid-week game and Dundee don`t. Do the Bookies know something we don`t?
