Six Celtic fans

1375

As six Celtic fans face the prospect of months in a Dutch jail if police evidence is preferred, take a look at this CCTV video from the Euro Pub in Dam Square:

This is no more than the strong bullying the vulnerable.  It is shocking and affected more than just Celtic fans, other innocent bystanders were picked on.

What can you do about it?  We’re looking for around 40 more bucketeers to collect before the Aberdeen game on Saturday for the legal defence of the six Celtic fans.  You’ll need to get to the stadium a bit early, bucket shaking will be required.  That’s all.

If you can help, email dambhoys8@yahoo.co.uk for more information. You’ll enjoy it.

Thank you.

Remember the Q&A in the Columba Club, Blantyre, tomorrow. I’ll be there with Phil Mac Giolla Bhain and Paul McConville. Tickets available at the door, we get underway at 8pm. See you there.

If you have not been to Celtic Park since the last home game, be prepared for pandemonium around London Road on Saturday. No one will be able to walk or drive from London Road up Kerrydale Street to the Park. Check out the open routes here and get there early.

  1. I think we are all due Sevco a very big apology.

I mean, on this site and many others like it they have been accused of failing to show charity. How unfair is that?

Ever since the Sevco fiasco started they’ve been most charitable indeed.

Admittedly mostly to themselves, to their poverty stricken players and to the steady stream of Executives who obviously have difficulty holding down a job.

Even today when the fat piggy-bank is looking a tad anorexic, they offer many 1000s to a poor guy from Dumfries who’s been down on his luck recently.

As they say, charity begins at home.

    Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my concern at the recent actions of Amsterdam Police officers in relation to their policing of the Ajax v Celtic match.

The supporters of Celtic FC have developed a well-deserved reputation as one of the best in the world. Year-after-year police and municipal authorities comment on their exemplary behaviour and good nature.

This could and should have been repeated most recently in Amsterdam. The behaviour of Ajax fans in the centre of Glasgow and still more so at Celtic Park was a matter of great concern among many celtic fans travelling to the return match. This concern was heightened on the eve of the match by the episode captured on CCTV footage which showed a clearly pre-planned attack by Ajax ultras on a bar where Celtic fans had been interviewed by local TV. The police presence and response to protect visitors to your city was noticeable only by its absence.

Roll forward 24 hours to events in Dam Square and more damning video is emerging by the day. Unprovoked attacks on Celtic fans brings shame on the Netherlands, whether initiated by an Ajax ultra or a plain clothes police officer. In truth it seems almost impossible to distinguish from from another.

As for your (horse) mounted officer who can be clearly seen trampling a woman to the ground for no apparent reason, this ‘hero’ should perhaps be taught this is requires more than simply a horse to act with ‘chivalry’. His colleagues in the dog team showed similar cheap ‘bravery’ with their German Shepherds and batons.

I look forward to hearing what actions Dutch authorities intend to take to investigate the actions of individual officers and the apparent lack of an effective strategy to ensure the safety of foreign visitors in the face of attacks by local football hooligans.

    Yours sincerely,

  3. Re David Forde, I saw him play League of Ireland a few years ago, he was a decent keeper but I didn’t see anything special about him. He is originally from Galway and played for the local team Galway United. He then went over and played cross channel but came back (on loan, I think) and played for Derry City before going back to England. At best you could describe his career as journeyman but suddenly he came to prominence when he was called into the Irish National Squad. His International performances have been little short of sensational, he has really looked a class player. I certainly would see him as an excellent back up Keeper, at his age maybe thats what Lenny has in mind.

They are a joy to watch sometimes. Always admired Rossi and its good to see somebody recover after a horrible break (still scarred from Lyon)

I think Fiorentina will finish above Milan this year. In fact I doubt they will get in the CL next season above Napoli, Roma, Juve, Fiorentina, Inter and even Lazio.

  6. From hunmedia….

After coming under the the dubious scrutiny of HMRC, and Lloyds starting to get nasty, a new owner was found. This, we hoped, would see us over the Lloyds period, and allow us to fight off HMRC- a case whic we latterly won.

However, rather than being the saviour delivering us from the evils of Lloyds and HMRC, he turned out to be far worse. Has there ever been a worse football Club owner? Could there ever be a worse one?

After all the coincidences of HMRC going after us so doggedly after agreeing to write down Arsenal’s £300m debt to £10m, ignoring other larger cases and certain clubs suddenly stopping the use of EBTs just as it is agreed that a former cabinet minister joined them, whilst Lloyds started demanding harsh repayment terms, I just feel that Whyte’s involvement and conduct is too much of a coincidence.

Was he hand-picked and financially induced by some wealthy and perhaps hateful individuals with an agenda? I really can’t see any other possible owner fouling up so spectacularly. I don’t even see how it was in his interest to try to publicly defraud the company, risking both liberty and any financial gain. He had a viable asset which he could have sold for far more than the £1 he allegedly paid. He could have taken any one of a number of decisions, including selling off shares, selling players to clear the debt, selling the whole Club instantly or even entering Administration before he started to withhold taxes?

His actions make no sense, unless he too wanted to harm the Club. Does anyone else share my suspicions, or do you feel he is a fool who merely got out of his depth? Was he a pawn or merely an egotistical buffoon?

  9. Thanks angelgabriel. I will be watching the blog to see where the usual suspects are gathering. However one thing for certain, I’m not staying dining till 45 mins before the game and making a mad dash out to Celtic Park this time. I plan to eat early meet the grey Brigade in some watering hole and when they retire to dine, I’ll head out to the lounges in Celtic Park.

  10. Corkcelt…good for you! Let’s hope the Bhoys score 3 in the first half hour and keep the blood pressure stable…

  11. From the LSE discussion blog on RFC shares:

” Another possible source of the sold shares is the Easdales. I’ve never really worked out what they are getting from this other than a contract to bus the team around. We don’t know what they paid for green’s shares, but they might have decided enough is enough”.

Have to challenge your memory of the bucket collections during our sit in.

I was at ibrokes….standing on broomloan rd…. collecting.

Almost lost it when one fudd threw a beer can in the bucket along with all the ” get a job” shouts. From memory that night we collected under £100.

A week or so later we went to celtic park when we played them…. the huns from worwork collected at their end .. we at ours. Ours was about 10 times their collection.

    Even clarence was embarrassed

  17. Acgr,

Fine mate, need to hit my sack now. Hope all is well with your good self.

  18. Is there any proof about the Arsenal accusation made by the Huns?

Also, its funny how many of the huns want to pretend that the wee tax case never happened.

  19. Good news for corkcelt.

jamesgang, good letter here is my more amateur effort sent by e-mail earlier:

Dear Sir or Madam, with reference the above order enacted on 7 November prior to the Ajax versus Celtic Champions League match, I would like to protest in the strongest possible terms about the conduct of the Dutch police and especially the plain-clothes officers and the uniformed dog-handlers who can bee seen on many videos and photographs acting in a way that would not have been out of place in Soweto in the 1960’s.

Did the Afrikaners from the South African force transfer back to their old homeland when Apartheid ended?

I have travelled the world and have witnessed police brutality in many countries from the Deep South of the USA during segregation, Salazar’s Portuguese African colonies through to Communist China at the height of the Cultural Revolution in 1967 and your Eberhard Van der Laan, Mayor of Amsterdam, has put his thugs masquerading as police officers right up there with the worst of them.

The actions of the Amsterdam police force and the conduct of the Ajax supporters visiting Glasgow bring shame on your country.

    Yours sincerely,

    ##############

I think it is a good thing that we all protest in our own terms. H.H.

unable to join the grey brigade for a pre match meal.

    Have a nice one.Hope your team wins.HH

The pride of holding a bucket (to somebody’s nose :-)), to assist a brother or sister less fortunate than ourselves or down on their luck, cannot be underestimated.

  26. Complaint made to Radio Clyde about their coverage of all things Sevco. All day yesterday every news bulletin had the “good news” about the new CEO. Today SPFL looking to get back £250k was relegated to the sports desk. Contrast with the Amsterdam story and all Celtic fans are guilty. No impartial view taken. This story featured as the number 1 story the other week before the second headline of job losses in the shipyards.
