Some perspective first. Ronny Deila, manager of Norwegian champions Stromsgodset, is not about to be appointed Celtic manager. He does, meet the criteria, unlike the various one-season wonders cast aside from the English Premier League. I believe there are two other strong candidates, Ronny has no pre-eminence at this stage, but unlike the various ‘favourites’ who have appeared in recent times, at least he is a genuine possibility.
Stefan Johansen worked under Ronny immediately before joining Celtic, which gave club scouts an insight into the coach’s style of play. Stromsgodset are predominantly an attacking team, who press high up the field and pass quickly.
His players are dedicated athletes or they don’t remain his players for very long. He is also one of the game’s intellectuals, a former teacher – and what I’ve been asking for since Neil resigned – a student of the game. His attitude to his own role is one of continual professional development.
Ronny has a track record of improving players and improving teams. He is not a brand name, nor a shareholder’s whim. He is not being considered because he’s ‘pals with Peter and out of a job’.
Please bear in mind………..
Ronny Deila is only one of three genuine contenders Celtic are considering at the moment but all three match the same criteria. They are intelligent, technically adept, progressive, winners. Which has made me more excited than any of the names suggested so far.

Can I ask why?
Do you think its only tims who have all the knowledge and expertise in football?
The best abilities to coach and organise playing squads?
If your a tim you are more likely to get better performances and results?
No tim has conquered the footballing world for a very long time, so Im not sure why this makes them an automatic candidate to do so within management..
I think we need to expand our horizons.
Its not a bad thing and certainly no shame in accepting you dont have all the answers from within and look beyond.
p.s. Im of the opinion to expand our horizons for the managerial position – but keep a tim in there as his assistant for all the same reasons as yours!!

Bend it like Beckett?
———————————————————–
:-) From Wiki….
Waiting for Godot (/ˈɡɒdoʊ/ GOD-oh[1]) is an absurdist play by Samuel Beckett, in which two characters, Vladimir and Estragon, wait endlessly and in vain for the arrival
of someone named Godot.[2]
Sound familiar?! :-)))

just so that i understand this, how many trophies has the awesome ronie won in the mighty norwegian league in either 6 or 8 years as a coach depending on how you want to word it?
Eyes wide open..
my reasoning is not purely sentimental. I believe J Kennedy is doing a fine job with the youth, this job may be too soon for him at only 30 but at this time we have leeway to bed him in. Obv the CL is our priority so his inexperience may go against him. But what CL experience has this Ronny character got in the CL. Promotion through the Liverpool boot room did wonders for them for years.

I think that sounds quite plausible. Perhaps Keane approached DD who, as a friend offered him an interview.
It does seem bizarre he was a candidate considering our club’s policy. I wonder about Martin O’Neill’s role in all of this. Paul yesterday alluded to some mischeviousness on his part by blabbing in the press conference. Perhaps he still has issues with some on our board. Either way it’s a relief Keane won’t be our manager.
………………………………………………….
Don’t know if this is correct about RK having issues with the board but he is friendly with John Keane (no relative) and his family and I know for a fact that he was a regular visitor to Edinburgh since the late 1990s.
He would stay with John Snr or Mark Keane and he, Mark and Roy would often go out in Edinburgh so he was no stranger to Edinburgh and no enemy of the boards.
folks saying this guy ticks all the boxes
i wonder if there were any boxes saying
experienced manager
domestic success
CL success
probably not

——————————————————————–
Ah! Sorry mate – I thought you meant RK in particular.
I’m reading you as saying that the mindset of the support has changed over the years. Where as previously they would have wanted a “name”, now they are looking at the record (or potential) of the individual. You could well be right. And you could well be right about the reasons for this – the rise of online/social media as the source for our information. In the past of course, everything would have been seen through the prism of print media. Or through a (pint!) glass, darkly you might say! So the candidates being touted would have been selected by the papers for us. There have of course been a few examples over the years of where the papers have got it spectacularly wrong. So perhaps that has contributed to the change in mindset. An interesting set of observations.
Stromsgodset chairman Tom Saxegaard sounds to me like a man with money on his mind:
“We are going to play in the Champions League and obviously we want to keep him. He’s our manager and is under contract with us for two-and-a-half- years. We really think he can get to the very top.”

How many trophies have any of the candidates linked so far won as managers?
Geordie Munro @ 14:03
TinyTim @1345
Paul said somert like “fans thoughts on Keane has trickled back to the board ”
Within 5 mins the line was twisted and decontexted.
————————————————————–
Geordie – ‘decontexted’ – a word that may get you the scrabble points but sounds and looks too ugly for the aesthetic and literary haven that is CQN!
For what it’s worth I had ‘contexted’ in the same way as TT ref ‘fan glower’ getting back to PL/DD. I think many probably did though we were sceptical about it!

He ticks the 1st two. 9 years as a coach in total with 6 as manager is fairly experienced. He has had domestic success. He has as much CL managerial experience as any manager we’ve had in the last generation had when they started.

Hangelaand available. Good solid centre back. If the wages were right I would take him.

This latest news about the search for a new manager is quite reassuring.
Although I’m still bracing myself for potential disappointment in the CL qualifiers, I do feel a bit more optimistic about our immediate future now.
In the grand scheme of things CQN is a small blog, influential but small.
CQN was against Keane as the new manager, as were all the other much larger blogs, and CQN seems to be in favour of RD as are most of the larger blogs.
We may well be going down the DoF route, John Park for DoF, Houston as scout ?
Make it happen Pedro.

He has won his league with little money.
He has been coaching-managing for 9 years.
2 out of 3 is a decent return me thinks.

do you call 1 title in 6 years domestic success
tell that to john barnes and liam brady and tony mowbray
i think the candidates mentioned so far (none of which are excellent btw) have all won promotion from the english championship which in my opinion (for what its worth) is at least as good as a single norwegian title
The quality of norwegian fitba sure seems to have escalated to world class in a couple of hours since this guy has been linked to us
