Some background on Ronny Deila

1408

Some perspective first.  Ronny Deila, manager of Norwegian champions Stromsgodset, is not about to be appointed Celtic manager.  He does, meet the criteria, unlike the various one-season wonders cast aside from the English Premier League.  I believe there are two other strong candidates, Ronny has no pre-eminence at this stage, but unlike the various ‘favourites’ who have appeared in recent times, at least he is a genuine possibility.

Stefan Johansen worked under Ronny immediately before joining Celtic, which gave club scouts an insight into the coach’s style of play.  Stromsgodset are predominantly an attacking team, who press high up the field and pass quickly.

His players are dedicated athletes or they don’t remain his players for very long.  He is also one of the game’s intellectuals, a former teacher – and what I’ve been asking for since Neil resigned – a student of the game.  His attitude to his own role is one of continual professional development.

Ronny has a track record of improving players and improving teams.  He is not a brand name, nor a shareholder’s whim.  He is not being considered because he’s ‘pals with Peter and out of a job’.

Please bear in mind………..

Ronny Deila is only one of three genuine contenders Celtic are considering at the moment but all three match the same criteria.  They are intelligent, technically adept, progressive, winners.  Which has made me more excited than any of the names suggested so far.

Deila obviously doesn’t float your boat. Who do you want as the new manager/head coach?

  2. Looks a lot like Che Guevara on

I think it is absolutely shocking that we have made it known that we are interested in an up and coming young manager who seems to be a student of the game and, who should he accept the position, will no doubt command a substantial buy out clause when he eventually leaves Celtic in the future for an English PL team having delivered a sound base and on field success.I remember he once put a black wig on and went onto the pitch at half time at Carrow Road to chastise the fans for not supporting the team.

And I cant believe we’ve missed out on Kenny Miller

No bad will come of these things, mark my words……………

When I saw Ronny Deila’s name I thought to myself, A-ha, here we have a winner. A man who’ll stand and say, Take On Me. We’ve been Hunting High and Low to find a man who’ll scare The Living Daylights out of the opposition. Hopefully we won’t be left Crying in the Rain. I understand PL’s Train of Thought, we must Stay on These Roads because after the I’ve Been Losing You feeling we had with Lenny we have to realize There’s Never a Forever Thing.

There is nothing more enjoyable watch your own talent fullfilling there potential.sadly i think we have not been there for our youngsters, there seems to be something missing or lacking in them.latest is j forrest.when he first appeared we had lots of hope..now some of us are divided in opinion of him.this has happenened to often and for many years.

As much i would like jk to move up i think right now we need a coach with the talent to promote players to becoming top players for the club.rommy might not b that man but i think jk needs to learn for little while longer…ps if jk did get the gig i would still back him to the end

It’s not so long ago you were advising that we snap up a certain Stale Solbakken (amongst other candidates tbf) and we all know what happened to him! Is Ronny any different? If anything, he has less European experience but smaller budgets to balance it out.

I’m really not sure about him. I’ll give anyone who gets the job a chance but I’m glad it’s not my decision to appoint the next manager/head coach.

I do like what I’ve read so far about him. I think he will get us playing a higher tempo and above all get the players sharper. Euro football success is achieved through what is done off the ball, and I think most of our squad have become lazy playing in the SPL. NL failed to build a new style despite being given an amazing opportunity. This guy could get us moving in a better direction. Thanks to PL for the recruitment strategy at play here.

Stromsgodset who Ronnie Deila is the manager of are a very small club in Norway and what he has done since he took over in 2008 is a progresseive thing :

2010 – won the Norwegian Cup

2012 – Came second in League

    2013 – Won the league

2014 – Second at the moment challenging for top spot again

Ronnie has taken a team maybe the equivalent of a St.Johnstone with an average gate of a few thousand to challenging the likes of Rosenborg for last 3 years and he is widely known as being the best young coach in Norway

How many trophies had any managers that have recently managed Celtic successfully won as managers prior to getting the job with us?

Neil Lennon had absolutely zero experience as a 1st team manager befire getting our caretaker role.

Gordon Strachan had won zero trophies and had a 34% win rate over Coventry and Southampton careers.

Tony Mowbray had won the Championship with WBA, and got to the FA cup semi.

MON had two League Cups with Leicester and won the Conference with Wycombe.

Who’s your preferred target? If you say Henrik Larsson all your arguments are blown out of the water.

  25. Eyes Wide Open on

For the record I was not advocating Deila as our preferred choice.

I am just delighted to think (in a Tesco type job interview scenario) that there are 5 guys who have made it down to the last interview sitting in a room, all 5 being professors of the modern game, fast, pace, free flowing.

Rather than what I thought we were going to do, with the 5 guys being Keane, Mackay, Coyle, McNamara, Clarke – all who would continue the mantra of the present day football (ie boring – possibly less so with Clarke).

  26. For those of you who want to know if Paul (or his dastardly minions who jump at PL’s beck and call) implied it or whether you just inferred it, here is his full quote:-

“Reports out of Ireland that Roy Keane is no longer in the running for the Celtic job are correct. The former Sunderland and Ipswich boss asked not to be considered as Celtic have tightened their shortlist over the past few days.

The overwhelming majority of opinion on the blog and elsewhere is that Celtic would be taking an enormous risk with Roy Keane, feedback which I know has reached the club. These decision are all risky, and there are no guarantees we will be able to do better than Roy, but I’d be prepared to take that risk.”

My own take, having read it carefully again, is that it tells you that the Board(“club”) are aware of the majority fan sentiment about Roy Keane’s potential employment as manager. Nowhere does it say that this was factored into their decision or that it was a judgement they disagreed with. It is very easy to re-write the post, with minimal changes, to state clearly that the Celtic Board heard the fans, listened to them and acted accordingly.

    It does not say that.

So did Paul tell you this or did it merely suit your existing position to infer it?
