Some background on Ronny Deila

1408

Some perspective first.  Ronny Deila, manager of Norwegian champions Stromsgodset, is not about to be appointed Celtic manager.  He does, meet the criteria, unlike the various one-season wonders cast aside from the English Premier League.  I believe there are two other strong candidates, Ronny has no pre-eminence at this stage, but unlike the various ‘favourites’ who have appeared in recent times, at least he is a genuine possibility.

Stefan Johansen worked under Ronny immediately before joining Celtic, which gave club scouts an insight into the coach’s style of play.  Stromsgodset are predominantly an attacking team, who press high up the field and pass quickly.

His players are dedicated athletes or they don’t remain his players for very long.  He is also one of the game’s intellectuals, a former teacher – and what I’ve been asking for since Neil resigned – a student of the game.  His attitude to his own role is one of continual professional development.

Ronny has a track record of improving players and improving teams.  He is not a brand name, nor a shareholder’s whim.  He is not being considered because he’s ‘pals with Peter and out of a job’.

Please bear in mind………..

Ronny Deila is only one of three genuine contenders Celtic are considering at the moment but all three match the same criteria.  They are intelligent, technically adept, progressive, winners.  Which has made me more excited than any of the names suggested so far.

Just on and saw your post about Paul’s article the other day and the variation in interpretation that posters have taken from it.

When teaching children how to identify inferential questions and subsequently how to apply this understanding to drawing inference themselves, we guide them in using a number of different strategies.

These are applied before, during and after reading and include; make inferences and draw your own conclusions, draw upon prior knowledge and recognize the effects of one’s own point of view in formulating interpretations of texts.

Theoretically, your idea that an individual can interpret meaning from a piece of text based on preconceived ideas/opinions is sound.

However, of equal value is the factor that prior knowledge, often based on experience, can lead to an individual’s interpretation.

I tend to go with the latter.

Along with some others I took Paul’s article to mean that the views of Celtic supporters, and possibly CQN posters specifically, had led to the board having a change of heart over Keane.

I implied that there was a difference in meaning between imply and infer a couple of weeks ago and Ernie pulled me up implying (I think) that infer and imply were interchangable! Hi Daniel – nice to hear from you!

I’m surprised that Celtic have approached Ronny Deila, even though several clubs outside of Norway have been made aware of him these past years.

He’s a young manager, who won the Norwegian league with Stromsgodset last season, something they had not done in close to fifty years. He was manys favorite to be the new head coach of the national team, but pulled himself out of the race saying he wanted to continue coaching club football, and also try to get Stromsgodset in the Champions League.

He does not have any coaching experience outside Norway, which is why I’m surprised that Celtic would seriously consider him. But he’s a popular coach, great with players and has brought up many young lads and new talents in Norwegian football. He of course is also the man who sold you Stefan Johansen after last season.

It’s very funny that this has come up today because Deila is actually in my hometown Tromso today, as they take on Championship side Tromsdalen in the cup this afternoon. I am of course headed to the match, and it will be interesting to see if these talks with Celtic have taken his mind of the game. If so, we’re looking at a serious upset in the cup!

I am well, thank you. Not married yet (been close a few times!), but living with a lovely girl. I’m no longer together with Torunn, who you met when I was living in York, but there is another dog involved now – and he’s quite a moose too!

If the new manager is ever asked about the bootleg rangers all he has to say is they are not relevant to Celtic as they are unlikely to meet since Celtic are in the Champions League and they are in the Ramsdens Cup.

With any manager you take a chance. In my opinion Keane was a very expensive chance. If you are taking a punt a cheap option is better than an expensive one. We should not spend too much on manager recruitment. I think TBB done a great job on showing just what Mowbray cost the club. Not only in compensation in transfers but also putting us backwards with player acquisition and his training methods that didn’t seem to work. I like the sound of a strict manager who trains a team who play fast attacking football with players who are athletes. That sounds like the Celtic way of playing the game.
