Some background on Ronny Deila

1408

Some perspective first.  Ronny Deila, manager of Norwegian champions Stromsgodset, is not about to be appointed Celtic manager.  He does, meet the criteria, unlike the various one-season wonders cast aside from the English Premier League.  I believe there are two other strong candidates, Ronny has no pre-eminence at this stage, but unlike the various ‘favourites’ who have appeared in recent times, at least he is a genuine possibility.

Stefan Johansen worked under Ronny immediately before joining Celtic, which gave club scouts an insight into the coach’s style of play.  Stromsgodset are predominantly an attacking team, who press high up the field and pass quickly.

His players are dedicated athletes or they don’t remain his players for very long.  He is also one of the game’s intellectuals, a former teacher – and what I’ve been asking for since Neil resigned – a student of the game.  His attitude to his own role is one of continual professional development.

Ronny has a track record of improving players and improving teams.  He is not a brand name, nor a shareholder’s whim.  He is not being considered because he’s ‘pals with Peter and out of a job’.

Please bear in mind………..

Ronny Deila is only one of three genuine contenders Celtic are considering at the moment but all three match the same criteria.  They are intelligent, technically adept, progressive, winners.  Which has made me more excited than any of the names suggested so far.

    Eyes wide open,

I’m not getting excited. Pride before a fall an aw that. But something you said jogged my memory.

When Mr Johansson finally got some game time, a good few guys sitting around me all made a similar observation … SJ Almost always ran into a space after making a pass. Sometimes the new place was less than 10 yards away but he never once made a pass and Sat back waiting on the applause.

A Luton fan who knows nothing is slagging off my team, I have no argument until Paul ahem….. Peter Lawell finds is another unproven coach

Don’t know about you guys but as things stand we are being laughed at? What happened to the forward planning? Frankly Lawelll looks stupid.. I have Luton supporters taking the p*** really…………….

    sad

You can only forward plan when you have a fair idea of what the future will be.

In this particular case NL appears for whatever reason, and it is arguable that as plc shareholders we are entitled to know, to have upped sticks and left in a hurry.

    Is this the same guy………………..

    From the Evening Times

Deila’s style has seen him compared favourably to Borussia Dortmund coach, Juergen Klopp, who he has gone to Germany to meet and to study.

He has also visited Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool in his quest to increase his coaching knowledge.

With his stock so high, it would be considered a major coup if Celtic succeed in landing Deila.

    From the Daily Record

The Scottish champions had been hoping to land a box-office name in a bid to boost season-ticket sales.

But they have already seen moves form Parkhead icon Henrik Larsson and former Manchester United skipper Roy Keane falter.

The lack of competition with Rangers currently languishing in the lower leagues and the relative lack of financial clout compared to clubs in England has made their attempts to lure a big name to Glasgow’s east end a tricky task.

However, it now appears they are ready to risk appointing another inexperienced coach, just as they did when Lennon was handed the manager’s role back in 2010.

Deila was appointed to his current job in 2008 after formerly working as both a player and coach at Stromsgodset.

  10. Seen this on twitter says it all

Don’t like Deila. Not because he’s no good, but as a Celtic supporter I feel it’s my duty to complain about everyone linked with the job

After years and years of dealing with the stupidity and arrogance of the dead and the continued banality of their alter ego, I thought that dealing with Luton fans would be child’s play in comparison, get stuck right into them, they were playing against Braintree Town and Kidderminster Harriers in the season just finished.

I feel your pain – While debating Roy Keane with an Ulsterman Liverpool supporter I got – a rhesus monkey could do the Job.

Now of course Celtic/PL are going to manage expectations – and for me we’ve had far too many project players without making it a habit with coaches and managers – but it is a difficult appointment.

I’m going to judge on who we appoint as head coach as a mark of intent.

And what they achieve as a matter of fact.

For me this is a huge decision for PL.

    Hail Hail

  26. Wikipedia starts their wee piece about Ronny with this sentence…

“Ronny Deila (born 21 September 1975) is a Norwegian former footballer and soon to be Hunskelper who has been the coach for Strømsgodset since the 2008 season.[1]”

Wonder why they won’t accept Wikipedia as a source in yoonie?
