Some consistency from Uefa, please

819

Of all the supporter-related offenses Uefa are disciplining football clubs on at the moment the use of lasers annoys me most (with the appropriate caveat for health and safety matters).

Racism, health and safety violations, violence flares are all appropriate reasons to sanction a club but it’s always bothered me that Uefa seem to let the continental fashion for shining powerful lasers into the faces of opposing players and managers was not tackled appropriately.

I was, therefore, pleased to hear Uefa disciplined Olympiacos for, among a rich litany of offenses, their fans pointing a laser at Anderlecht players during their recent Champions League game.  The Greek club have been ordered to close the more colourful part of their stadium for their last 16 game against Manchester United.

It will surprise few of us that despite the Greeks being sanctioned for using lasers, Milan have gone unpunished, despite their fans pointing lasers at Celtic players during our recent drubbing.

These games are supervised and televised from multiple angles.  If the use of lasers attracts a punishment, and it should, the rules must apply without fear or favour.

Everyone who asked to book a ticket or table for the CQteN St Patrick’s Day Party should have received an email regarding payment in the last day.  If you have not received an email, get in touch right away (CQNbooks@gmail.com) to ensure your booking is confirmed.

The Mary’s Meals website has a lot of information on how to donate; although I don’t think it mentions the CQN fund raising specifically.

  5. Morning all. Beginning to brighten up down here. Still fairly wild and wet.

I think Alex Thompson, for all that he is a good journalist, doesn’t really understand Scotland. There are too many folk in the corridors of power who happily condone the likes of Limond. Look at yon MP, Brian Donohue, who is a shareholder in Govan. Shouldn’t be have been shouting from the rooftops about the likes of Limond, quite possibly a constituent? Naw. Doesn’t work like that in Scotland, Alex, I’m afraid.

  6. pcs- That’s the point that Tommo’s making- the likes of Donohue and Murphy and Salmond, Sturgeon, McAskill, Lamont, Davidson, BBC, STV, SFA, Police Scotland etc. etc. all turn a deaf ear to this outrageous and totally illegal behaviour.

  7. To be honest when people like STV,BBC,SFA,SMSM,RIFC,SPFL, SPA,SNP, came into our life’s , Thommo was a god send, and all of the above know it, and do not like it, IMO.

There are only two acknowledged sons in the ole ‘ Sons of Strewth’.

It’s another example of how relatively small numbers of supporters can wield huge influence out of all proportion to their membership, through clever manipulation of the old and new media.

Were you aware of Limond’s show before this came to light? I wasn’t, and if I wasn’t there’s no reason why any others should be.

I’ve about as much respect for Police Scotland as the rest on here, but when they did receive a complaint about the show, they acted upon it. I’m sure if any of those people mentioned were questioned about it, they would also condemn it.

I accept that the source of this complaint may have seen it treated more seriously than one from the likes of you and I but who knows? Are the complaints being made?

  11. Just in to say…..

I know that I’m in a minority on here but, hey…why change the format of a lifetime ? :)

Anyway….just been reading back and, well, awe this hun-stuff joost dizny dae it for me.

Ye see, I think that the huns, will, by hook or by crook…appear back in the same league as Celtic just in the same way that a, big Bengal Tiger appearing on yer living room carpet

    would be greeted.

The dreamers who think that the huns will be – exterminated – persona non grata – really need to get a grip. imo

Fholk think that ‘anything’ is a possibility for the huns now as they have, died but, sumdy forgot to hammer in the stake ? A wee bit careless ? Aye.

Ye see, if anything….since the huns died…it’s Celtic who’ve gone back the way. imo

Crowds teetering just above 20k ?

The Green Brigade being stitched-up before yer eyes ?

Put oot the League Cup by Morton ?

Skelped up n doon the CL ?

A new batch of players being brought in who don’t seem to fit into the right ‘holes’ ?

Or, is it a case for fholk like me – eternal critics of Celtic ‘boreds’ – to change tac and, maybe consider that – the ‘bored’ actually ‘DO’ supply the tools – it’s joost that, the right machine operatives urny in the dug-oot ? Hmmmm?

I don’t care about their hate, I have no control over their hate, their hate is a product of their soul, I am the captain of my soul, nobody else has a say in my soul.

My soul does not want to hate and to perpetuate hate, my heart wants harmony, my head wants equality (for all, huns, and fenians, included too) my life is going to run out and I’ll be gone, and still 1916 and 1690 will haunt every west of Scotland shadow, though the dates so prominent have no real relevance to the west of Scotland.

Spouting those dates in mantra won’t feed, nor educate your children.

    That’s what I think.

I don’t hate the huns… never have… never will… they are as human as I am.

I hate the so called humans who exploit our differences and make coin from hate and Glasgow pavements painted with coloured human blood.

  14. So … the excitement of their AGM is over. To be fair, most of us get to enjoy one every year so you can see why they get excited when one occasionally comes along. And it was a historic event too: the first AGM of the new club. Don;t think anything decided will make a blind bit of difference though …

Who’s it for tomorrow then? Let’s get the home goalscoring form closer to our away run. Pukki for the first goal?

Having read the latest Alex Thomson blog on Sectarianism in Scotland, I was prompted to discuss it with work colleagues.

My section is made up of seven men aged 43 to 63, one Church of Scotland, one C of E, one Muslim and four RC’s.

The muslim spoke of no religious or racial discrimination towards him in this country, but he did encounter some in Sheffield. The four RC’s includibg myself, each told stories of baiting, victimisation, job application knock backs and even threats of violence. These took place in Weirs, Rolls Royce EK and Hillington, and an East end Carpet factory which didnt employ Catholics in its engineering section until the 1970’s.

The C of E and C of S guys remained silent througout the hour long story swap.

  16. PFayr:

there is an insidious sectarian agenda against a minority in Scotland by the establishment in Scotland. The disgrace, the shame, is not that they are wicked, for that they are, and for that they will answer to a court without an endiburgh jury; is not that we let them get away with it, the disgrace, the shame, is that every first world country, every second world country, every third world country, every single one of them, including the Vatican, every single one of them just is not interested in the persecution of a demographic with a perceived religion.

    Sorry about your darts bets.

IMO online sites are a total scam. I have been really stitched up by them twice recently.

Think all the big names with gaming sites come under the one umbrella with their base being

Gibraltar. If you complain then you are directed to the Gambling Commission in Gibraltar. What a farce! Their rep always backs up the big guns. I have sent my complaints to IBAS………supposed to intervene in betting disputes, but not heard a scratch. About as effective as Sevco in Europe. It’s a pity that these firms cannot be trusted to handle on line accounts. Message………..FORGET online accounts! If you Google a big bookie and add online account hacked, then you will get umpteen tales of woe from punters who have been cheated big time ! HH. Just have to go to the local shop, select 2 draws and 3 results at evens, giving you a nice a nice ton for £1 stake !

Let’s just say we weren’t all suspicious of the cops and their motives. How often have you been at a game and heard a chant but not been able to make out what was being said? So if I was being extremely generous I might give them the benefit of the doubt on that score.
